    LMS Students Student Portal Student Affairs Banner Online Services Blackboard LMS Student Email Residence Life Campuses Lorman Natchez Vicksburg News Events Calendars Marketing and Communication Publications Our website uses JavaScript to achieve certain sophisticated features visual cues and styles Please ensure that JavaScript is enabled when visiting our website for best results Help enabling JavaScript Skip to Page Content Announcements Home Announcements Item Health Physicist from the University of Utah visits Alcorn Health Physics Program Health Physicist from the University of Utah visits Alcorn Health Physics Program The Alcorn State University Health Physics HP Program in the Department of Advanced Technologies hosted Dr Masoud Beitollahi a health physicist in the Department of Radiological Health at the University of Utah March 24 26 He was welcomed by Department Chairperson Dr Kwabena Agyepong and senior faculty Dr Steve Adzanu The Director of Health Physics program Jermiah Billa gave Dr Beitollahi a tour of various laboratories operated in the Department The primary goal of this visit was for Beitollahi to meet students in the program with a focus on those enrolled in environmental radioactivity course during the spring semester The esteemed health physicist spent time sharing methodologies in environmental sampling sample preparations and measurement of the environmental samples He also presented classical standard methods for radon and thoron measurements active and passive procedures in air water and soil As part of their practical training the group used a specific instrument Alpha Guard provided by SAPHYMO Germany for the measurement of radon and thoron In addition Beitollahi trained students to conduct measurement of tritium in water samples including direct and enhancement methods using liquid scintillation counter Beitollahi also served as the guest speaker for the student branch of Health Physics Society HPS during their meeting He shared valuable information on educational and career opportunities

    Online Services Blackboard LMS Student Email Residence Life Campuses Lorman Natchez Vicksburg News Events Calendars Marketing and Communication Publications Our website uses JavaScript to achieve certain sophisticated features visual cues and styles Please ensure that JavaScript is enabled when visiting our website for best results Help enabling JavaScript Skip to Page Content Announcements Home Announcements Item Alcorn s Hall to serve as visiting faculty at Duke University Lorman Miss April 17 2014 Dr Stephen G Hall assistant professor in the Department of Social Sciences will serve as visiting faculty in the History Department at Duke University during 2014 15 academic year He will collaborate with professors in the department developing a new signature course Race A World History The fellowship is part of an initiative at Duke University called Humanities Writ Large that entails broadening humanistic space by connecting faculty with broader publics other academic institutions HBCUs and elite private colleges and students at Duke and beyond The fellowship also provides support for scholarly monographs which will allow Hall to work on his second book Global Visions African American Historians Engage the World 1885 1960 This is an excellent opportunity stated Hall about his upcoming fellowship It will allow me an opportunity to work on my second book manuscript interact with faculty and be active in the intellectual life of one of the premier institutions in the nation Dr Dickson Idusuyi interim chairperson of the Department of Social Sciences shared We are elated for Dr Hall to participate in this fellowship program He will make a great contribution to their History Department with his tenacity knowledge of history and experience in research and publications And it is our hope that upon his return to Alcorn Dr Hall will use his new experiences and knowledge to our students benefit Hall has

    uses JavaScript to achieve certain sophisticated features visual cues and styles Please ensure that JavaScript is enabled when visiting our website for best results Help enabling JavaScript Skip to Page Content Announcements Home Announcements Item Alcorn State welcomes Dr Powell Young as new Dean of Nursing Alcorn State welcomes Dr Powell Young as new Dean of Nursing After discussing the legacy of Alcorn State University and its School of Nursing with staff members former Epigeneticist and Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist Dr Yolanda Powell Young knew that Alcorn would be the perfect place to begin a new chapter in her life When I saw the research and academic vision for the School of Nursing I felt that I was well suited to lead the School of Nursing into the future said Powell Young Her progressive thinking and will to succeed led Alcorn s Nursing school to name her the new Dean of Nursing on the Natchez campus Powell Young has been in the nursing field for 21 years 12 of which has been dedicated to educating both practicing and aspiring nurses She has been an investigative member of funded research totaling more than 7 000 000 Powell Young completed her baccalaureate at Grambling State University and her master s at Northwestern State University She has a Ph D in research and has completed postdoctoral work in Clinical and Molecular Genetics at the University of Iowa Georgetown University and The National Institutes of Health Her most recent studies included a National Institute of Health funded project investigating the determinants of inflammation and effect of intervention among African American adolescent females with metabolic risk factors for diabetes and heart disease in Sudanese families When Powell Young thinks of Alcorn s successful track record it makes her proud to join such an esteemed team
