    to achieve certain sophisticated features visual cues and styles Please ensure that JavaScript is enabled when visiting our website for best results Help enabling JavaScript Skip to Page Content Directory Home Directory Faculty Staff Directory Faculty Staff Directory Profile Faculty Staff Directory Profile Mr Derek Horne Email Departments and Positions Leadership Intercollegiate Athletics Director Biography As the intercollegiate athletic director Derek Horne will provide administrative direction and oversight for Alcorn s 17 sport athletics program and activities and supervise the control and compliance with applicable National Collegiate Athletic Association NCAA Southwestern Athletic Conference SWAC and University rules and regulations governing all facets of intercollegiate athletics Prior to joining Alcorn Horne successfully led the Florida A M Rattler athletics program as director of athletics for three years after spending 15 years in athletic administration at the University of Mississippi He joined the staff of University of Mississippi in 1995 as assistant athletic director and was promoted to senior associate athletic director during that tenure During Horne s tenure FAMU athletics department experienced a number of successes The accomplishments were the 2012 MEAC Men and Women s Cross Country Championships 2010 and 2011 Top 10 in FCS Football Attendance and 2010 MEAC Football Tri Champions Also Horne negotiated the largest guaranteed football contract 900 000 for a Historically Black Colleges and Universities HBCU Horne solicited and secured one of the largest one time donations by an African American contributor to the University of Mississippi One of his most significant achievements was increasing the involvement of former student athletes and alumni in university and athletics related activities Horne also served as the liaison between the Ole Miss Department of Athletics and the Equal Opportunity department and was charged with overseeing human resources and staff development programming for the athletic department Horne was a
