  • Alcorn State University: Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards
    for student financial aid Students Seeking Subsequent Degree Students that have graduated andwish to seek another degree must complete a Subsequent Degree Certification of Hours Plan before financial aid eligibility can be determined Students must 1 COMPLETE all information on application 2 PRINT application 3 MEET with the Academic Advisor and 4 SUBMIT completed application to the Office of Student Financial Aid If approved students must be admitted into the subsequent degree program and are restricted to enroll in only courseslisted on the Subsequent Degree Certification of Hours Plan Students must maintain a minimum 2 0 undergraduate 3 0 graduate specialist Financial Aid GPA earn 67 of hours attempted at the end of the spring semester and not exceed 150 of hours required to complete the degree Students are required to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA Alcorn State University Financial Aid Application other required documents and review their loan status at www nslds ed gov SAP Review Process SAP will be reviewed at the end of the spring semester to determine if students met the GPA PACE and Maximum Time Frame standards If students fail to meet SAP after the spring status will change to Financial Aid Suspension There is no further action required if SAP standards are met Students will remain eligible for financial aid For those students that receive a Financial Aid Suspension status will be ineligible to receive financial aid Students who lose eligibility for federal state and institutional aid due to not meeting SAP requirements may submit a Satisfactory Academic Progression Appeal for Eligibility Application Unless academically dismissed students denied federal state and institutional aid may continue attending using other aid sources or by funding their education themselves It is students responsibility to monitor his or her academic progress and understand requirements to complete their degree according to SAP standards Financial Aid Suspension Financial Aid Suspension status is assigned to students whofail to make SAP at the end of the spring semester does not fulfill the requirements set forth according to his or her Academic Plan of Study or Subsequent Degree Certification of Hours Plan Students can reestablish SAP eligibility by choosing one of the following options Self Pay SAP Suspension does not prevent students from registering for classes However payment is the responsibility of students and must be made as required by university policy PrivateAssistance Students on SAP Suspension receive private assistance in the form of scholarship or private loan per the conditions of the individual donor or lender Appeal See the Appeal Process below Financial Aid Probation Financial Aid Probation status is assigned to students who fail to make SAP and who has successfully appealed and has had eligibility for financial aid reinstated Students who are placed on financial aid probation may receive financial aid for one subsequent semester term Students on Financial Aid Probation may be required to meet certain terms and conditions while on financial aid probation such as taking a reduced course load ortaking specific courses Students

    How to request a review of a decision by the Office of Student Financial Aid concerning your aid package Student Responsibilities Related to Financial Aid It is your responsibility to Read directions thoroughly complete all application forms accurately and to comply with any deadlines Provide any supplemental information or documentation required by the Office of Student Financial Aid or other agency as applicable Read understand and keep copies of any forms you are required to sign Repay any student loans you may receive Attend an entrance interview and an exit interview if you receive federal student loan while in attendance at Alcorn State University Notify the Office of Student Financial Aid of any change in your enrollment housing or financial aid status including any scholarships or grants received from outside sources Change of address and enrollment status must also be reported to your l lender if you have a loan Satisfactorily perform the work agreed upon in a Federal Work Study job Know and comply with all requirements for continuation of financial aid including satisfactory academic progress requirements Method of Disclosure Consumers Information notification will be sent via email and campus newsletters to all enrolled students All notification are sent with the approval of Marketing and Communications Availability of Employees for Information Dissemination Purposes The University is required to designate an employee or group of employees to assist enrolled or prospective students in obtaining all of the information specified below If the University has designated one person for an area of responsibility that person shall be available upon reasonable notice to any enrolled or prospective student throughout the normal administrative working hours listed If more than one person often an entire office is designated their combined work schedules have been arranged so that at least one of them is available upon reasonable notice throughout the normal administrative working hours listed Campus Police is available 24 hours 7 days a week Contact information for various are located at http www alcorn edu offices index aspx Additional Financial Aid Information Financial Aid Awards are contingent upon admission as a regular student and enrollment at the University A student may not be eligible for some types of financial aid if not admitted as a regular degree seeking student Students must reapply for financial aid each academic year Summer applications are available in the financial aid office or under Financial Aid Forms online if you plan to attend summer school Over Awards Financial aid recipients may not receive funds in excess of their financial need This occasionally occurs when students receive funds from other sources or agencies When over awards occur the Financial Aid Office is required to adjust student s financial aid award packages Students may be required to repay funds they are not eligible to receive Enrollment Status awards are calculated based on full time enrollment If a student will not register as full time please notify the Financial Aid Office immediately Federal Direct Loan recipients MUST be enrolled at least half

    Skip to Page Content Admissions Welcome Admissions Requirements First Year Experience FYE Graduate Studies Transfer Students International Students Scholarship Requirements Financial Aid Applying for Aid Constitution Day Financial Aid Updates Consumer Information Disclosures Forms Types of Financial Aid Federal Work Study TEACH Grant Federal Student Loans Tuition and Fees Scholarship Opportunities Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards Mandatory Attendance Verification Registration Guide Financial Aid Rights and Responsibilities Code of Conduct Official Unofficial Withdrawal Return of Title IV Funds R2T4 Policy Staff Directory Residence Life Bursar Registrar s Office MyAlcorn Campus Tours Home Admissions Financial Aid Code of Conduct Code of Conduct Alcorn State University participates in the William D Ford Federal Stafford Loan Program Loans offered through this program are the Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans for students the PLUS Loan for parents of dependent students and the Grad PLUS Loan for graduate students Alcorn State University has in addition to the federal loan program a private alternative loan program to which students may apply This program is through private banks and agencies and a student must apply directly to these entities for additional loan funding In compliance with the 2008 Higher Education Opportunity Act Alcorn State University has established a Code of Conduct by which all loan programs directly administered by the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships must adhere Alcorn State University as an institution or any individual officer employee or agent of Alcorn State University shall not enter into any revenue sharing arrangements with any lender No officer or employee of Alcorn State University who is employed in the financial aid office or who otherwise has responsibilities with respect to education loans or agent who has responsibilities with respect to education loans or any of their family members shall solicit or accept any gift from a lender guarantor or servicer of education loans For purposes of this prohibition the term gift means any gratuity favor discount entertainment hospitality loan or other item having a monetary value of more than a de minimus amount An officer or employee of Alcorn State University who is employed in the financial aid office or who otherwise has responsibilities with respect to education loans or an agent who has responsibilities with respect to education loans shall not accept from any lender or affiliate of any lender any fee payment or other financial benefit including the opportunity to purchase stock as compensation for any type of consulting arrangement or other contract to provide services to a lender or on behalf of a lender relating to education loans Alcorn State University does not have a preferred lender list PLL for alternative loans and therefore will not use a preferred lender list PLL to Require a prospective borrower to use a lender on a PLL Deny or otherwise impede a borrower s choice of lender Cause unnecessary certification delays for borrowers who use a lender that is not listed on a PLL Alcorn State University shall not request or accept from any lender any offer of

  • Alcorn State University: Official-Unofficial Withdrawal/Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4) Policy
    proportion to the amount of time in which they are enrolled A prorated schedule is used to determine the amount of federal student aid funds he she will have earned at the time of the withdrawal Once 60 of the semester is completed a student is considered to have earned all of his her financial aid and will not be required to return any funds Federal law requires schools to calculate how much federal financial aid a student has earned if that student completely withdraws or s tops attending before completing the semester or does not complete all courses which are not scheduled for the entire semester or payment period for which he she has registered at the time courses began Based on this calculation students who receive federal financial aid and do not complete their classes during a semester or term could be responsible for repaying a portion of the aid they received Students who do not begin attendance must repay all financial aid disbursed for the term Determination of the withdrawal date The withdrawal date used in the return calculation of a student s federal financial aid is the date indicated on the official drop form If a student stops attending classes without notifying ASU the withdrawal date will be the midpoint of the semester or the last date of academic activity determined by ASU Additional documentation supporting the last date of academic activity may be provided by the student if they verify a later date of attendance Withdrawing prior to completing 60 percent of a term Unless a student completes 60 percent of the term in which federal aid was disbursed the student will be required to return all or part of the financial aid disbursed in the term This applies to students who have officially including medical or unofficially withdrawn When a student fails to begin attendance If a student receives financial aid but never attends classes Office of Financial Aid OFA must return all disbursed funds to the respective federal and institutional aid programs Students who receive all failing grades at the end of the term Financial aid is awarded under the assumption that the student will attend for the entire term for which federal assistance was disbursed When the student has failed to earn a passing grade in at least one class for the term federal regulations require the school to determine whether the student established eligibility for funds disbursed by attending at least one class or participating in any ASU academic related activity If the school cannot verify that the student attended ASU all financial aid must be repaid to the federal and institutional programs The student s bursar account will be charged and the student will be responsible for any balance due If the student can prove to have participated in an ASU class or academic related activity past the 60 date the student will not be required to return any disbursed financial aid Students who are able to verify attendance beyond
