WORK 3 0 3 This is an introductory course dealing with a systematic survey of the historical development of Social Work from charity to definite principles and theories Special attention is given to the diverse functions processes and aspects of Social Work and work The course also includes an exploration into the types of resources and services which the community provides for the social welfare of its citizens SW 302 BASIC ISSUES IN MENTAL HEALTH 3 0 3 This course examines basic issues in the mental health service delivery system Emphasis is placed on client rights mental health laws goals of mental health systems and areas of specialization SW 319 HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND THE SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT I 3 0 3 This course provides the student with current research and knowledge of relationships among human biological social psychological and cultural systems as they affect or are affected by human interactions This course uses the person in environment focus as it explores relevant issues in life span development SW 320 HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND THE SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT II 3 0 3 This course is a continuation of SW 319 and focuses on Macro level theories Pre requisite SW 319 SW 346 SOCIAL WORK AND THE AGING 3 0 3 A systematic presentation of the field concerning the demographic health and cultural factors in aging This course will examine social adjustments of individuals in later stages of the life cycle including family and associational relationships the impact of aging in social economic and political structures of society and political measures to promote and support the health and well being of the senior citizen Pre requisite SW 230 or SY 235 SW 348 CHILD WELFARE 3 0 3 This course explores the history and current development in programs for meeting the needs of children and their families Careful attention is given to supportive supplemental and substitute child welfare programs Included among the topics explored are child abuse and neglect foster care and adoption institutional care income maintenance and children with disabilities Pre requisite SW 230 SY 235 or PH 132 consent of instructor for non majors SW 349 Child WELFARE WORKER AND THE COURT 3 0 3 This course focuses on child welfare practices and the legal court system It examines the roles and responsibilities of child protective services workers and provides a basis for understanding court processes most relevant to cases of child maltreatment This course will introduce students to the basic stages of the Child Protective Services CPS process and the steps necessary to accomplish each stage from intake to case closure This course will emphasize the vital role that the courts play in making decisions regarding the protection of children who have been maltreated Prerequisite SW 230 or SY 235 SW 351 METHODS OF SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE I 3 0 3 This course focuses on problem solving techniques and strategies in case work group work and community organization Special emphasis is on intervention skills essential for Social Work practice at the micro and mezzo levels Pre requisite SW 230 or for non majors consent of instructor SW 352 METHODS OF SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE II 3 0 3 This course is a continuation of SW 351 The emphasis is on Social Work practice at the mezzo and macro levels Pre requisite SW 351 SW 360 COMMUNITY SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE 3 0 3 Introduces students to basic knowledge and skills for stimulating and assisting communities to evaluate plan and coordinate its efforts to provide for its health welfare and recreational needs Special emphasis will be placed on the problem solving model for addressing community problems Prerequisite SW 230 or SY 235 SW 362 SKILLS IN INTERVIEWING 3 0 3 This course provides an overview of basic helping skills in facilitating client change in a multicultural context Major emphasis is placed on interviewing and counseling skills essential to developing relationships and facilitating change Prerequisite SW 230 and SW 351 SW 365 CULTURAL DIVERSITY THEORY AND PRACTICE 3 0 3 This course prepares students to understand and appreciate client cultural systems the nature of cultural identity group membership access to resources strategies to combat discrimination oppression and economic deprivation and to promote social and economic justice The focus of the course is to present human diversity and population at risk content for the academic curriculum at the undergraduate level of social work The course will examine a number of socio identities race ethnicity religion gender socio economic status sexual orientation abilities and age and the potential these identities may have on social work practice SW 367 DRUGS ALCOHOL AND SOCIETY 3 0 3 This course intends to explore in depth some aspects of the abuse and misuse of alcohol and the drugs in our society with special emphasis on prevention treatment and rehabilitation Prerequisite SW 230 or SY 235 SW 375 RESEARCH METHODS IN SOCIAL WORK 3 0 3 This course is designed to introduce students to Social Work values the research process problem formulation and conceptualization measurement research design and inference single subject design and practice evaluation sampling alternative data gathering techniques and analyses and uses of research in social work Prerequisite SW 230 or SY 235 SW 405 SOCIAL WELFARE POLICY AND SERVICES 3 0 3 This is a policy course which introduces students to basic problems of economic security and social welfare in

Sciences Military Sciences Scholarships Scholarships There are several types of scholarships and types of tuition assistance that you can receive as a cadet in the Braves Battalion There are Two Three and Four year ROTC Scholarships available that provide full tuition Additionally cadets will receive other monthly stipends that help offset the other costs Room and Board Scholarship are award per the Professor of Military Science discretion to those cadet who recieve full Army ROTC tuition scholarship or Tuition Assistance through the Army Reserve or Army National Guard Eligibility You must Be a U S citizen no dual citizenship Be at least 17 years old before the scholarship is effective Be under 31 years old on June 30 of the year you expect to graduate and receive your officer s commission Be a high school graduate or have equivalent credit Pursuing an academic major at a four year institution or at a junior college with the intention to transfer to a four year institution Agree to accept a commission as an officer in the Army Army Reserve or the Army National Guard Meet required physical standards Army ROTC Scholarships Each Army ROTC scholarship includes either full tuition plus 3 000 5 000 yearly depending on the year enrolled as well as 1200 a year for books allowances Stipends are paid bi monthly while you are in school and increase in value depending on Military Science level Campus Based Scholarships This is a competitive 2 years 3 years or 4 years scholarship awarded to incoming and current students who meet the above qualifications as well as having good academic standing This scholarship is open to first semester juniors or below to include high school seniors If you are sophomore who has just heard about ROTC and is interested in getting in on the action or a veteran who is interested in returning to the force as an officer The Two Year Campus Based Scholarship is for you You are eligible if you have two full years remaining in your undergrad or graduate degree and have at least a 2 5 GPA on a 4 0 scale in your previous college work You will attend the Leader s Training Course LTC a twenty eight day program at Ft Knox KY The purpose of the Leader s Training Course is to provide instruction in the basic leadership and technical skills that will prepare you for your junior and senior years of ROTC If you are a prior service veteran your previous military experience i e basic training qualifies you to enter without the first two years of ROTC or attending LTC With the Campus Based Scholarship cadets are eligible to compete for limited active duty officer positions in the US Army depending on your ranking based
