  • Artist Barbara Grossman Lectures at Chapel Art : Saint Anselm College
    Art November 09 2011 Barbara LeBlanc College Communications and Marketing 603 641 7241 Figurative painter Barbara Grossman a Fulbright scholar and a former faculty member of the Yale School of Art will offer a lecture entitled Seeing Through My Eyes Thursday Nov 10 at the Alva de Mars Megan Chapel Art Center She also will conduct critiques and group discussions of student works at Comiskey Art Center Friday Nov 11 from 9 a m to 1 30 p m Born in New York City Barbara Grossman became a painter and educator who studied at the Yale School of Music and Art and earned a BFA from Cooper Union in New York She has received numerous honors including a Fulbright grant and awards from the National Academy of Design which she has been a member of since 1994 She has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and Western Connecticut State University and was recently on the faculty of the Yale School of Art Her paintings and oil stick drawings deal with color and pattern illustrating the interplay of women with their interiors They make use of vibrant colors and dynamic spaces and are often said to be reminiscent of Henri Matisse

    drawings Main Content Christmas Drawings on Display at Chapel Art Center November 09 2011 Barbara LeBlanc College Communications and Marketing 603 641 7241 An exhibition of Christmas drawings and other religious works by Fr Iain MacLellan O S B will open with a reception Thursday Nov 10 at 6 p m at the Alva deMars Megan Chapel Art Center at Saint Anselm College The reception and the exhibit which runs through Saturday Dec 10 are free and open to the pubic The exhibition will display more than two decades of commissioned works by Fr Iain who is director of the Chapel Art Center Fr Iain started producing his distinctive Christmas watercolors for an annual Christmas card to be sent by Fr Jonathan DeFelice O S B president of Saint Anselm College Soon the Saint Anselm Abbey also commissioned Fr Iain a member of the abbey to create a Christmas card Fr Iain works year round to create the drawings that are eventually turned into the Christmas cards and which he calls meditations on the Christmas story Exhibition Hours GALLERY HOURS Tuesday Saturday 10 a m 4 p m Thursday 10 a m 7 p m EXHIBITION CLOSED Please note that

  • Biology Professor's Running Research in New York Times : Saint Anselm College
    in a New York Times Magazine article on Sunday Nov 6 for his research on the biomechanics of running Larson an evolutionary biologist is interested in how your foot strikes the ground when you run and what type of footwear if any is best for preventing running injuries It is a controversial topic among runners sports medicine practitioners and physiologists In the article The Once and Future Way to Run Christopher MacDougall author of the bestseller Born to Run describes Larson s work analyzing foot strike patterns among the shod the lightly shod and the unshod The professor set up his high speed camera at the recent New York City Barefoot Run which is the focus of MacDougall s article All of the runners were either barefoot or sporting five toed rubber foot gloves with no cushioning or arch support Most serious runners wear expensive highly cushioned shoes that force them to land on their heels causing an impact shock that is greater than if they landed on their forefoot or mid foot As described in the New York Times article Larson and others are researching the benefits of running barefoot or in super light minimalist shoes Larson also has

  • Fine Art Faculty Present Exhibit : Saint Anselm College
    On Nov 4 the Department of Fine Arts opens an Exhibition of Faculty Art Work with an opening reception at 5 p m at Launch Art Gallery in Peterborough N H The exhibition features a compilation of artwork photographs paintings sculptures and new media videos by ten faculty members The exhibition will continue until Nov 28 and can be viewed by appointment The faculty members include Kimberly Kersey Asbury Rachelle Beaudoin Megan Bogonovich Luke Buffenmyer Katherine Hoffman Elizabeth Holmes Margo Johnson Iain MacLellan O S B Elsa Voelcker and David Banach Each faculty member contributes a different artistic style ranging from abstract porcelain figures to oversized photography to even gelatin silver prints Asbury explains Our art has grown a lot and changed since our last exhibit which was in 2007 Kimberly Kersey Asbury co curated the event with Launch Art s owner Tim Donovan The move to an off campus site is a way to reach beyond our walls to the community says Asbury Peterborough is known as a hub of creativity and will attract the attention of local artists The faculty members are excited to share their art not only with the Saint Anselm community but the local community

  • Joyce C. (Hoyt) Clifford '59, trustee and nursing leader, dies at age 76 : Saint Anselm College
    received an honorary degree in 1989 Dr Clifford made many lasting contributions to the field of nursing earning several prestigious awards in her profession She was awarded the Living Legend in Massachusetts Nursing by the Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses in 2007 and was named a Living Legend by the American Academy of Nursing in 2005 In 2003 she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Organization of Nurse Executives She received the Saint Anselm College Alumni Award of Merit in 1987 After graduation from Saint Anselm College s nursing program Clifford earned a master s degree at the University of Alabama and a doctorate in health planning and policy analysis at the Heller School of Brandeis University She was senior vice president and nurse in chief at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston for more than 25 years after which she founded The Institute for Nursing Healthcare Leadership INHL She held appointments as a lecturer at Harvard Medical School and a visiting scholar at Boston College School of Nursing Dr Clifford was a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a former president of the American Organization of Nurse Executives She was a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Hospital Association from 1991 1994 and was the first nurse to be a member of the Harvard Medical School s Admissions Committee She was internationally known for developing a professional nursing practice model that is considered the benchmark for professionalism in nursing and that integrates scholarship and service in direct care promotes nursing practice development and improves patient care outcomes The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center website reports that funeral services are being arranged by Gormley Funeral Service in West Roxbury where a wake will be held Thursday Oct 27 from 3 to 8
