  • The Humanities: Conversatio : Saint Anselm College
    to take additional Humanities courses in their sophomore junior and senior years Through readings lectures seminars and a varied program of films concerts exhibitions and stage presentations the Humanities Program seeks to confront the student with questions of value moral choice and the real significance of human life Rooted in the Benedictine vow that encourages faithfulness to a way of life within community Co nv er sa t io is the foundational shared learning experience for every Saint Anselm student This year long interdisciplinary course provides students with an intellectual orientation to studies in the Liberal Arts and acquaints them with the distinctive value of those studies within the Catholic Benedictine intellectual tradition Conversatio I The Individual The Community The Divine Fall Course Description and Reading List In the first semester students consider the meaning of humanity in the world by reading and discussing seminal texts that contemplate who we are as individuals our responsibility within a community and our relationship with the divine Among fundamental intellectual ideas students are introduced to the Catholic Benedictine intellectual tradition through the spiritual teachings of Saints Benedict and Anselm Conversatio II Liberal Arts the Good Life Spring Course Description and Reading List The second semester concentrates on conceptions of the good life and the role that the liberal arts play in forming a fulfilling human life Students build upon ideas from the first semester as they consider three additional areas of study central to the Liberal Arts Politics rhetoric and the emergence of democracy in human history The nature of science and the role of scientific understanding in our world The nature of beauty and the place of art in the lives of individuals and communities As the common academic conversation orienting students to Saint Anselm College Conversatio invites individuals to discover their

    Dallas motorcade Like most Americans Sullivan was glued to his television set watching the tragedy unfold Forty three years later that motorcade would look very different to the man who was previously in charge of protecting the president As the 22nd director of the United States Secret Service Sullivan had an inside view of and a critical role in American history The appointment by President George W Bush capped a 30 year Secret Service career launched in the trenches of Detroit highlighted by several awards and guided by a commitment to public service that took shape in early childhood Sullivan transferred to Saint Anselm from the University of Massachusetts and completed an internship with the nearby Derry Police Department His first job was with the Federal Protective Service and soon moved on to the Inspector General s office at the Department of Housing and Urban Development After covering California Nevada Hawaii and Guam he was reassigned to the Boston office only to learn he had been selected by the Secret Service and was being stationed in Detroit Protecting the President Sullivan s call to the White House came in 1991 when he was assigned to protect George H W Bush His first presidential trip was back to New Hampshire for a campaign rally in the first in the nation primary state One year later he moved to the first lady s detail and following the 1992 election moved to President Bill Clinton s protection detail Kevin Flynn 82 a law enforcement professional and former special agent saw Sullivan s commitment attention to detail and leadership qualities early in his career I first met mark when our paths crossed in Detroit in 1984 during the presidential campaign After we got talking and I got to know him a little I knew

    Home Page Campus Life Residential Life and Dining Main Content Residential Life and Dining Saint Anselm residential students are guaranteed housing for all four years at Saint Anselm Nearly 90 percent of students live on campus Housing options range from traditional residence halls to suites townhouses and garden style apartments Dining Students can enroll in a Resident Meal Plan where they receive a sum of money that can be used at Davison Hall the Coffee Shop and the Common Ground Cafe Learn more about dining services On campus dining options include Davison Hall our main dining facility serves breakfast lunch and dinner seven days a week Coffee Shop Pub provides a refreshing venue for lunch a special place to take in an atmospheric dinner and a venue for music and socializing in the evenings Common Ground Cafe offers a full service coffee and espresso bar light refreshments and a nonpartisan space for thoughtful discussions Residential First Year Experience First year males reside mostly in Dominic Hall and first year females reside in either Joan of Arc Hall or Baroody Hall A standard room in a first year residence hall will be 11 x 14 in size furnished with a twin sized bed for each resident built in storage closets a desk and chair for each resident and a shared dresser First year students are strongly encouraged to consult our helpful list of what items to bring to college and what items to leave behind prior to arriving at school First year students also benefit from the Residential First Year Experience RFYE program that provides programmatic support to assist students as they make the transition to college life A collaborative effort of several campus offices including Health Services Campus Ministry Student Activities Academic Resource Center and the Office of Residential Life

    what makes Saint Anselm special and unique among liberal arts colleges Service to humanity is a core tenet of the Benedictine Catholic tradition and this ethos extends to our campus community as well Students attending Saint Anselm are expected to give amply of their time throughout the college career and are encouraged to lead their own service learning initiatives The Meelia Center for Community Engagement is the central hub for volunteering and service projects at Saint Anselm As the coordinating body for 14 community partnerships and more than 30 service agencies throughout Greater Manchester the Meelia Center is tasked with placing volunteers where they are needed and where they can make a difference Students generally commit to semester or year long projects and can find volunteer opportunities that suit their major or design and run their activities and workshops with the help of mentors Additionally students can participate in service learning projects that combine classroom instruction with community service Conducted as a course component service learning challenges students to apply what they learn in a working service setting during the school year College with a Conscience Saint Anselm Students faculty and staff log more than 16 000 community service hours
