  • Relay for Life Raises $75,000 for Cancer Research : Saint Anselm College
    teams sponsored by Delta Gamma Zeta and Koinonia broke the 10 000 mark for the first time Activities took place every hour throughout the night including pie a president tug of war a talent show and hair donation through Pantene s Beautiful Lengths program where at least 46 students donated their hair and helped make seven wigs for women battling cancer Abbot Matthew Leavy O S B served as the Grand Marshal and led the survivor s lap around the Carr Center Three children Ben Alli and Henry took part in the survivor s lap with Abbot Matthew as honorary Grand Marshals Ben and Alli are children paired with men s ice hockey and softball respectively through Team IMPACT an organization that pairs sick children with local collegiate athletic teams Henry is the 4 year old son of communication professor Jonathan Lupo Ph D currently undergoing treatments for sarcoma Andrew Litz associate dean of students said I m just absolutely elated with the work of the service societies toward their common event and our community s response to this cause I m overwhelmed with the generosity Event Photos Senior Vanessa Barros was one of three senior student speakers that shared her family s story Relay is my favorite event of the school year and I hope it continues to grow so we can help end cancer she said Relay for Life always reminds that people at Saint Anselm College are so kindhearted You see over 900 students giving up their Friday night to fight cancer I hope my story changed lives and made several people call their family members to remind them that they love them The top three student fundraisers senior Jordan Ouellette junior Terrence Walsh and sophomore Maggie Livingston raised 4 630 1 410 and 1 150 respectively

  • Academic Internships Bridge Classroom, Career : Saint Anselm College
    45 of the graduating class and is an increase of 10 from the previous year Each semester students also participate in academic service learning opportunities a slate of over 30 courses offered by the individual departments to serve those in need at home and abroad Expanding Opportunities for Networking and Career Knowledge This year Saint Anselm has expanded its internship programs to allow for 2 4 8 12 and 16 credit internships Students now have significantly more options and can become immersed in one or multiple internships that fit into their schedules says Alane De Luca executive director of the Internship Office This semester student experiences range widely There is an accounting major at BAE Systems a criminal justice major at the Department of Homeland Security a sociology major working in Human Resources at Elliot Hospital and an American Studies major at the NH Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence Another recently added program is Career Café a bi monthly lunchtime series of career building talks and workshops Students learn skills from searching the online jobs and internship postings in the Anselmian Career and Employer System ACES to creating a powerful LinkedIN profile and turning a job fair into a job offer Saint Anselm also offers many on campus internships that offer meaningful experiences for qualified students including jobs in its Financial Aid and Finance offices College Communications Marketing Alumni office and Athletics At Home in the Heart of State Government McKillop has family at the State House his Saint Anselm family that is Two of his peers majoring in politics also secured internships at the capitol building Kelly Flathers 15 and John Rogeri 16 Politics graduate Paxton Delano 14 interned in the Governor s office during her senior year and now has a full time job there These internships

  • Students Practice Job Interviews With Real Employers : Saint Anselm College
    or maybe even a career They took advantage of the opportunity to practice interviewing with a potential employer as part of a mock interview program offered by the Office of Career Services The interview sessions were held Tuesday March 24 in the Cushing Student Center It was the fourth time the event has been offered according to Sarah Mockler associate director for employee relations and it is always popular Well known companies participate she says listing Fidelity Investments Catholic Medical Center Bowdoin Group Meditech BAE Systems and Navigate Fund Solutions Subsidiary of Eaton Vance We always have Saint Anselm alumni who work at those companies and volunteer to do the interviews It provides valuable professional connections for students as well as a chance to strengthen their interview skills Each student had a 20 minute interview with a representative of a business they would like to work in They received specific feedback from their interviewers on their answers and the way they presented themselves Matthew Lesaffre a senior natural science major interviewed with Ann Curran a graduate of the Class of 2001 who is a supervisor of recruiting at Meditech She gave me tons of constructive criticism and helped me see things in my interview that I never would have noticed both positive and negative he said Curran told him that the three words he chose to describe himself were good because they all applied to different areas but that he should not interrupt himself to improve on an answer he was giving Lesaffre left with the business card of a fellow Anselmian and possibly future employer Curran says she is always happy to come back to Saint A s and meet students and help them out and the Office of Career Services appreciates having alumni participate Sam Allen director of

    a Vice President of Bain Company Inc a management consulting firm based in Boston Massachusetts In 1984 he left Bain Company Inc to co found a spin off private equity investment company Bain Capital where he worked until 1998 Governor Romney served as a director of the Company or its predecessors from 1993 through 2002 and again from January 2009 through January 2011 He rejoined the Board in December 2012 The life lessons and leadership skills Governor Romney will present to our graduates as they venture out into the world represent a wide range of experiences and accomplishments in both the public and private sectors Father Jonathan DeFelice O S B served as president of Saint Anselm College from 1989 to 2013 A member of the Benedictine community that founded the college Father Jonathan is also a graduate of the college s Class of 1969 Before becoming president he served his alma mater as a faculty member and in a number of administrative roles Under his leadership the college embarked on ambitious planning and development programs to strengthen its highly regarded liberal arts reputation as New England s third oldest Catholic college He has been a passionate advocate for Saint Anselm s mission that seeks to balance the academic spiritual and extracurricular lives of its students Hilda Alcindor BA RN was born and educated in Haiti She graduated from the EcoleNationale des Infirmieres National School of Nursing in Port au Prince Haiti and shortly thereafter moved to the U S She served in the U S Air Force and then worked nearly thirty years as a registered nurse Hilda Alcindor head of the Faculty of Nursing Science of the Episcopal University of Haiti in Leogane took charge of her student nurses when the earthquake struck and treated thousands of patients

    New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm promotes academic scholarship and discussion on the impact results may have on policy or in the next election cycle Organized by sociology professor Tauna Sisco and politics professors Chris Galdieri and Jennifer Lucas the event draws scholars from institutions across the country including Harvard Columbia MIT Dartmouth and University of Central Florida Sisco said that the Republican party s midterm dominance and unknown future was a consistent theme across presentations The past several election cycles have shown the Republicans to gain advantage at the midterms especially with a sitting Democrat president who was polling poorly she stated The youth vote mobilization was missing in the midterms and could play an important role in Democrat strategy for 2016 but will also be precarious because Obama s brand and youth following might not translate to other Democratic nominees Marginalized groups minorities women will continue to play an important role in electoral outcomes Partisanship is increasing but how it will impact the 2016 primary is unclear Keynote speaker Sasha Issenberg author of The Victory Lab The Secret Science of Winning Campaigns and a contributor to Bloomberg Politics spoke to the group on Friday night Sisco
