    and an optional 4 week overseas program Arizona State University offers a bachelor s degree in interdisciplinary studies The Melikian Center will work with interested students to craft a program of studies emphasizing Eastern European or Eurasian studies within the BIS program Offered through the University College of ASU s Phoenix campus the BIS program provides foundational instruction in humanities social sciences and natural science and is invested in the development of learning centered coursework for students in the College of Nursing and Healthcare Innovation College of Public Programs and Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication QUICK LINKS Sample BIS coursework with focus on Russian Eurasian and East European Studies Details on University College and the BIS degree The Islamic Studies Certificate is designed to provide a deeper appreciation for Islam s multiculturalism major achievements and contemporary relevance Its goal is to enhance students prospects for graduate admissions in Religious Studies Islamic Studies and Area Studies and for any professional program in international law and business that focuses on global Muslim societies See the Islamic Studies webpage for details The Baccalaureate Certificate in Russian and East European Studies REES encourages students to develop special competency in Russian Eurasian or East European languages and area studies Coursework leading to the certificate is offered by faculty of Agribusiness Anthropology Architecture Geography History Political Science Religious Studies Russian Eurasian East European Languages and Literatures Sociology and Women s Studies but the Certificate program is open to all students regardless of major Certificate holders enhance their prospects for study abroad fellowships and graduate admissions and also qualify for unique entry level government employment opportunities Past certificate awardees have moved into positions of leadership in government academia and the private sector Requirements Three years 22 semester credit hours of Russian or another Eurasian or East European language 30 semester hours at least 24 upper division hours in Russian Eurasian or East European area related coursework At least three disciplines must be represented in the area related coursework and at least 12 hours must be drawn from area related coursework outside those taught by School of International Letters and Cultures SILC faculty i e non RUS non SLC non SLV courses or courses taught by SILC faculty and listed under other course subject prefixes The Melikian Center certifies that all requirements have been met for the Russian and East European Studies Certificate at the time of the student s application for graduation Certificate recognition is noted in the student s graduating transcript which reads Degree Certificate Plan Russian and East European Studies certificate Frequently taught classes meeting the requirements of the certificate program are listed below A list of eligible courses being taught this semester is listed below This list is for planning purposes only It does not contain every class that might count toward the REES Certificate and certain classes that are on the list may not qualify in a given semester depending on the instructor and course content for that semester Students
