    Brain Day 2016 Train your Brain Day Game Day on January 21 2016 was a huge success The snows of Wednesday that threatened to dampen our spirits and our gaming interests did no such thing 160 women arrived at the Leisure World Clubhouse ready to have a good time and that they did We started the day with an energy breakfast of bagels danish and coffee then everyone went to their assigned table to play either mah jong canasta bridge or whatever their game of choice At 12 30 we took a break for lunch which was a great array of salads cheeses blintzes and some delicious sweets After lunch we continued our games until 2 30ish It was a wonderful day I think a good time was had by all and of course that is a testament to both Sybil Cantor and Shelby Herman Chairs of the event and their fantastic committee who organized the whole event Train Your Brain Day January 21 2016 BNC Greater Washington Events Calendar Mon 5 2 2016 Visit Brandeis Wed 5 4 2016 May Board Meeting Wed 5 11 2016 Spring Installation Luncheon Sun 5 15 2016 Ladies Night Out Wed 5 18

    Book and Author Luncheon 2015 Book and Author Luncheon 2015 There definitely was a WOW factor to this year s Book and Author Luncheon When you opened the doors on Wednesday October 21 2015 and saw the festive and colorful tables settings and the wonderful center pieces it took your breath away The Book and Author Committee under the leadership of Sheila Schrier and Sandy Levinson did a magnificent job organizing Everything moved along smoothly while providing a welcoming atmosphere to all The authors provided a diversity of subject matters ranging from personal to aging to politics They were all enlightening engaging and entertaining as they talked about their books and how they came to write them As always the attendees asked some interesting questions which added so much to the discussion A wonderful time was had by the more than 260 attendees who helped us raise money for Sustaining the Mind a research endeavor at Brandeis University to study neuro degenerative diseases Thanks to all for supporting us and we look forward to seeing you all again at our next event Sarah Wildman why she wrote Paper Love Searching for the Girl My Grandfather Left Behind Bill Gifford author of Spring Chicken Stay Young Forever or Die Trying entertainingly talking about our genes etc Richard Cohen Martin Frost Moderator Stan Levin Tom Davis Taking questions about The Partisan Divide Congress in Crisis Stan Levin as always our moderator Waiting for the Rush Interested Members Clever Centerpiece The Book and Author Chairs welcoming the Guests and Members BNC Greater Washington Events Calendar Mon 5 2 2016 Visit Brandeis Wed 5 4 2016 May Board Meeting Wed 5 11 2016 Spring Installation Luncheon Sun 5 15 2016 Ladies Night Out Wed 5 18 2016 Let s Do Lunch Wed 6 8

  • August 2015 New Member Coffee
    our Paid up New Member Coffee on August 27 2015 It was attended by 53 new members and 42 established members To say the least it was an impressive turnout The event went from 2 4 P M and our guests were served delicious pastries and fruit and of course coffee and tea It was a wonderful way to start a new year There was much joy among our returning members who attended For our new members it was a great way to meet so many returning members to experience the camaraderie among them and to learn about the opportunities that await them when they become active Ten committee chairs spoke briefly and answered any questions that arose We encouraged people to get involved and hopefully they will We are looking forward to a great year If you know someone who is interested in joining please let us know and we will be sure to invite them to the next Coffee for prospective members Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year Barbara and Honey BNC Greater Washington Events Calendar Mon 5 2 2016 Visit Brandeis Wed 5 4 2016 May Board Meeting Wed 5 11 2016 Spring Installation Luncheon

    2015 Sustaining the Mind Reception May 17 2015 BRANDEIS UNIVERSITY SUSTAINING THE MIND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIPS Our Sustaining the Mind project has formally come to an end after three years On May 17 our afternoon wine and cheese was held at the home of Ellen and Simon Atlas for our members who had contributed at least 100 to the campaign About 50 women and men attended to hear Phyllis Robinson a former researcher at Brandeis under Professor Eve Marder and now a researcher at the University of Maryland Department of Biological Science speak on the progress being made in the difficult fight to find cures for neuro degenerative diseases Ellen is introducing the speaker in the picture on the top right It was a beautiful lovely and very informative afternoon with music delicious food and a wonderful speaker An enjoyable time was had by all Si and Ellen were most gracious as host and hostess Thank you to them and their committee BNC Greater Washington Events Calendar Mon 5 2 2016 Visit Brandeis Wed 5 4 2016 May Board Meeting Wed 5 11 2016 Spring Installation Luncheon Sun 5 15 2016 Ladies Night Out Wed 5 18 2016 Let

    is Sweet was held Wednesday May 13 2015 at Lakewood Country Club with 9 00 a m Registration Boutique and 10 00 Program Co Presidents Judy Blickstein Barbara Fayne Luncheon Chairs Etta Doris Joni Sommer and Rita Weisstuch Proceeds to Benefit Brandeis University s Sustaining the Mind Program for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases With speakers Jason Loewith is the Artistic Director of the Olney Theatre Center where he recently directed Avenue Q How to Succeed in Business and the world premiere of Rancho Mirage As a playwright Jason won Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best New Musical for Adding Machine A Musical which he co wrote with composer Joshua Schmidt Other recent work included the world premiere of Janece Shaffer s Broke Alliance Theatre Atlanta and a dozen plays for Chicago s Next Theatre Company where he served as artistic director from 2002 08 Before joining Olney Theatre Center Jason proudly served four years as Executive Director of the National New Play Network His book The Director s Voice Volume 2 was published by TCG in 2012 Robert Romasco earned his B A in History at Brandeis University and his M B A at Harvard Business School He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Amalgamated Bank and the Eastwood Company In June 2014 he completed an eight year term on AARP s Board of Directors serving as president and chief national volunteer spokesperson from 2012 2014 Mr Romasco has held executive positions with QVC CIGNA J C Penney American Century Investments and Epsilon He has also served on the boards of numerous large and emerging companies BNC Greater Washington Events Calendar Mon 5 2 2016 Visit Brandeis Wed 5 4 2016 May Board Meeting Wed 5 11 2016 Spring Installation Luncheon Sun 5 15 2016

    women who have found their way to wonderful careers each in fields not generally available to women 20 or 30 years ago Our first speaker was the Honorable Rose Krasnow who even with a B A and M A had to start her career as a secretary She parlayed that to bond trader After becoming a mother and being active in her neighborhood she was elected to the Rockville City Council as the token woman then reelected She was then elected and served as Mayor of Rockville for three terms Currently she is Deputy Director of the Montgomery Planning Department at the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission The second guest was Cantor Lisa Levine She always enjoyed singing and being active in her Temple and religious camp Eventually she went to Cantorial School while also practicing yoga She has been a Cantor for over 25 years composing songs performing and teaching her YogaShalom She has also trained to be a Pastoral Councilor which she has been aspiring to be Our third speaker was Judge Karla Smith who has been a prosecutor Judge on the District Court and recently became the first African American Women on the Circuit Court She explained how she pushed herself to apply for those positions and succeeded to be appointed She described how difficult it is for women to be chosen for nomination and while We ve Come a Long Way there is a yet a long way to go The speakers were each presented with a literary research journal in her name to be placed in the Brandeis library and they were each very much appreciated by the audience The coffee tea and sweets were enjoyed by the arriving people and the box lunch was quite a hit A wonderful day for all
