    Band Studio Band Dixieland Band Percussion Ensemble Brass Band Still playin Ana Hartwick 2004 Music 2000 04 Wind Orchestra 1 2 Wind Quintet The University Singers After graduating in 04 I continued at Cal Poly and received my teaching credential During that time I continued to sing with the Cuesta Master Chorale In 07 I moved back to the Bay Area and taught elementary and middle school music choir band While residing in the East Bay I continued to play flute in the Educators Band at Las Medanos College Over this last summer I moved to Charleston SC with my fiance Kevin who was relocated with the Coast Guard I am currently teaching CD 6th grade music in the historical downtown area of Charleston and enjoying all the local history Ryan Putt 2006 Music 1999 2006 Wind Orchestra Wind Ensemble University Jazz Band Marching Band Brass Quintet Brass Choir Trombone Choir etc After graduating from Cal Poly I went to the University of Nevada Reno to pursue my Master s in Music focusing on Instrumental Conducting and Trombone Performance I graduated May 2009 and finally have been able to pursue my life long dream of becoming a musician in a military band On November 5 2009 I signed my enlistment contract and was sworn in to the United States Navy as a trombonist I shipped out to boot camp on December 15 2009 I hope to make a career in the Navy and eventually be offered a commission as an officer in order to become a conductor and eventually hope to become the conductor of the Navy Band in Washington D C In any case as I have done so far I will always carry the memories of my time at Cal Poly with me in my professional career I hope my fellow classmates are doing well and wish you all the best in all your pursuits Clarence Rail 1952 Agricultural Engineering 1948 52 Glee Club 4 years Majors Minors 3 years I sing with the Pride of Iowa Barbershop Chorus and the Ankeny Methodist Church Choir Gerry Reynolds 1963 Agricultural Business 1970 Education Marching Band 1960 63 Collegians 1963 Actively playing drums in jazz combos in the Phoenix area after retiring several tears ago from a higher education career in student services I ve also produced a monthly jazz series at a local church for the last nine years that included Grammy winners and numerous professional instrumentalists and vocalists who I ve had the pleasure to perform with Mary Jane Niboli Riojas 1960 Home Economics 1954 60 Marching Band Played clarinet at Cal Poly am retired finally Byron Sartain 2004 Music 2000 04 Chamber Orchestra Wind Orchestra Brass Ensemble After leaving Cal Poly in 2004 I earned a master s degree in music history at the University of Wisconsin Madison During that time I presented my work at an annual meeting of the Society for American Music and a graduate conference at Harvard After taking a restorative year off

    series of concerts on the first Sunday of every month except Easter at Vina Robles Winery in Paso Robles Each performance will include a guest artist performing with the band The kick off concert on March 7 featured the legendary saxophonist Red Holloway perhaps the area s best known resident jazz musician April 11 moved from April 4 Easter Sunday will showcase vocalist Sunny Wright who has performed with UJB 1 often in the past May 2 showcases vibraphonist Charlie Shoemake who puts on his own series of world class jazz concerts at the Hamlet in Cambria and for the June 6 concert the band will perform with the great saxophonist Ernie Watts The concerts start at 3 pm Performing a regular series of concerts is the next step for UJB 1 as a working big band says Paul Rinzler the band s director and Music Department professor While the band has been invited to return engagements such as a swing dance series in Santa Barbara the Vina Robles concerts are the first ongoing gig for UJB 1 By playing gigs such as these for which the band receives payment a valuable sense of professionalism is encouraged I m very

    had in Seattle while wearing my favorite Batman T shirt the show had started that year and was the coolest thing around Lyndon Johnson was President a gallon of gas cost 32 cents and William Johnson started teaching at Cal Poly We re going to celebrate Bill a k a J and his remarkable tenure and achievements throughout the year as he s announced his retirement at the end of this school term Fittingly his last action as a music professor will be conducting his Cal Poly Wind Ensemble on stage at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on June 22 2010 Bill has accomplished many extraordinary things in his years at Cal Poly all of which were and are fueled by his passionate commitments to education and music He s brought the quality of his instrumental program still joyously dependent upon non music majors to an amazingly high level He s taught thousands of students introductory music theory over the last 43 years and has also taught conducting and a course on instrumental literature and rehearsal techniques He s taken our ensembles on tour all over the world Students lives have been enriched in countless ways by Bill s efforts

    Graduates Soundboard Newsletter 2009 Fall College of Liberal Arts Awards Music Faculty Member and Student Recognized by College of Liberal Arts Alyson McLamore Alyson McLamore was given the award for Outstanding Service one of three Richard K Simon Faculty Awards She produced curriculum packages that are viewed across the CSU as models of clarity and consistency and assisted the provost as special assistant for campus program review At the department level McLamore designed an assessment review of the music program s annual performance juries allowing faculty to monitor the consistency between separate jury panels and to measure the effectiveness of the current scoring rubrics She earned her bachelor s teaching credential master s and doctorate from the University of California at Los Angeles Kelly Eshoff Music Major Kelly Eshoff was recipient of the Contributions to College Image Senior Recognition award She graduated summa cum laude in June and is attending San Francisco State University to get a single subject teaching credential in music While at Cal Poly Eshoff participated in the choral ensembles Early Music Ensemble PolyPhonics University Singers and Oh Snap barbershop quartet She was also in a Cal Poly Opera Workshop production sang in the chorus for the
