    into the program Successful completion of an undergraduate program degree from an accredited institution is required prior to the start of classes Many students in the program have a degree or concentration accounting while others can have degrees in related fields like economics mathematics or statistics Admission is limited and very competitive so if you are ready to embark on an exciting career in taxation with unlimited possibilities you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible Due to the unique structure of this cohort program Cal Poly accepts applications for fall quarter admission only The application deadline is April 1 Due to rolling admissions however we encourage early applications All students begin their program with a short intensive session which generally runs mid August through early September Required Elements Acceptable Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited institution in accounting or any other discipline Acceptable GMAT or GRE score 4 quarter units in Federal Taxation 8 quarter units in any accounting subject in addition to the federal taxation course OR 2 years of full time work experience in accounting Optional Materials proof of accounting related work experience submitted via Interfolio including A statement explaining the details of how and why the

    accounting to be admitted into the program No You do need to have a bachelor s degree but it does not have to be in accounting specifically However you MUST have a sufficient number of credits in taxation accounting or accounting related courses with no less than a grade of B in each course to ensure your success in the program This means that applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of i one 1 course in federal taxation in undergraduate school plus ii either a minimum of eight 8 quarter units in accounting in addition to the course in federal taxation or two 2 years of full time work experience in accounting What is the minimum GPA required You must have an undergraduate GPA of 2 5 or equivalent to apply to the program Satisfying this minimum will not guarantee admission however Most students who successfully complete the program have a GPA in their undergraduate studies in excess of 3 4 What is the minimum GMAT or GRE required For applicants taking the GRE instead of the GMAT the GRE score is converted to an equivalent GMAT score The minimum required GMAT score for admission into the program is 530 Satisfying this minimum does not guarantee admission however Average GMAT scores for admitted students is usually around 600 When will I be notified whether I am admitted into the program Your file will NOT be reviewed until it is complete Many applicants submit their materials as they complete them and not together as a complete packet A letter of acceptance or rejection is promptly mailed to the applicant following a decision by the admissions committee How does the mandatory internship work The internship provides students with a clinical tax experience thereby enabling them to apply skills and competencies to an employment opportunity in a professional environment Students will serve in a full time supervised work experience at either i a public accounting firm ii an accounting or internal audit department of a private enterprise or iii local state or federal government agency Generally the intern will receive compensation from the firm or agency that employs the intern The internship will conclude on a date that will permit students to resume their studies at Cal Poly during the spring quarter Will I be able to choose the location of my internship The location of your internship is dependent upon the firm s that you apply with during the fall recruiting season at Cal Poly Will international students be accepted into the program At the present time we are not accepting international students into the MSA Tax program What are the tuition and related program expenses And how and when do I pay my tuition And what is the refund policy Please check and closely read the cost information contained on the Orfalea College of Business Graduate Programs website You will pay your tuition to Cal Poly Extended Education in three installment payments Students who do not meet the deadlines will
