  • OCOB - Financial Management Concentration
    security analysis and portfolio management equity and derivative markets corporate finance IPO and corporate bond markets alternative investments FX commodities and real estate markets and quantitative finance In addition course work in computer science management information systems accounting and economics is encouraged to provide broader familiarity with these important areas for finance professionals Financial Management concentration declaration Required Courses This concentration has four required courses which provide finance students with fundamentals of asset valuation and applies these principles to securities as well as business assets These principles are applied in courses focused on financial markets and institutions and on corporate finance Within the finance curriculum students can further specialize in one of three tracks depending upon their career goals the Financial Services track including insurance retirement and estate planning the corporate finance track or the financial analyst track working for investment banks brokerage industry or the asset management industry The following are the required course that should be taken in sequence Course Units BUS 431 Security Analysis and Portfolio Mgmt 4 BUS 438 Advanced Corporate Finance 4 BUS 439 Fixed Income Securities and Markets 4 BUS 443 Case Studies in Finance 4 Advisor approved electives 12 Recent News Paul Orfalea

    programs are accredited by AACSB In this section Industrial Technology Packaging Major Packaging Minor Industrial Technology Minor Programs Industrial Technology Packaging Major The BS in industrial technology and packaging prepares students for careers that involve working with people and technology concurrently particularly in settings where innovation and change are involved Employment can be found in a variety of industries manufacturing communications transportation and biomedical but particularly in businesses and other organizations involved in global relationships and the implementation of new product or process technologies Positions that graduates secure are quite varied industrial sales facilities management production quality management packaging supplier relations with salaries at the higher end of bachelor s level degree holders In addition to foundation courses there are three themes that are woven together within the coursework that is required of all industrial technology and packaging majors packaging value chain management and technology entrepreneurship Packaging courses provide students with knowledge and hands on experience in packaging design testing and production Courses in the value chain management area focus on supplier relations distribution operations management and related quality management Technology entrepreneurship course materials address issues of product design venture development and new business strategy Packaging Minor The purpose of this interdisciplinary minor is to complement the student s degree major with a planned curriculum in packaging The program is designed to capitalize on theories and skills learned in other disciplines thereby uniquely preparing students for success as packaging professionals in positions ranging from highly technical research and development through purchasing production sales and management Industrial Technology Minor This minor is an interdisciplinary program Students learn about the technical social and business issues related to the use of new technology and how the technology is integrated into corporate operations The minor appeals to students who are majoring in non technical

    Orfalea College of Business incorporates a broad range of technical skills and business management to cultivate best in class industrial leaders The collaborative project based classes create well rounded problem solving graduates that would be successful and quickly functional in any industry Students develop a strong foundation in the science liberal arts business and management disciplines as well as extensive hands on coursework in two areas of emphasis Operations and Packaging technologies The Operations Technology encompasses General operations management Supply chain management Lean processes Product development The Packaging Technology encompasses Packaging design Packaging performance testing The program operates an extensive network of industrial labs that provides students exposure to technologies as disparate product fabrication packaging design testing plastic products and rapid prototyping Reflecting the realities of 21st century business the program incorporates substantive emphases on lean operations and sustainable packaging practices Each student completes coursework in these topics and will have the chance to apply their classroom instruction in experiential learning opportunities both on campus and in the community These emphases are in turn strengthened by faculty research and robust industry partnerships During their experience in industrial technology and packaging at Cal Poly students are learning by doing in many ways engaging in product development projects designing prototype packaging solutions conducting lean manufacturing analyses developing plans for technology commercialization and throughout focusing on the intersection between technology people and organizations After graduation usually before receiving their diplomas they find personally and financially rewarding positions in many sectors and in companies large and small Program History and Accreditation The industrial technology and packaging program at Cal Poly is an exemplar of a national movement in interdisciplinary industry focused education that gained prominence in the early 1960 s and which spoke to the need for managers who could address both the technical
