    supporting students raise their GPA over a 2 0 Below is a list of some of the support services the Orfalea College of Business provides to students on Academic Probation and Subject to Disqualification PolyLearn Orfalea College of Business Academic Support Every student who is on Academic Probation or Subject to Disqualification is enrolled in a mandatory PolyLearn which is an online seminar that educates students on policies connects them to campus resources assists in reflection and guides the student in creating goals for her his future quarters at Cal Poly Academic Strategies Workshop During the second week of every quarter an Academic Strategies Workshop is held to help students develop a strategic academic plan and learn about key resources Some students attendance may be mandatory For information about the dates and times of this workshop call the Advising Center at 805 756 2601 or email cobadvis calpoly edu Free Tutoring The Orfalea College of Business provides free tutoring for many classes in the Student Success Center located in the back of the third floor computer lab The schedule of drop in tutoring hours can be found here Mentor Connection This is a free program provided to Orfalea College of Business students designed to assist other students in the social personal and academic acclimation to Cal Poly As a student who participates in the program you will be assigned to an upperclassmen Business Economics or Industrial Technology Peer Mentor who will work with you to meet goals and provide you guidance through the quarter Meet with an Academic Advisor A student who is on Academic Probation or Subject to Disqualification can make an appointment with an Academic Advisor by calling 805 756 2601 or coming into the Advising Center 03 100 and identifying their academic status Academic Disqualification Students who

    package Developing and validating designs using consumer research Presenting and defending your research and design recommendations Economics All Economics students write an independent research project on a topic of their choice Economics students are required to complete their senior project in an Economics course ECON 464 A syllabus containing details on the economics senior project is available on the department website found here http www cob calpoly edu academic economics senior economic projects Entrepreneurship Students completing their senior project in entrepreneurship will work on an actual startup through what we call the Lean Launch process This involves developing the business model for their opportunity through extensive outside customer development activities All students work in interdisciplinary teams with students from other colleges Many also get involved in activities of the Cal Poly Center for Innovation Entrepreneurship including the on campus Hatchery and the HotHouse Accelerator Some past examples include LunaLight designing building and marketing a low cost solar powered lighting system for developing countries but also now used in recreational activities VegThisWay a new food product being brought to market that combines the health of vegetables with the taste of a fruit rollup HomeSlice an app that helps roommates manage their lives together with less stress and more cooperation Liftgate Light a removable tailgate system which allows people to use their pickup truck more effectively for both work and leisure FOG Walker a cane and walker based device that helps Parkinson s patients maintain mobility SonarCane an add on for canes for the vision impaired that sees above the waist ErgoKnife a set of special handles for utensils that assists people with arthritis and other hand impairments with cutting and eating motions A senior project section is offered in conjunction with the College of Engineering during Fall Quarter Students form interdisciplinary teams to develop a startup concept and take this through customer development agile design and minimum viable product to potential launch Most Entrepreneurship Concentration students combine this Fall senior project with the Winter Quarter Entrepreneurship Capstone Course BUS 488 in order to extend their work on their startup Others may begin their startup work in the Capstone Course and take their senior project in the Spring Quarter For more information about entrepreneurship at Cal Poly see cie calpoly edu Finance During the Fall term finance students may choose from the following SP alternatives A The Student Managed Portfolio Project BUS 461 and BUS 462 will be taught by Dr Ramezani Students who wish to enroll in this course MUST obtain consent of the instructor and attend the first day of class More information about this course see HERE and HERE The syllabus is available HERE B The Cal Poly CFA Challenge BUS 464 will be taught by Dr Ramezani Students who wish to enroll in this course should contact Prof Ramezani soon and MUST attend the first lecture More information about this course is HERE and HERE The syllabus for this course is available HERE C Traditional Senior Projects including

    and other experiences enable you to test out a career and develop marketable skills An internship is a short term work experience in which you receive training and gain experience in a specific field or career area It can be paid or unpaid and can vary in hours and length Finding an internship takes planning organization and persistence It is important to start early to allow yourself enough time to do everything you can to thoroughly research and pursue opportunities that interest you most Steps to Getting an Internship 1 Develop your internship goals Spend some time thinking about your possible internship Ask yourself why you want one and when you want to take it The clearer you are about what you want to gain from an internship the more likely you are to have a successful internship experience Useful questions are Why do I want an internship what are my career goals What do I want to learn from an internship What sort of company or organization would enable me to learn those things Where do I want the internship to be located How much time do I want to spend at the internship Will you consider both paid nonpaid internships Do you want credit for the internship 2 Use Multiple Resources to Identify Internships Once you have an idea of the sort of internship you want use a variety of methods to explore internship opportunities View a breakdown of the resources available to you 3 Perfect your Resume and Cover Letter It must be perfect in order to be competitive for an internship position Resume guidelines and sample resumes can help you get started Cover letter guidelines Get help from Career Services Drop in hours 1 00 3 00pm Monday Thursday for cover letter and resume reviews 4

    you must fill out this form along with a new signed concentration declaration form Students may only change their concentration if they have fewer than 150 Higher Education Units If over 150 Higher Education Units come to Orfalea Student Services Bldg 03 Room 100 for more information Choice of Catalog Students may request to complete their degrees on a catalog older than 10 years if the only remaining degree requirements at the time they left Cal Poly do not exceed 16 units These remaining degree requirements may include senior project GWR and or USCP The decision to approve or deny a student s request is based on both His her willingness to commit to completing outstanding degree requirements within a specified time frame and His her ability to demonstrate with written documentation reasonable currency of knowledge and skills in her his degree field to the satisfaction of the faculty in the applicable major as certified by the department chair Both the college dean and the Vice Provost for Academic Programs Undergraduate Education must give their approval Commencement Petition Request If you would like to participate in a commencement ceremony that does not correspond with your date of graduation you will need to fill out this form Course Withdrawal Petition Student may withdraw from a class after the add drop date only if they have a serious or compelling reason and appropriate third party documentation The student instructor Academic Advisor and Area Chair offering this course must sign the form in that order Please read the Orfalea College of Business Withdrawal Policy before picking up a withdrawal form from the Office of Registrar Excess Unit Request Undergraduates requesting more than 20 units or Graduates requesting more than 16 units for a quarter need to fill out this form Request for Graduation
