    strict privacy guidelines designed to protect personal information Frequently Asked Questions HOW DO I REFER A STUDENT Access the Referral Form via the Orfalea OutREACH webpage We encourage Faculty and Staff to consider calling our Professional Advising Staff in the case a student is facing an emergency or extremely time sensitive matter HOW IS THE STUDENT OUTREACH INTERVENTION DESIGNED AND DETERMINED Professional Advising Staff manage all Referral Forms being submitted to evaluate previous communications or interactions made with the student Due to the Orfalea Student Services office s extensive appointment preparation and follow up internal note taking system each student who has sought services through Orfalea Student Services has detailed notes regarding his or her appointment Outreach and Interventions are designed to provide timely follow up based on the severity of students situations and strategies for intervening in an effective manner IN WHAT WAYS DO STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM THIS SYSTEM A referral can be a critical step in assessing the needs of the student in order to provide them with the support needed for their specific situation This system s purpose is to identify students who may not practice seeking help or resources independently The outreach and support provided by the Professional Advising Staff introduces the student to the services provided by Orfalea Student Services IN WHAT WAYS DO FACULTY AND STAFF BENEFIT FROM THIS SYSTEM As a result of submitting a referral Faculty and Staff can ensure a student s specific and unique needs can be addressed in a timely and efficient manner In the situation that student is in crisis the student will be given immediate support and referred to the appropriate resource This referral system is expected to enhance student academic performance as well as increase retention and student engagement This system will serve as a platform

  • OCOB - College Based /Student Success Fees – 2015-2016
    College Based Fee Committee meets annually with the goal of gathering student input on directing funds towards student development and enhancing educational quality for students within Orfalea This committee is composed of student leaders within the college across all class levels and majors in Orfalea led by Kris McKinlay the Assistant Dean of Operations and Student Success and Amy Carter the Director of Advising for Orfalea Student Services This year the committee met on October 20 th 2015 and included the following student representatives Kevin Tian 2 nd Year Business Administration Marketing Management Brittany Oliveira 2 nd Year Business Administration Information Systems Kayjing Chua 3 rd Year Industrial Technology Major Timothy Trinidad 4 th Year Business Administration Accounting Eric Millan 4 th Year Business Administration Accounting Celene Leiva 3 rd Year Economics General Economics Anika Kokatay 1 st Year Business Administration Undeclared The Orfalea College of Business has approximately 2 654 million this year from College Based Fees All but 120 000 has been allocated to pay faculty and student assistants funded solely by the College Based Fees The College Based Fee Committee discussed the following options Student lounge on 3 rd floor Mini fishbowls for group meetings Couches and comfortable seating Laptop and phone charging station Microwave Updating computer labs Laptop charger checkout station similar to the computer lab at Kennedy Library Charging tables in classrooms Providing Industrial Technology students off campus access to SolidWorks a 3D CAD Design software program Additional travel grants for students participating in international trips hosted by OCOB Reimbursing club fees for students who can t afford them with possible application process Brita filtered drinking fountain in Breezeway More outdoor seating for group work Result A survey was sent out to students to gather input around a student lounge space and other building enhancements they would like to see in Orfalea If you are an OCOB student you can access the survey here to provide additional feedback http www surveygizmo com s3 2424292 6bf4cb539c11 The college is in the process of updating this space to be more accommodating for individual and group study space lounge area and charging stations STUDENT SUCCESS FEE History and Purpose Effective fall quarter 2012 Cal Poly established a mandatory Category II Student Success Fee SSF at the rate of 160 per quarter during the 2012 13 fiscal year and increasing by 50 per quarter effective Fall 2013 and Fall 2014 until the scheduled increases reach a maximum rate of 260 per quarter in fiscal year 2014 15 This fee has been approved across campus to facilitate student enrichment and development campus diversity and multicultural competence counseling and advising for students experiencing personal challenges and academic retention and graduation initiatives Orfalea College of Business Student Success Fee Summary for AY2014 Orfalea College of Business has used their Student Success Fee monies to pay 17 tenure tenure track faculty members These professors are Accounting professors Brian Burnett Herb Hunt Earl Keller Rodney Mock and Jeff Tolin Economics professors Katherine Eriksson Carlos
