    with faculty advisors and perform community service See a full list of Carthage student organizations Alpha Kappa Delta Alpha Kappa Delta is Carthage s honorary sociology society Students need a 3 5 overall GPA to be inducted and are eligible during their junior year Pals and Partners Pals and Partners is very popular with Carthage sociology majors The program pairs Carthage students with community children who are identified as at risk because of home life or experiences in school Carthage students provide positive role models for the children help them understand the importance of school and encourage them to get involved in positive activities outside the classroom Participants must commit a minimum of two hours per week to the program Habitat for Humanity The Carthage chapter of Habitat for Humanity strives to eliminate poverty Locally the organization works with a Racine affiliate by volunteering work in the Kenosha Racine area Every spring break members go on an annual Collegiate Challenge trip and travel to places like Oklahoma North Carolina and Georgia While on these trips students volunteer their help in building homes for low income families All students are welcome to join and no building experience is necessary Academic Resources

    taught on raw foods through Adrikos Academy a holistic healing and wellness website Acknowledging it s unrealistic to expect people to give up cooked foods entirely she advises a more modest shift to a 51 percent raw diet With the help of a dehydrator Ms Sarantakis said people can continue to enjoy the foods they liked to cook It s really not about torturing yourself she said It s a lifestyle Book dedicated to Carthage professor She dedicated the book to Carthage sociology professor Wayne Thompson whom she credits with leaving the largest impact on her life To go along with majors in political science and philosophy Ms Sarantakis earned a minor in sociology while taking classes and completing a work study under his guidance Her entrepreneurial attitude stood out to Prof Thompson He said Ms Sarantakis who was more comfortable speaking Greek than English in her early childhood embodies the hard working immigrant mentality She s really what you d call a blue collar scholar Prof Thompson said Not a vegan herself the former Clausen Scholar sees a strong Carthage influence in her willingness to tackle a somewhat foreign issue Here she learned to shed the fear of the unknown Carthage made me very open minded to all kinds of alternative concepts Ms Sarantakis said Hobbies include being cover girl Well before tackling the book she made a habit of issuing challenges to herself For instance she wanted to do some work in the modeling industry by age 18 Check As a part time model Ms Sarantakis was photographed for a British car magazine and can be seen on the cover of the Danielle Steel novel One Day at a Time It wasn t a hobby that came naturally to her and that was part of the draw I
