    monuments and university While earning her bachelor s degree in English Philology there Ms Muñoz Andrés taught in a bilingual kindergarten class My fellows were native speakers of English who came from different countries such as Ireland Canada and England so I had the chance to learn both English and how to teach she said That little experience helped me so much I thought that becoming a TLE would be apart from a dream come true the biggest chance of my life She also has experience teaching in a school in Salamanca and Ms Muñoz Andrés interpreted for the Turkish volleyball team during its stay in the area She believes the Carthage program is the ideal next step on her Ph D track In the U S she can spend more time exploring the literature history and other aspects of the country that has always fascinated her I have always loved the English language and American culture so becoming a TLE will help me to be a better teacher to improve my English and to know this amazing culture more deeply she said Ms Muñoz Andrés loves acting and was a stage regular with a theatre group She also enjoys

    a variety of cultures to converge at Carthage The TLE community is a small world Mr Miura said We each exchange values through intercultural communication There is no specific culture among TLEs just an open mind He specialized in Japanese pedagogy during his undergraduate studies at Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo In addition he has worked as a night school teacher a teaching assistant in a language institute and a conversation leader for exchange students Those experiences solidified his interest in teaching Japanese while working as a waiter in a French restaurant encouraged him to continue studying that language A meeting with Professor Yan Wang during Mr Miura s senior year piqued his interest in the TLE program He sees his confidence as an educator growing during his time on campus and the learning goes both ways I have learned a lot of things from the students he said I love them Carthage students are awesome A Zen Buddhist whose parents live in a Buddhist temple he often practices meditation by the lake to re energize Mr Miura enjoys both playing and listening to jazz music attending several concerts a year on campus Since age 6 he has practiced Kendo

    any real experience as a French teacher so Carthage was an opportunity I could not miss she said Rather than just assist language professors Ms Brion relishes the chance to teach classes herself She wants to continue to teach French classes abroad with South America and Asia on her wish list For sure my experience as a Target Language Expert at Carthage is going to help me with these future plans because I have learned to work alone and in a team discovered a new system and met people from all over the world While on campus she plans to complete a separate master s degree in education She believes that s a strong complement to her ongoing graduate work back in Caen and her undergraduate degree in English literature and civilization Being a teacher and a student at the same time is very demanding she said However it accelerates the process of learning and makes my experience even more enlightening Ms Brion said she loves to travel and learn about other cultures That happens naturally when mingling with TLEs from six other nations I do miss bread cheese and everything France has to offer she said but it s

    service In France Ms Püschel worked as an assistant teacher But extensive travel hasn t lessened her affinity for her German hometown of Lübbenau It s situated in the beautiful region called Spreewald she said a biological reserve full of forests meadows and little rivers that actually built a huge labyrinth of canals through the forest which you can discover by bike or boat Her bachelor s degree in Humanities and German as a Foreign Language came from the University of Greifswald Her master s thesis through Leipzig University focuses on German as a Foreign Language Estudios Contrantivos de la Lengua Literatura y Cultura Alemana Ms Püschel sees the Carthage TLE program as a perfect combination of study work experience and the chance to improve my English as well as to get to know the United States and its cultures and people She s confident the time on campus will broaden her teaching strategies I hope I get to know a lot of nice people who will become a part of my life and hopefully we also help each other in a professional way she said adding that she wants to get to know a bigger part of the world
