  • Center for Children's Literature — Carthage College
    College is a nationally recognized collection that informs and inspires educators parents college students and librarians to develop a love of reading in children The Center regularly exhibits original work by children s book authors and illustrators including draft revisions and manuscripts Read about a recent exhibit The center located on the first floor of Carthage s Hedberg Library has more than 25 000 recent children s and young adult titles for kindergarten through high school Nearly 2 500 new volumes are added each year The center hosts workshops organizes reading programs and sponsors lectures and seminars by noted authors and illustrators Past visiting authors have included Graeme Base Lois Ehlert Candy Fleming Florence Parry Heide Barbara Joosse Lois Lowry Gerald Morris and Eric Rohmann Reviews of recent children s books are regularly posted on the web site for parents and educators The collection is available in Hedberg Library during regular library hours Join the Friends of the Center and receive a special library card to borrow specific volumes as well as other privileges Book Reviews Looking Like Me by Walter Dean Myers Queen of the Falls by Chris Van Allsburg Anya s War by Andrea Alban Symphony City by

    whenever possible in new construction and renovation The College has focused on making it easy for all students faculty staff and visitors to recycle Single Stream Recycling At Carthage most recycling is single stream recycling which means recyclable paper plastic cans and glass can be mixed in one bin Items are then sorted at a separate waste management facility through the use of various mechanized screens and optical sorting technologies Single stream recycling programs have greatly increased recycling rates recovering as much as three times the amount of recyclable materials Carthage contracts with Waste Management which became the first major solid waste company to focus on residential single stream recycling in 2001 What can you recycle Where can you recycle Reduce Reuse Recycle Practicing the three R s is the best way to reduce waste and conserve our resources Reduce the amount of waste you create Reuse containers and products Recycle as much as possible See tips for greener shopping See tips for greener life at home or work See tips to take action Recycling facts Suggestions If you have suggestions on campus recycling please send an e mail to Mary Slater Environmental Services Supervisor Keep Exploring Areas of Study
