    annual networking dinner is one of many forums that bring together Carthage students and alumni Alumni lend their support to current Carthage students in a variety of ways Among roughly 50 who attended the 2012 networking dinner was Nathan Giebel 12 who as a recent graduate found it interesting to offer rather than receive career advice During his time at Carthage Mr Giebel said he frequently interacted with alumni through his fraternity Student Government and his classes He considers those relationships just as valuable as the ones he formed with professors and the resources available through the Career Services office Since graduating he has worked as pricing analyst for Satori Energy a Chicago company owned by David Wiers 98 Mr Giebel said the networking opportunities made the job hunt much smoother I wasn t so much taking shots in the dark as I was following leads much like a detective or a reporter he said There s a mutual benefit Mr Wiers a past president of the Alumni Council said his interaction with Carthage students has shown they re a solid fit for his business I am impressed with the ability of the Carthage students to process information he said Our industry is fast paced and constantly evolving Not everyone has the ability to adhere to a multitude of different tasks but the students who graduate from Carthage are well prepared for this type of business environment More than 100 alumni also have registered to mentor students through the Carthage Career Connection website In addition a LinkedIn group for Carthage alumni has grown to include more than 1 700 members Many students choose Carthage because as a smaller school it can provide a personal touch That continues after graduation said Jean Frederick director of Career Services Our alumni have shown they re willing to reach out Gain experience on campus Tom Bez 03 a business rental sales executive at Enterprise Holdings in Northbrook Ill comes to campus a couple of times each year to meet with students While expressing a willingness to help graduates secure an initial interview with his employer Mr Bez advises students to pour the foundation for their own careers by applying for internships and taking active roles in campus activities It prepares you organizationally and motivationally to succeed in the workplace he said After an enthusiastic alumnus touted Bucyrus International at a networking event Milos Vukosavljevic 08 fulfilled a major goal by landing a job with the large global corporation Caterpillar Inc has since bought out Bucyrus and he now works for that company s Customer Services Support Division in Oak Creek Mr Vukosavljevic said quite a few of his colleagues at Caterpillar attended Carthage A couple of them were even in the team I originally started with and were very helpful and patient with me he said I took the same approach with other alums who got employed with Bucyrus as I remembered how much everyone s help meant to me The Carthage connections remain
