  • Biography — Robert Bonn — Carthage College
    and at Framingham State College and head coach for boys basketball and baseball at Westwood High School in Massachusetts Under Bonn s leadership the Carthage athletic program has become nationally recognized and respected based on significant improvements in facilities fund raising coaching expertise and team athlete success Athletic participation includes almost 30 percent of the undergraduate student body with over 700 students involved in 24 NCAA intercollegiate sports 12 men 12 women Seven sports have been added during Bonn s tenure men s and women s soccer women s golf men s volleyball women s water polo and both men s and women s lacrosse In his 20 year tenure Carthage teams have won 65 College of Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships and placed in the top eight in nation 23 times His latest initiative was the development of an endowment for each of Carthage s athletic teams which was completed in 2010 As of 2012 the total athletic endowment exceeds 800 000 Bonn earned a bachelor s degree in physical education and health from the University of Connecticut in 1974 where he lettered in baseball and lacrosse He was a member of the Connecticut baseball team that played in the 1972 College World Series and was named lacrosse defensive player of the year for the 1974 squad He received his master s degree from Springfield College in 1975 and his doctorate in education with an emphasis in sport psychology and sociology from Boston University in 1983 Bonn serves on the NCAA Region 4 Postgraduate Scholarship Committee and in Kenosha County he serves on the selection committee for the Holy Rosary Sports Night High School Athletes of the Year Bonn is a past president of the National Association of Athletic Development Directors NAADD and a former member of the

    he first served as a Teaching Assistant and later as an Assistant Instructor of Spanish While at UT Austin he received numerous scholarships and awards including a Carrie Lee Kennedy Fellowship an Oliver William Kennedy Fellowship a David Bruton Jr Fellowship and the prestigious University Continuing Fellowship in 1998 99 He was twice elected as President of the Graduate Student Organization of the Department of Spanish Portuguese in 1995 96 and 1996 97 He received his B A in 1990 from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a quadruple major in Spanish Political Science International Relations and Ibero American Studies Since joining the Carthage faculty Professor Borden has focused his efforts and research on the areas of Foreign Language Pedagogy and Service Learning In recent years he has presented papers in these fields at numerous international conferences including in Hawaii January 2004 Spain September 2004 July 2005 July 2006 and China June 2005 He has also collaborated with Milwaukee productions of plays and even ballet related to his literary interest in Spanish Golden Age theater In January 2006 he served as co dramaturg for the Milwaukee Rep s version of Sueño an adaptation of La vida es sueño by Calderón

    impossible reading La Celestina at the International Congress on Hispanic Literature in San Juan Puerto Rico and Pre reading how to prepare students for any literary texts at the international congress of the European Association of Professors of Spanish in La Coruña Spain In 2010 he spoke on How to Conduct a Study Tour Abroad at Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities workshop held at Mount Mary College Milwaukee January 2010 Professor Borden was inducted into MENSA in January 2010 In the same month he led a 31 day J Term study tour of Spain In 2009 Professor Borden spoke at the Kenosha Civil War Museum as part of Carthage s Humanities Advisory Committee Meeting on Don Quixote s Community Service Success or Failure He gave presentations on Practical Advice for a Successful Study Abroad Experience at the Illinois Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages conference in Lisle Ill and with three Carthage students he spoke about Textbook Creation Accessing Difficult Literature at the national convention of Alpha Mu Gamma Foreign Language Honor Society at Fairfield University in Fairfield Conn Autumn 2009 Professor Borden contributed three articles to Alt Magazine a Milwaukee based quarterly on cultural topics He
