    She also holds a master s degree in Chinese Linguistics from UW Madison She started Japanese study in 1989 She earned a bachelor s degree in Japanese from Beijing Foreign Studies University and a master s degree of Japanese culture from Beijing Center for Japanese Studies From 1996 to 1999 she worked as an assistant professor of Japanese at Beijing Foreign Studies University Prior to coming to the United States

    ballet Today she teaches about those books and many more two miles south of that house on Lake Michigan at Carthage College Dr Ward joined the Carthage Education Faculty in 1990 where she teaches courses in Children s and Young Adult Literature Creative Arts Social Studies Methods Poetry Theatre Gifted and Talented Education and dance She coordinates Carthage s annual Seuss a thon a reading fundraiser and celebration of Dr Seuss She also directs Poetkids Theatre at the Prairie School and Jerstad Elementary School in Racine Dr Ward earned B A s in theatre social studies and education from the University of Wisconsin â Parkside an M A in children s theatre from Northwestern University and a Ph D in Curriculum and Instruction Children s Literature and Gifted and Talented Education from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee She has published books and articles on multicultural literature children s and young adult fiction on disabilities and differences social studies trade books and the integration of children s books and theatre into the science curriculum In 2009 Dr Ward received both the State Student Wisconsin Education Association and the National Student NEA Outstanding Chapter Advisor Awards When she is not traveling all

    the second time at the National Education Association student leadership conference in New Orleans She received the honor in 2009 for her work as advisor to Carthage s Student Wisconsin Education Association chapter She is the first advisor to be recognized two consecutive years Summer 2010 Professor Ward helped organize the 2010 Kenosha Unified School District Battle of the Books This competition for more than 200 fourth and fifth graders seeks to encourage reading More than 70 Carthage education students created and moderated the battles Spring 2010 Professor Ward wrote and directed Wisconsin Calliope a poetry theatre piece which was performed by first through fifth graders at Jerstad Agerholm Elementary School in Racine Wis and by Carthage education students at various elementary schools in Racine and Kenosha Prof Ward presented the 2009 social studies notable trade books at the annual National Council for Social Studies conference in Atlanta She also serves on the Carter G Woodson Book Award committee for NCSS Summer 2009 Professor Ward received a national award for her work advising Carthage s Student WEA organization Prof Ward was named the 2009 Student WEA Advisor of the Year at the National Education Association student leadership conference in San

  • Biography — Gary Williams — Carthage College
    Men football coaching staff from 1997 2007 He received his master s in education also at Carthage in 2002 and his doctorate in leadership for the advancement of learning and service at Cardinal Stritch University in 2010 As associate director of athletics for education services he mentors and guides students through their transition to college life and provides support leadership and direction for student athletes on and off the field Gary also directs the efforts for Carthage s Character Quest program for student athletes a unique teamwork leadership and character experiential program held each summer Gary was instrumental in the efforts to initiate and develop a leadership certificate program at Carthage which began in the fall of 2008 and provides students staff and the community leadership development seminars and coaching sessions throughout the school year In 2011 Williams was selected as commissioner of the Continental Volleyball Conference and as a representative to the NCAA Division III Men s Volleyball National Committee Williams also consults for the NCAA as a presenter to campus athletic departments on topics such as leadership conflict resolution and personal branding He is a co founder of the National Collegiate Speakers Association an active member of Badger
