  • Cadet Life: Music
    to them The 60 piece Battalion Band and the 80 piece Regimental Band perform marches and ceremonial music for military parades on the Washington Parade Field as well as providing entertainment for various ceremonies and lectures The nationally renowned Windjammers Cadet Drum and Bugle Corps provides half time entertainment for all home football games Additionally the Windjammers travel throughout the United States and Canada performing exhibitions and field shows at NFL games and regional band competitions The Cadet Bands Department supports numerous small ensembles such as the Cadet Jazz Band concert band pep band and rock bands The Director of Cadet Bands actively supports the formation of diverse musical groups and schedules public performances for various cadet musical ensembles at the Academy and in the surrounding community For more information please contact CWO3 Ian Frenkel Cadets electing to sing as an extra curricular activity have the opportunity to participate in numerous vocal performing groups The Glee Club travels extensively throughout the country to sing for both public and official functions Cadets also have the opportunity to participate in a select men s ensemble the Idlers or a select women s ensemble the Fairwinds these groups are chosen by audition from members of the Glee Club Rehearsals for all vocal music groups are held in the early evening prior to study hour and after athletic practice time providing cadets with the opportunity to play a sport as well as participate in cadet musical activities In addition to the many performing groups the music department also presents a fully choreographed staged Broadway Musical each year Nearly one hundred cadets participate as cast and crewmembers in the annual production which entertains not only Academy staff and cadets but also has an enthusiastic following from theatergoers all over southeastern Connecticut For more information please

    Resources Sponsor Program Sponsor Family Application 2015 Eligibility FAQs Overview Downloadable Application Religious Program Information Systems Administrative Systems Networks Technology Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program Sports and Leisure One of the more time intensive activities for USCGA cadets is the passionate pursuit of sports and leisure interests The Academy has an active campus culture with an emphasis on academics professional training character development and physical health and wellness Both of the latter are served well by cadets dedication to their sports and leisure clubs and activities Club sports are not included in the USCGA Varsity Athletics program NCAA ECAC NEWMAC All club sports currently receive oversight from the Commandant of Cadets Division and primarily receive NAF funding from the Cadet Activities Fund the Alumni Association and the Parents Association Club sports engage in high level inter collegiate competition and enjoy the support of faithful fans Club sports are primarily cadet led with the oversight of a volunteer faculty or staff advisor coach and are a vibrant and spirited athletic addition to the cadet culture Club Sports Boxing Club Ice Hockey Lacrosse Men s Lacrosse Women s Rugby Men s Rugby Women s Water Polo Women s In addition to

    uniform styles ranging from practical work attire to black tie formal wear to ensure cadets are in appropriate dress for different duty situations and social functions All cadets receive a monthly stipend a portion of which is intended for the purchase and maintenance of their uniforms Tropical Blue Uniform Worn primarily as a warm weather dress uniform first week of April through first week of November the Tropical Blue uniform consists of blue trousers light blue short sleeve shirt respective shoulder boards name tag and ribbons Combination or garrison covers may be worn with this uniform Service Dress Blue SDB The Service Dress Blue uniform is worn at the Academy or on liberty during the winter months For males this uniform includes blue trousers light blue long sleeve dress shirt with shoulder boards tie and tie clip web belt with buckle and SDB jacket with name tag and ribbons For females this uniform may be worn with either blue trousers or the service dress blue skirt and black pumps Women wear the tie tab instead of the tie The combination cover is always worn with this uniform Cadet Parade Dress Blue Full Dress Blue For Regimental Parade this uniform consists of black Bravos or white Alfas also called salt and peppers high rise drill trousers with suspenders and black button down jacket The black trousers are typically worn during fall regimental review while the white are worn in the spring Name tags are not worn with this uniform but white gloves drill belt with buckle and combination covers are Dinner Dress Worn to formal dances and functions the Dinner Dress uniform includes a black or white tuxedo jacket white formal shirt bow tie cummerbund gold studs black bow tie and cuff links for the men and a long black skirt
