    October 2012 September 2012 August 2012 July 2012 June 2012 May 2012 April 2012 March 2012 February 2012 November 2011 cadet blogs Summer in Three Parts The Cadet Experience Class of 2016 Permanent link All Posts Hi everyone I just wanted to give you all an update on what I did during my final summer here at the Academy My summer was broken into three parts first was Inter Collegiate Sailing Nationals second was my time on an 87 cutter and third was an internship at the District One office in Boston Massachusetts Sailing Once again the dinghy team qualified for both Women s and Coed Sailing Nationals We competed against teams from all across the country including Yale Stanford and College of Charleston I stayed and competed for Women s Nationals which was held at the end of May in Newport Rhode Island It was extremely windy and with our light team we did not do as well as we had hoped finishing 11th in the country I left for my 87 cutter based out of the Naval Station in Newport after this event The Coed Nationals were held the week after I left The coed team placed 2nd out of the entire country a huge accomplishment not only for the team that was there but also for those who were already at their summer assignments We are super excited about this finish and hope to do just as well if not better at Nationals next year CGC Tiger Shark After Women s Nationals I headed straight to my cutter which wasn t a far drive since the competition s location was right next to my cutter I spent two weeks aboard the CGC Tiger Shark in Newport Rhode Island While there I got to see a few fisheries

    August 2013 July 2013 June 2013 May 2013 April 2013 March 2013 February 2013 January 2013 December 2012 November 2012 October 2012 September 2012 August 2012 July 2012 June 2012 May 2012 April 2012 March 2012 February 2012 November 2011 cadet blogs Militarily Academically Athletically Academics Athletics Class of 2016 Permanent link All Posts Hi everyone I m so sorry that it has been so long since I have written last my semester has been one of the busiest I have had so far I ll give you a little look at what I ve been up to last semester militarily academically and athletically Militarily Last semester I was the Support MAA for Foxtrot Company This position helps the Guidon train the 4 c as well as helps the 1 c Support Department Head with their duties With this responsibility I worked with the 4 c and I answered questions and supported the Guidon with their roles This was a great experience for me because I got to learn about my own leadership style and figure out ways to improve it Academically This was my best semester yet academically I took very interesting major specific classes I took Fisheries Biology where I learned everything I could ever want to know about fish and took an awesome field trip to Mystic Aquarium I took Ocean Dynamics where I learned about how water travels in the ocean and the physics behind it The last MES class that I took was GIS or Geographic Information Systems This is a class where you create a map using computer software that you can then use to spatially analyze data It was one of my favorite classes that I have taken and at the end of the course we got to work in groups and solve

    2013 March 2013 February 2013 January 2013 December 2012 November 2012 October 2012 September 2012 August 2012 July 2012 June 2012 May 2012 April 2012 March 2012 February 2012 November 2011 cadet blogs A Super Busy Summer The Cadet Experience Class of 2016 Permanent link All Posts Hi Everyone Sorry it s been so long since I lasted posted but I have had a super busy summer Here s just a little taste at some of the things I did 1 The week after finals the Class of 2016 participated in 100th week This marks the halfway point of our time here at the Academy Cape May Company Commanders come to the Academy and remind us of what it feels like to be a swab and teach us ways to instruct our swabs to prepare them for the Coast Guard At the conclusion of this week we officially became 2 c cadets 2 I also took my Rules of the Road ROTR test Every 2 c has to take a weeklong course explaining the rules that ships have concerning right of way So it s basically like a driving test but for boats For example sailboats have right of way over powerboats We also had to memorize all the lights that different types of boats have At the end of this week we took a 50 question test that in order to pass we must earn a 90 3 After these two weeks I participated in Summer Ocean racing again This year we competed in the Newport Bermuda Race The race took us five days to complete due to the lack of wind for the majority of the race This was an amazing experience and I had a lot of fun 4 The final thing I did this summer was
