  • “CIU Today” Wins Award | Columbia International University
    magazine category for Faith Based Colleges and Universities The Collegiate Advertising Awards recognize today s most talented marketing professionals for outstanding excellence in all forms of advertising marketing and promotion specific to higher education products and services Entries are reviewed by a panel of experienced design and education marketing professionals and are judged on Creativity Layout Design Typography Production Quality Overall Effectiveness The winning entry the October 2014 edition of CIU Today was also the very first edition of the magazine which combines two former CIU publications the in depth features of Connection and the alumni updates of Upward CIU Today Editor in Chief Bob Holmes says it is a special blessing to have the inaugural edition of the magazine recognized nationally I was quite surprised when we received the news Holmes said We were competing with other faith based colleges and universities who publish quality magazines I know because I ve read some of them and I m impressed with their work Holmes says the quality of the magazine is a reflection of the hard work of many people especially designer Seth Berry and Alumni Editor Peggy Lee Manoogian as well as a staff of CIU student writers and

  • Men’s Golf Coach Announced | Columbia International University
    University of South Carolina in the early 1980s After college he pursued a professional golfing career teaching golf and implementing golf related entrepreneurial and educational endeavors for over 25 years Bryan created the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission Golf Program and was instrumental in various golf initiatives in South Carolina schools through the South Carolina Junior Golf Association SCJGA He also created the George Bryan Golf Academy located at various golf courses throughout the Midlands helping juniors and adults improve their game In addition Bryan has been an adjunct professor in the physical education department at the University of South Carolina CIU Athletics Director Kim Abbott says CIU is privileged to have Bryan as he readies for CIU s inaugural golf season this fall George Bryan not only has the knowledge and passion for golf but his love of the Lord and his desire to create a CIU team that will serve God through the game of golf makes him a perfect fit for CIU and its mission Abbott said As for Bryan he says coaching at CIU is what he has been looking for at this point in his life I ve been praying for an opportunity over the last

    week Womack challenged the CIU community to live as mission driven ministers fulfilling the Great Commission of Matthew 28 God has called us to go and make disciples Womack said in Monday s chapel It takes time to make disciples It takes teaching to make disciples People are not born with solid doctrine The week also featured spoken word poetry and gospel music instead of the usual contemporary worship style heard in many CIU chapels I loved the worship this week junior Anna Knight said I experienced the presence of the Lord especially through the honest free and humble spirit of our leaders For Tuesday s chapel Womack challenged the CIU community to know Christ more deeply and to live in victory through Him How can we settle for a mediocre life he asked Christ came that we might have life and have it more abundantly Womack deviated from his planned message on Wednesday to help students cope with the devastating news that a fellow student was in intensive care at the hospital The student went to be with the Lord the following morning His message titled Taking Care of the Mystery What to Do When God Doesn t Make Sense encouraged students to trust God even in the midst of grief and pain God knows exactly what He s doing Womack preached God knows exactly where you are Students found great comfort and solidarity both from Womack s message and the time of corporate worship The message was just a huge reminder that life isn t about me but that God still cares He still holds me in His hands and every step I take is because He has directed it freshman Leilani McGowan said Nothing that happens in this journey is a mistake and He hasn t forgotten
