    delivering dirt from an area near the Ben Lippen softball field to the site for the new parking lot Click image to view a larger version A new load of wood is delivered to Petty Residence Hall Petty and Walker Residence Halls are undergoing interior renovations this summer Click image to view a larger version Construction of the new parking lot looking north from International Boulevard June 05 2013 It reminds you of activity on an ant hill Construction equipment scurries here and there carrying dirt dumping dirt digging holes filling holes in a synchronized choreography that will lead to a new parking lot along the north side of Columbia International University s entrance International Boulevard just behind the Alumni Center It s all a part of the summer of construction and renovation on the campus of CIU The parking lot will provide needed vehicle space for commuting students and for guests attending community events that take place at CIU and at Ben Lippen CIU s Pre K to 12th grade Christian school In addition the interior of Petty and Walker residence halls are being completely renovated over the summer including the student rooms and hall baths The work is

    campers at CIU s first day of basketball camp May 31 2013 Great fun good competition and personalized instruction are the focus of three sports camps this summer at Columbia International University CIU Soccer Coach James Whitaker hosted the first ever CIU Boys Soccer Camp in early June For four days players ages 5 17 experienced high quality individual instruction and learned the fundamentals of the game and skill development from an experienced camp staff including specialized goalkeeper training Competitive tournaments and matches were a highlight of the week The CIU Boys and Girls Basketball Camp for children in first through eighth grade featured three days of basketball fundamentals and skill development The camp focused on the skill level of each child and worked toward improving their abilities Daily sessions consisted of a combination of instruction demonstrations drills skill station work and games The camp was led by CIU Rams Men s Basketball Coach Kyle Mendenhall and CIU Rams Women s Basketball Coach Tammy Holder The CIU Cross Country Camp is July 22 24 for seventh to twelfth graders and features basic biomechanics nutrition and goal setting as well as training tips from CIU Rams Cross Country Coach Jud Brooker

  • CIU Student to Swim around Key West – Again | Columbia International University
    goal is to absorb as much of the teaching as I can and allow God to apply it to my life But before he does any more studying Haselden has another ambition on June 8 he plans to swim 12 5 miles around Key West Fla for the seventh time He has swum the annual event in as little as 5 hours and 47 minutes fighting the tides and tropical storms More than an annual physical challenge the Swim Around Key West has turned into a missions trip for Haselden He says the race director is a local pastor with an evangelistic outreach to the swimmers I have the distinct privilege to be involved in ministries there he adds Haselden who draws spiritual applications from his pursuits of endurance remembers his first Swim Around Key West About a mile into the swim he says the winds kicked up and it began to rain so hard that I could not see the shore I had no idea which way I was swimming Each swimmer is accompanied by a kayaker for Haselden it was a personal friend who was having his own troubles dealing with the six foot swells But through it all I knew my kayaker was still with me Haselden said He would be riding up on a swell and I would be at the bottom of a swell As we passed each other he often hit me with his paddle by mistake I could hear his muffled cry Sorry Several times I stopped to tread water to try to site for land Each time I got a big wave in my face and choked So I kept swimming in the direction I hoped was correct At least when I was swimming I wasn t choking The storm went on
