    colorful view Click image to view a larger version CIU Grounds Superintendent Norm Stewart holds the Choice Award has he stands at the beautiful landscaped entrance to CIU Click image to view a larger version November 30 2012 Columbia International University is a winner in the 2012 Columbia Choice Awards recognizing landscaping and beautification The awards are presented by Columbia Green and the city of Columbia s Tree Appearance Commission Columbia Green is a non profit organization promoting beautification of the Columbia area through landscaping gardening horticulture education and conservation CIU was recognized in the Site Beautification Management category which recognizes property that has over time and in all seasons demonstrated a commitment to excellence in maintenance landscape design consistency of visual appeal and enhancement of Columbia s surroundings The judges noted that the CIU landscaping is planned to present a pleasing and colorful view no matter what the season Using a wide variety of plant material adds to the attractiveness of the borders The lawns are well manicured and add to the serenity of the campus CIU Grounds Superintendent Norm Stewart says winning the award means a lot to the CIU grounds crew We go to a lot of

  • Two December Commencements at CIU | Columbia International University
    m in Shortess Chapel on CIU s main campus The second begins at 1 30 p m at Kirkland Correctional Institution just across the Broad River from CIU where student inmates enrolled in the CIU Prison Initiative program will graduate At the main campus on Monticello Road CIU President Dr Bill Jones will confer degrees on nearly 125 graduates from CIU s five colleges who have earned degrees from Associate to Doctorate Jones will then travel to Kirkland where 14 student inmates will receive Associate of Arts degrees This is the fourth cohort of student inmates to graduate from the Prison Initiative They will join 44 CIU Prison Initiative alumni assigned to prisons across South Carolina as chaplain s assistants The commencement speaker on the main campus will be former CIU President Dr Johnny Miller Miller served as president from 1991 to 1999 and currently teaches in CIU Seminary School of Ministry He has also served as a pastor and missionary and is a published author At the main campus commencement CIU will also award an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree to Dr H Wilbert Norton Norton is a retired missionary and educator who served for more than a decade

    image to view a larger version Teaching the book of Esther in Belize November 27 2012 Study tours at Columbia International University prepare students to share God s heart for the world These credit bearing courses expose students to the sights sounds and practices of other cultures as they see God at work in a variety of contexts Some examples of study tours include a two week tour of Europe that is part of the Humanities program CIU also offers an Israel study tour in partnership Jerusalem University College where classroom instruction supplements field study in archeology and geography The International Student Teaching Practicum in Belize provides students with a teaching opportunity in an international setting The most recent trip to Belize included 20 students from the Bible Teaching program and the Master of Arts in Teaching program But it was also an opportunity for Communication major Seth McCain to put his video skills to work McCain called the trip a neat experience as he traveled to two locations in Belize to shoot and produce a video about the trip Not only did I shoot video of my colleagues teaching in their classrooms I had an opportunity to teach McCain

    Shue the chairman and president of SDSC Global Foundation and CentriHall Chinese Christian Education Services non profits focusing on high quality evangelical theological education through e learning The Rev James Dixon has been in ministry for 35 years and has pastored five churches He currently serves as pastor of El Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Washington Md Dixon has been involved with the SBC at the national state and local level Dixon also currently serves as vice president of the Centre Point Counseling Center in Maryland and is the director of the Antioch Institute that trains African American leaders in establishing self supporting churches Dixon is originally from Alabama and received an Associate of Science degree from Lawson State Junior College and a Bachelor s degree from Samford University both in Birmingham Ala He is also a graduate of Howard University School of Divinity in Washington D C where he received a Master of Divinity Degree Chikong Shue has an extensive background in computer science and network operations Prior to his current nonprofit work Shue was the executive vice president at Sycamore Networks and co founder and vice president at Cascade Communications Both start ups had successful IPOs on NASDAQ
