    Named to CIU Board Click image to view a larger version Marion Hill Davis March 02 2012 A Columbia area businessman and church elder is the newest member of the Columbia International University Board of Trustees Marion Hill Davis of Chapin was elected to the board at its February meeting Davis is the president of Bilt Rite Corporation Overhead Door Company of Columbia andvice president of the Marwin Company in Columbia manufacturer of specialized stairways mirrors doors and door frames Davis is a graduate of A C Flora High School Newberry College and has a Doctor of Humane Letters from Columbia International University He is also a veteran of the United States Air Force Davis is active in his church and the community He is member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia where he serves as a member of the Local Missions Committee Davis is also a member of the State Board of Child Evangelism Fellowship a board member of Missionary Resources of Columbia and a long term board member of Ben Lippen School a ministry of Columbia International University Davis has been married to Kate S Davis for 42 years They have three adult children Davis says he is

    the director of the CIU Youth Ministry Family Culture Program greets a guest at the Resource Conference Click image to view a larger version Vendors at the Resource Conference offered youth oriented products and services to the youth ministers February 27 2012 By Tim Caiello CIU Student Writer Columbia International University not only trains future leaders but also equips current leaders That s why the Youth Ministry Family Culture Department at CIU hosted a two day Resource Conference for youth ministry leaders in February The highlight of the Resource Conference was guest speaker Stuart Hall from Atlanta Hall is best known for his work with the Orange a youth ministry curriculum designed to better integrate parents into the youth ministry setting He is also known for his work with DASH Inc a non profit organization focused specifically on training students to be peer influences Many at the conference concurred with Hall that one of the prime challenges facing youth ministers is overlooking the role of parents Hall said that his views of parental involvement shifted dramatically when his own children become teenagers Parents as the primary influencers in their children s lives should ideally be the first line of input

  • Columbia Mayor Visits CIU Prison Initiative | Columbia International University
    an awesome responsibility and opportunity Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin toured the facilities of the CIU program that trains qualified South Carolina inmates to minister throughout the state prison system as they earn a CIU Associate of Arts degree The program is housed at the Kirkland Correctional Institution part of a sprawling prison facility just across the Broad River from CIU s main campus in Columbia Benjamin spoke to over two dozen CIU student inmates about the importance of their work He told them about his Christian faith and the influence of his parents and grandparents in fostering that faith The mayor also reminded the student inmates that sharing the Word of God and proselytizing is important because a closer relationship with the Lord and Savior will help many people over the challenges they face Benjamin also praised CIU as such a wonderful part of the fabric of this community The mayor s remarks were followed by a question and answer time with the student inmates They told the mayor that they pray for him and encouraged him to support mentoring programs for troubled youth in the community to keep them out of a life of crime They also asked him

    left and President Bill Jones Click image to view a larger version After receiving the Kingdom Impact Award Adrian Despres preaches a St Valentine s Day message on God s love February 15 2012 He may be one of the best preachers you ll ever hear That s what University of South Carolina Coach Steve Spurrier says about Adrian Despres the guest chaplain of Spurrier s Gamecocks football team Spurrier made a brief surprise appearance at the Feb 14 Chapel of Columbia International University to congratulate Despres as he was being honored with the annual Kingdom Impact Award from CIU s Alumni Ministries The Kingdom Impact Award recognizes a CIU alumnus or alumna who serves in a high profile and very public ministry and whose life vibrantly reflects the five core values of CIU Authority of Scripture Victorious Christian Living World Evangelization Prayer Faith and Evangelical Unity Despres is a 1992 graduate of CIU Seminary School of Ministry In addition to chaplaincy ministry to the Gamecocks Despres has spoken to over one million people in two decades as an evangelist with Kingdom Building Ministries He also serves on the CIU Board of Trustees In congratulating Despres Spurrier noted that his late father attended CIU when it was called Columbia Bible College The Rev J Graham Spurrier graduated in 1938 before going into the ministry Spurrier said that next to his dad Despres is the most passionate enthusiastic sincere preacher And that s what he is he s a preacher Spurrier continued He preaches the Word the gospel what we all need to hear Despres who was not notified ahead of time that he was to receive the award was also surprised to see that his wife and children were in the audience I had absolutely no idea about this Despres
