    the finger of his fiancee Bonnie Batson as the couple stands on the Cliffs of Arbel July 11 2011 Dr Bryan Beyer has guided CIU students on 12 trips to the land of the Bible But this summer as Beyer led the students to the Cliffs of Arbel overlooking the Sea of Galilee love was in the air There clinical counseling student Casey Lee proposed to seminary student Bonnie Batson Bonnie was taken quite by surprise but joyfully accepted Casey s proposal Lee and Batson were among 20 CIU students on the three week study tour of Israel Beyer interim associate dean of the CIU College of Arts and Sciences literally took the students from Dan to Beersheva the biblical expression for Israel s northern and southern borders and many places beyond that A special treat this year was that much of the central region of ancient Samaria was open and students were able to visit many places that had not been open since 1999 including Shechem where Joshua challenged Israel choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve in Joshua 24 Also open was Sychar where Jesus met the woman at the well in John 4 Beyer says

    view a larger version Dr Milt Uecker decks Dr Connie Mitchell with the Beads of Authority Click image to view a larger version Dr Milt Uecker right caps new CIU Provost James Lanper as high commander in chief July 01 2011 Graduate students in the Columbia International University School of Education capped off weeks of intensive summer studies with a bit of fun Students who are finishing their on campus studies toward graduate level Education degrees are recognized and capped in a traditional tongue in cheek ceremony by the associate dean of the College of Education Calling it rational nonsense this year outgoing College of Education Associate Dean Dr Milt Uecker ceremoniously place a baseball style cap on the head of each of the qualifying students Uecker also took a necklace of beads from around his neck and placed them over the head of the new College of Education Associate Dean Dr Connie Mitchell calling them The Beads of Authority Uecker will continue as an adjunct professor at CIU In a surprise to everyone new CIU Provost Dr Jim Lanpher was also capped with a Navy captain s cap Uecker called it the installation of our new high commander in

  • An Unusual Place to Celebrate a Baseball Victory | Columbia International University
    Cocky the University of South Carolina mascot on the Sea of Galilee June 30 2011 The state of South Carolina is abuzz after the University of South Carolina Gamecocks won back to back national baseball championships But one of Columbia International University s biggest baseball fans was not in the state to celebrate he wasn t even in the country The interim dean of the CIU College of Arts Sciences Dr Bryan Beyer was leading a study tour of CIU students in Israel But once word of the Gamecocks victory reached The Holy Land Beyer and former University of South Carolina student Jenni Russo did the best they could to celebrate They got out Cocky the University of South Carolina mascot who was on the trip with them and took a few photos of him on the Sea of Galilee They then sent the photos to a South Carolina TV station to show that folks from South Carolina were celebrating everywhere The photo shows Cocky on a boat with the Cliffs of Arbel in the background For more on the Cliffs of Arbel check out CIU s Ancient Sandals Web site Each year CIU s Travelearn takes students on study
