  • Dr. Dan DeLozier Honored with Excellence in Teaching Award | Columbia International University
    and Dr Pat Blewett dean of the CIU College of Arts and Sciences April 08 2011 The director of Columbia International University s Communication program is one of 20 professors from South Carolina s private colleges to be honored with an Excellence in Teaching Award Dr Dan DeLozier was recognized for his dedication to teaching and learning at the 6 th Annual Excellence in Teaching Awards Dinner sponsored by the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities SCICU The ceremony was part of S C Independent College and University Week observed April 4 8 This year s award recipients demonstrated a remarkable blend of scholarship passion commitment and the ability to motivate students to new heights said Sara Fisher chair of the SCICU Board of Trustees CIU President Dr Bill Jones says DeLozier s approach to his profession made him an ideal candidate for the honor Dr DeLozier is a diligent professor and his commitment to excellence inside and outside the classroom provides an example of the quality of our undergraduate faculty Jones said Each of the 20 member institutions of the SCICU consortium selects one faculty member each year to receive the award which includes a professional development stipend of

  • Former NFL Coach Joe Gibbs Shares the Gospel at CIU | Columbia International University
    of all and you want to be on the winning side That was Gibbs message to nearly 500 people at a lunch in the Moore Fitness Center on the campus of Columbia International University March 29 And Gibbs knows something about winning Gibbs led the NFL s Washington Redskins to three Super Bowl Championships and as a NASCAR team owner Gibbs has won three NASCAR Cup Series Championships But Gibbs says if you want to win at the game of life you need a good coach He says he got on the side of the winning coach when he gave his life to Christ at age nine He says it was the most important decision of his life deciding whether he was an accident of evolution as explained to him in school or created by God as taught him by his family and pastor A loving God He made this world he knit me together in my mother s womb He made me special and different and wanted me to have a personal relationship with Him Gibbs explained Gibbs shared some of the victories and defeats in his sports career and family life He admitted that some of the defeats were brought on by not following the Bible including problems with diabetes and near bankruptcy But he said no mess is too big for God I don t care what your mess is it can be a relationship it can be an addiction it can be finances Gibbs said Nothing is too big for God if we re on God s team As Gibbs compared life to a football game he cautioned that God says there are only two teams in life You either play with Him forever or you play against Him forever Gibbs said OK think about that

    Lake Click image to view a larger version Students faculty and staff pause for prayer Click image to view a larger version The Chapel at the lake concluded with a cookout March 28 2011 By Abbey Shoemaker CIU Student Writer Calling it a celebration of God s goodness the Columbia International University family came together to glorify God for all He has done on behalf of the school over the past few years and revel in His creation The March 22 chapel was held at the renovated CIU lake and pavilion area which had been closed for several months due to construction It was a beautiful sunny and warm day with flowers budding and new foliage on the trees Dr Ronald Kroll the head of CIU s reaccreditation committee reviewed the recent reaffirmation of CIU s accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools SACS saying We thank the Lord because He s brought us to this point Vice President for Development and Operations Keith Marion updated students on the progress of the Pine View Apartments residence hall renovations and library reconstruction Referring to last May s blaze in the G Allen Fleece Library Marion said It s exciting

  • CIU Seminary & School of Missions to Expand Atlanta Site | Columbia International University
    Columbia International University Seminary School of Missions has won approval from its accrediting agency for a strategic initiative The Association of Theological Schools ATS has approved the school s request to expand course offerings at its Atlanta extension site The associate dean of CIU Seminary School of Missions Dr John Harvey says offering more classes at the Atlanta site means students no longer have to travel to Columbia to take their resident courses providing easier access to classes We are currently offering a limited number of seminary courses in Atlanta in intensive format in January and June Harvey said We plan to expand gradually over the next few years with an eye to offering weekend courses on a regular basis as well He says ultimately the goal is to make it possible for students to earn a complete degree through the Atlanta site The Atlanta classes of CIU Seminary School of Missions are held at Evangeline Booth College of the Salvation Army Southeastern Territorial Headquarters Located 20 minutes from the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport the Continuing Education Center provides state of the art classrooms WIFI access guest rooms and access to both a full service dining facility and a

  • CIU Announces Mascot; Prepares for Intercollegiate Athletics | Columbia International University
    Director Kim Abbott lead a cheer Click image to view a larger version Students faculty and staff received a CIU Rams T shirt March 24 2011 The Columbia International University mascot was unveiled to the student body during a Chapel service on March 24 as CIU prepares to play intercollegiate athletics beginning with the fall 2012 semester CIU President Dr Bill Jones and Athletic Director Kim Abbott announced that CIU athletic teams will be known as The Rams The Ram was chosen as the CIU mascot for its strength and for its biblical significance Abbott said Not only are they known as ferocious defenders of their territory and their flock the ram is a symbol of God s provision a foreshadowing of Christ s sacrifice on the cross It was also announced that CIU will play in the National Christian College Athletic Association NCCAA whose mission is to use athletic competition as an integral component of education evangelism and encouragement Athletics at CIU offers a way for students to draw closer to God through the rigors of training and the grind of competition Abbott said But it also opens the door for more venues for ministry locally and across the
