  • CIU to Host Workshop on Premarital and Marriage Counseling | Columbia International University
    one day workshop on PREPARE ENRICH on the campus of Columbia International University on Thursday March 31 in CIU s Alumni Center PREPARE ENRICH is one of the most widely used inventories and programs for premarital and marriage counseling The workshop will certify individuals to use the PREPARE ENRICH instrument and implement the training program Temple holds a master s degree in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina and also graduated from CIU with a master s in Counseling She is a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a charter member of the American Association of Christian Counselors She is also a licensed supervisor She is certified by Life Innovations Inc to train others to use the inventory and program PREPARE ENRICH is a customized couple assessment completed online that identifies a couple s strength and growth areas Based on a couple s assessment results a trained facilitator provides four to eight feedback sessions in which the facilitator helps the couple discuss and understand their results as they are taught proven relationship skills Over three million couples have taken the PREPARE ENRICH Program since it began in 1980 The inventories have been

    Mary Lowe executive director of ACCESS Click image to view a larger version Dr Shirl Schiffman developed the award winning course Foundations for Spiritual Formation March 23 2011 The Distance Education and Media Development DEMD department of Columbia International University is the winner of two national awards for innovative online learning The Course of the Year Awards are sponsored by ACCESS the Christian Distance Education Association and Christianity Today International in recognition of excellence in Christian distance education course development Courses are reviewed by a team of instructional designers from Christian universities and seminaries Judging is based on instructional design media materials development and learner support CIU s newly developed graduate level course Foundations of Spiritual Formation was recognized for blending face to face teaching and learning with online technologies It was developed by Professor Dr Shirl Schiffman and was commended for its excellent forum interaction video quality webinars strong social presence and interactive credibility The course was augmented by the video production of Ken Summerall the production manager for DEMD The second CIU course recognized was Apologetics an undergraduate level course designed by Professor Dr Daniel Janosik It also combines traditional classroom learning with online technology Apologetics was recognized

  • World Christian Week: God’s Plan, Your Part | Columbia International University
    10 2011 By Abbey Shoemaker CIU Student Writer God s Plan Your Part was the theme of this year s World Christian Week an annual conference emphasizing CIU s core value of World Evangelization Chancellor George Murray was the featured chapel speaker with his wife Annette addressing the students on Wednesday Through a series of simple messages on God s heart for the world Dr and Mrs Murray challenged students to be obedient to His calling on their lives The disobedience of God s people is keeping the world from being evangelized explained Dr Murray Students were given the opportunity to respond to chapel messages by committing to pray daily for one of the unreached countries where CIU alumni are not currently serving to become more involved in sharing their faith here and now or to train for a vocation that will open doors to an unreached country or people group In conjunction with daily chapel messages worship was led by Proskuneo a band which promotes unity in the body of Christ through multicultural multilingual worship gatherings A jam session with Proskuneo took place on Wednesday night in the Moore Fitness Center as students brought their own instruments and joined in some unplugged acoustic jamming Proskuneo held a worship concert which was open to the community on Friday evening In addition to daily prayer times after chapel a prayer tent was set up on campus and students were encouraged to sign up for a 20 minute slot in which they would pray for one country From 7 a m until midnight Monday through Friday students were in the tent praying specifically for every country in the world By midnight on Friday CIU students had prayed for the entire world in five days Various missions organizations had booths set up in

    DeLozier chats with a dad at the Majors Market Click image to view a larger version No CIU Preview Day is complete without pizza March 09 2011 By Lenae Simpson CIU Student Writer It was Miss Peacock with the revolver in the Conservatory guessed one of the players All eight of us stood in the Library and watched closely as Professor Plum looked through his cards As a bullhorn sounded our group left the Library and moved into the Ballroom approaching Miss Scarlet We CIU students and prospective students were playing a live game of Clue The Freshman Leadership Team had taken over an academic building and turned its rooms into a life sized game board But playing Clue was only one of the CIU experiences for 46 prospective students at CIU Undergraduate Preview Days March 3 and 4 The high schoolers slept in the residence halls observed classes and had lunch with professors At the luncheon students learned that Andre Rogers a professor at CIU for the past 12 years teaches at CIU because he is passionate about teaching and preaching the Scriptures Carrie Caudill is a professor because she wants psychology students to be academically prepared and spiritually aware Representing the Youth Ministry program Dr Karen Grant expressed her hope of sending well equipped youth ministers around the world After the luncheon the prospective students mingled with professors at a Major s Market Tours of the campus meetings with the financial aid personnel and a panel discussion allowed students to see into the heart of CIU Preview Day wrapped up with a time of worship led by Proskuneo a multi lingual praise band Prospective student Carrie Ann Bowden made the trip from North Carolina for Preview Days noting that the visit helped her get a feel of the

  • CIU Students set up Prayer Tent on Campus | Columbia International University
    International University students have set up a prayer tent on campus and are praying for the nations of the world nearly non stop this week The Prayer for the Nations is part of the annual World Christian Week at CIU During the student organized World Christian Week CIU focuses on its core value of World Evangelization reaching every nation with the message of Jesus Christ An important part of that task involves another CIU core value Prayer Faith At the Prayer Tent students sign up to pray during 20 minute slots between 7 a m and midnight A different nation of the world is assigned to the slot The tent was set up and is being managed by Mu Kappa a campus organization of Missionary Kids or MKs students whose parents are missionaries Heading up the Prayer Tent is senior Chris Stevanus of Mu Kappa whose parents serve as missionaries in Italy While he s confident God will use the prayers to move people s hearts around the world Stevanus is hoping the prayers will make an impact on campus I pray that God will do a work in the hearts of the students to see the burden of people
