    of interest to Twitter using the hashtag CUEdTech We encourage Colgate faculty and students contribute to our feed which you can do if you Search Twitter for CUEdTech or view below CUEdTech Tweets Tech on Tap Informal faculty poster sessions highlighting some of their classroom innovation Teaching with Technology Spotlight Robert Garland VisLab Murder on the Ides The Ho Tung Visualization Lab in coordination with the Classics department presented Murder on the Ides March 44 BCE was the most infamous day in Roman history It s the day when the most celebrated Roman of all time Gaius Julius Caesar was brutally murdered by assassins Combined with green screen technology and fulldome animations Colgate students staff and faculty produced this full dome show to uncover the mysteries surrounding this fateful day Narrated by Classics professor Robert Garland Aisha Musa Wikipedia Student Authoring RELG310 Islamic Jurisprudence Students used what they learned from course readings class discussions and research to contribute to and improve Wikipedia content related to the course subject matter Over the semester students worked in groups to identify relevant Wikipedia articles compare Wikipedia articles to other reference sources choose an article to edit study and critique the article to identify what to contribute and finally to present their contributions in class and submit them to Wikipedia Karen Harpp Google Earth Geology Peace Conflict Studies Students used Google Earth to create maps and geographic visualization tools in Geology and Peace Conflict Studies courses Hazard maps of active volcanoes were constructed by volcanology students Students in Megageology created student designed Google Earth flyovers of geological sites and and an illustrated online field guide was created by an extended study trip to Chilean volcanoes In the Weapons and War course students learned data management spreadsheet and map making skills by investigating the global

    your draft for errors before your visit If you need to cancel or will be a few minutes late call the Writing Center at x6085 If you are more than 10 minutes late we will give your appointment to someone else If you no show twice without calling to cancel you will lose appointment privileges for the semester though you can still have walk in sessions All appointments are strictly confidential If a professor refers you to the Writing Center he or she will receive an acknowledgement that you visited but the details of the session will remain confidential Under no circumstance will we do a quick check of a paper right before a deadline The more time you leave before a due date the more we can help IMPORTANT The Writing and Speaking Center is not a computer lab the printer and computers are reserved for use only during appointments Thank you for understanding Mission Serving undergraduates at Colgate the Writing and Speaking Center is committed to the improvement of writers of all levels and abilities Our peer consultants work with writers from all disciplines at any stage of the writing process We recognize that a student s visit to the center indicates a motivation to write and we in turn are motivated to work with the writer who comes to see us The center aims to build confident and accomplished writers by helping students develop strong cognitive and composing skills We approach students texts as works in progress and we think of writing first as a method for the discovery and development of ideas The primary objective of any session is that the writer not necessarily the text will be changed The center adheres firmly to the university honor code as outlined in the student handbook We do

    Speaking Center Work for Us Apply to Work with Us The Writing and Speaking Center has openings for new peer consultants to begin each fall Applications are due each year on the Friday before Spring Recess in March Menu Menu Qualifications Eligibility In addition to demonstrating strong writing or speaking skills peer consultants are personable reliable and able to help others learn Current first year students sophomores and juniors are eligible Students from all majors are encouraged to apply Consultants must be able to work a minimum of 5 hours week maximum 12 hours preferably broken into at least 2 weekly evening shifts of 2 or 3 hours each evening is between 4 00 and 10 00pm Writing consultants must maintain a 3 0 minimum GPA Applications are accepted only in March for work the following academic year students who will be abroad in the fall should apply in March 2016 for work in Spring 2017 How to Apply For instructions and a list of required materials please download an WSC Application Form and Instructions or pick one up in the Writing Speaking Center 208 Lathrop Hall Application materials should be dropped off in the mailbox of Professor J Lutman in Suite 213 Lathrop Hall by 5 00 p m on the Friday before Spring Recess March 11 2016 Academic writing samples required of writing consultant applicants only and transcripts may be e mailed to Professor Lutman separately rather than printed please see the application form for further instructions Applicants selected for first round interviews will be notified by April 1 Final hiring decisions will be made before exam week in May If you have any questions please e mail Professor Lutman or call her at 315 228 7376 Centers and Institutes Center for Freedom and Western Civilization Center for
