    us to a different place One close friend said Diane opened my eyes to living the life of someone of color She did that for many of us Never in a harsh way But never a gloss Colgate prepared me for the real world Ciccone told the group at Riverside 18 years ago The reality is that it s tough out there By generously sharing her wisdom and experience she s worked to make it less tough for those who followed her An early president of the Alumni of Color she forged programs that make alumni available to students as a resource when questions arise about their lives their educations and their careers And her influence has extended far more broadly After two years on the Alumni Council Diane was elected to the Board of Trustees where she served two terms and chaired the board s Legal Affairs and Insurance Committee She served on the Women s Advisory Committee reunion planning committees and organized class gifts She s volunteered for campaigns advised students on their careers hosted interns and created a fund to support the ALANA Cultural Center With husband Daryl McMillan she raised daughter Kali who became a member of the Class of 2010 thereby providing Dian yet another perspective on Colgate For all that you continue to mean to your alma mater Diane Ciccone it is a pleasure to present you with the Wm Brian Little 64 Award for Distinguished Service Students Students who reside in the commons are immersed in a living learning environment that encourages the continuation of learning beyond classroom hours Residents will truly be pioneers by developing traditions to establish community for generations to come First year students Around 200 first year students live and learn as a part of the commons in Curtis and Drake All of the first year students are enrolled in one of twelve first year seminars some of which are held in Curtis or Drake Sophomore students Roughly 200 sophomore students including members of three sophomore residential seminars are a part of the commons in Curtis and Drake A small number of sophomores live in the annex at 100 Broad St Junior and senior students A number of upper level students serve as peer mentors embedded within the commons in Curtis and Drake These community leaders live in residence halls with first year and sophomore residents while others reside in the affiliated community annex at 100 Broad St Facilities Curtis Hall and Drake Hall Residence Curtis Hall and Drake Hall are the homes on the hill for Colgate s first residential commons in 2015 16 The commons is led by faculty staff duo Rebecca and Mark Shiner Most of the rooms in Curtis Hall are double bedrooms with the exception of six suites while Drake features a variety of room types though most are traditional doubles as well Every floor has a student lounge or common space and laundry facilities are located in the basements of each hall Curtis
