    We ve also updated these areas to reflect the new folder structure and management options Teachers and students enrolled in a Writing Studio class can upload store share and download a variety of files in these areas Web Links Updates to this area enable you to organize links into folders This gives you the opportunity to add a link to a main list which is not in a folder put a link in a folder by adding it or moving it create new folders for links and change the folders display order Cloning You can now create copies or clones of any of your classes which should be helpful to those of you teaching multiple sections of the same class either during the same session or over the course of consecutive semesters When cloning a class you can list yourself as the instructor for the new class you can assign another person to be the instructor or you can assign another person as instructor and list yourself as a co instructor All of the basic information for the class can be copied Optionally you can select only the specific materials you want to copy Please note that the class roster class blogs co instructors and class groups will not be copied to the new class Importing You can use this option to import various materials such as your Assignments or Web Links or an entire calendar with all its entries from another class Gradebook An upgrade to the class gradebook gives instructors the ability to organize assignments into categories and assign an overall grade to that category This is useful for homework in class work small group projects and so on Calendar An update to the calendar add entry function allows for faster processing times when adding a new entry

    interests For example you ll find collections of resources for writing fiction poetry and nonfiction collections for courses such as COCC150 College Composition at CSU and Academic Writing at the University of Twente in the Netherlands and collections of resources for writing in the professions and disciplines such as our Business Writing Collection and our Writing in Engineering Collection Because the collections are completely database driven we can easily create new collections If you d like us to create a collection for your discipline for a course or for a particular type of writing please let us know Simpler More Comprehensive Navigation Tools We ve simplified the site s overall navigation and extended the ability to customize the look and feel of the Studio to the entire Writing CSU site The main menu available throughout the site is the primary means of moving throughout the site You ll also find navigation headers and tables of contents in specific resources such as the Writing Guides In addition in an effort to reduce the clutter on our pages we re using options menus for many of the writing tools These menus appear as small icons You can open them by moving your mouse over them New and Better Writing Tools We ve simplified the Working Bibliography and Notes tool added the ability to link memos in the Ideas tool and added a new Outlining tool Improved Course Management Teachers will find the updated Writing Studio class pages easier to manage New features include the ability to hide and show assignments and writing materials and the ability to add links to all of the instructional resources on Writing CSU Other changes to the Manage this Class page options Make a Co Instructor the Primary Instructor for this Course After creating a class an

    permission of the owner of the copyright Colorado State University reserves the right to suspend or terminate the accounts of any individuals who misuse the information contained or who violate copyright laws on Writing CSU or the Writing Studio Privacy We do not share information about any of our account holders e g email addresses names institutional affiliations with any individuals or organizations We will however record and analyze aggregate statistics about account holders activities on the site to assess the effectiveness of our instructional materials and to identify problems with Writing CSU and the Writing Studio Translation we ll analyze how people use the site in an attempt to improve it Your Writing Studio Account Password Please do not share your Writing Studio password with anyone Together with the email address used to log in to your account your password is your key to managing your account information and any work you have saved in your folders Please use a strong password for this site It is generally considered good practice to use a long password string such as myauntsmiddlenameisnotbetty as opposed to a string of letters and numbers that you might find difficult to remember Should you forget your password however you can have it sent to you from the login page It will be mailed to the email address associated with your account To guard your identity please avoid using passwords that include sensitive personal information such as your social security number or student ID It s also a good idea whenever you create an account on the Web to avoid using the same password you use for accounts that contain sensitive information such as accounts with banks universities colleges and so on If an instructor has created an account for you please change your password immediately Doing so will increase the security of your account and help guard your privacy Email Administrators of this site will send periodic news and information to Writing Studio account holders through email Most often this news and information will provide notice of new features Writing Studio instructors and students with Writing Studio accounts will also periodically send email to students enrolled in classes supported by the Writing Studio This email should address issues related to the class Class Discussion Forums If you are enrolled in a class supported by a Writing Studio class page you might have access to electronic discussion forums Neither the instructors for these classes nor the administrators of the Writing Studio are responsible for the privacy practices of any account holder Remember that all information that is disclosed in these forums is accessible to members of your class and to your instructor s Please exercise caution when deciding to share any personal information and please exercise restraint when posting information that might be considered objectionable Any account holder who finds material posted by another account holder objectionable is encouraged to contact us via email We are authorized by you to remove or modify any information submitted

    they can have immediate access to information about how to write whether that information comes in the form of quick tips from a teacher detailed discussions with a teacher a handy textbook an online guide a demonstration of how to do something or some other form of instruction Writing CSU is our attempt to capture some of the elements of a classroom that uses a studio approach We hope that as it develops we ll be able to provide writers with writing tools advice information and feedback that will help them become better writers With this vision in mind tbe Writing Studio builds on resources we ve created on Writing CSU since 1992 including our writing guides writing activities writing collections course management system and links to other resources on the Web To help you as you write the Writing Studio offers a personal online space where you can compose and save your work Accounts are free and privacy is protected To support writing classes the Writing Studio offers a course management system that includes most of the tools found in commercial systems as well as wikis ePortfolios blogs and other tools that support the learning and teaching of writing To support writing groups the Writing Studio offers a Wiki tool that incorporates calendar discussion forum blogging and ePortfolio tools as well as additional communication tools To help you share your work with others the Writing Studio offers blogs wikis and ePortfolios as well as a robust course management system The blogs wikis and ePortfolio tools can be used within courses or on their own and you can decide whether to share them with others Depending on your preferences all of your work can be completely private or at least as private as anything can be on the Web shared
