    reunion giving raising 1 98 million from 177 members of the class An anonymous College alumnus has made a 5 million bequest to the Initiative to Endow the Core which supports the College s Core Curriculum In April more than 2 000 Columbians participated in A Million Reasons to Give a Columbia College Fund matching gift challenge earning the full matching gift of 1 million The Parents Leadership Council PLC made up of 35 families contributed 500 000 in annual fund support and an additional 1 million in gifts for restricted College priorities such as endowed scholarships and internships Columbia Global Centers The Bill Melinda Gates Foundation awarded a 4 9 million grant to Columbia Global Centers Africa for the Africa Soil Information Service which will expand the use of scientific information to ensure that Africa s soil and landscape resources used effectively to help sustainably raise agricultural productivity Andronico Luksic has pledged 1 million to the Columbia Global Centers Latin America in Santiago This is Luksic s second gift to the Santiago center the first helped open it Columbia Journalism School A faculty member has given 100 000 to create a scholarship in honor of Dean Nicholas Lemann who just completed his 10 year tenure as the head of the school The Nicholas Lemann Scholarship will support students in the school s Master of Arts program which Lemann created Another gift of 100 000 has established the Jonathan Maslow Scholarship Fund which honors the legacy of this 1974 alumnus who died in 2008 This scholarship will be matched by Kluge funds Columbia Law School Jack Weinstein 48LAW has given 1 million for the Evelyn and Jack Weinstein Fund for the Integrated Teaching of Law and Social Work which will provide countless opportunities for students who are interested in integrating their legal studies with social work Ira Millstein 49LAW gave 1 million for the Ira M Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership where research focused on the global financial markets including the changing relationships between investors and corporation will be conducted Eugene Grant 41LAW contributed 2 million in honor of the school s dean David M Schizer Columbia University Medical Center The Board of Trustees has approved plans to proceed with construction of the new Medical and Graduate Education Building this summer Recently Eugene and Rosamond Isenberg and George D Yancopoulos 80CC 86GSAS 87PS each committed 1 million to the facility Dr Yancopoulos is also a member of CUMC s Board of Advisors and was recently named chair of the Board s Science and Graduate Education Committee Support totaling 11 5 million from Board of Advisors member G Lynn Shostack is transforming CUMC s David A Gardner PET Imaging Research Center into one of the country s premier imaging research centers The center facilitates academic research as well as commercial development of investigational new drugs The Kully family has given 1 5 million to support the Department of Medicine The gift made through the Thomas R Kully Pulmonary
