    care food security gender issues justice political stability and entrepreneurship to name a few Our goal is to provide an on campus platform for Columbia students to engage with each other and leading experts at the forefront of global development issues and related fields We work to catalyze proactive initiatives and a more nuanced understanding in the Columbia community of the interplay between international development and innovative business strategies that successfully achieve a social environmental and economic bottom line We drew the inspiration in forming our club from a Kenyan company that exports teas to the United States and other developed nations while maintaining a commitment to improving the tea farming community in Kenya We were inspired by the company s openness to adding strategies such as fundraising that are unconventional to the capitalist enterprise to make sure that it meets its social pledge as well We are happy to see more creative tactics appear everyday in this flourishing arena We firmly believe that innovation is key to the creation of a more sustainable model for development In light of this we call ourselves members of a project rather than a prescribed solution as we are in the process of

    maximizing the benefits and minimizing the costs of investment for sustainable development The VCC also regularly collaborates with other Earth Institute centers and faculty as well as institutions worldwide integrating our expertise in law economics and investment with diverse fields of sustainable development Socially Responsible Investing at Columbia The Advisory Committee on Socially Responsible Investing was established as a permanent addition to the University in March 2000 The Committee s purpose is to advise the University Trustees on ethical and social issues that arise in the management of the investments in the University s endowment Engineers Without Borders Columbia Student Chapter The chapter currently has three programs in Ghana Morocco and Uganda The Ghana program which started in 2004 used to work in the semi urban town of Sakyikrom but now focuses on water management in the farming community of Obodan The Morocco program which began in 2011 is currently in the process of building a bridge in the rural community of Ait Bayoud In 2008 the Uganda program was established to install a Multi Function Energy Platform in the Soroti region Each project draws from the skills of its members to provide technical solutions to worldwide problems Aquanauts The Aquanauts develops projects to analyze supply chains assess regions and examine particular sets of water issues working on both policy and technical analyses that are region and location focused with a long term perspective Designated regions will receive sustained interactions and focused research client advising Water Guru and media coverage of issues and solutions The group seeks partnerships on such projects with governments and corporations who wish to integrate water initiatives into their development and CSR activities Consilience This publication aims to bring students researchers professors and practitioners from a variety of disciplines and geographical regions in direct conversation with
