  • QMPS: Animal Health Diagnostic Center
    Technician is certified by the Empire State Milk Quality Council to have demonstrated an understanding of milking systems and the ability to evaluate the performance of those systems The certified technician will be familiar with the resource materials developed to provide a basic understanding of milking equipment function and analysis milking techniques mastitis control programs and environmental assessment The Certified Dairy Equipment Technician also makes a commitment to meet annual continuing education requirements to remain informed of new technological developments The program was developed by an ad hoc committee made up of milking equipment dealers and installers SUNY Morrisville faculty veterinarians NY State Department of Agriculture Markets and Quality Milk Production Services personnel The program operates under the auspices of the Empire State Quality Milk Council and administrative services are provided by Quality Milk Production Services at Cornell University Financial support has been provided by the Department of Agriculture Markets The certification process is a voluntary program open to anyone that installs evaluates or maintains milking equipment such as Milking Equipment Dealers Dairy Production Consultants Certified Milk Inspectors University Extension Personnel Dairy Veterinarians Dept of Agriculture Markets How to get certified Demonstrate an understanding of milking systems and the ability to evaluate the performance of those systems The newly created Milking System Evaluation Form is used in the examination The Form is based on National Mastitis Council criteria and methods The examination includes An open book test Hands on System Testing based on Milking System Evaluation Form Examinees are required to use their own testing equipment Test will be held in multiple locations The investment for certification in this program 300 per person for NYS residents Residence outside NYS 350 per person includes a copy of the Dairy Equipment Technician Manual with information on Milking equipment function and analysis ASAE

    Pathology Avian Diagnostics Bacteriology Brucellosis Clinical Pathology Comparative Coagulation Endocrinology Molecular Diagnostics Parasitology Quality Milk Production Referral Serology Toxicology Virology All Test Types Infectious Non Infectious Clinical Samples In addition to the field services offered by QMPS veterinarians and dairy producers throughout the state may take advantage of the opportunity to submit clinical samples directly to the regional laboratories The resulting culture information can be used to determine the source of infection treatment and effectiveness of treatment When mailing samples to QMPS please make sure they are well refrigerated with ice packs and even freezing the samples prior to shipping is advised New DOT regulations are now in effect To help the sender with the proper mailing of samples QMPS offers a return foam box fully outfitted with the required DOT mailing material More information is located at the link below Mail early in the week avoiding Thursday or Friday as the samples may not reach our laboratories until the following week Quality Milk is continually improving their service to customers If you have availed yourself of our services in the recent past please complete the Farm Visit Survey below Submission of this short survey will ensure that 1 00

    Camelidae Canine Caprine Cervidae Equine Feline Ferret Fish Mammal Other Ovine Porcine Primate Reptile All Lab Sections Anatomic Pathology Avian Diagnostics Bacteriology Brucellosis Clinical Pathology Comparative Coagulation Endocrinology Molecular Diagnostics Parasitology Quality Milk Production Referral Serology Toxicology Virology All Test Types Infectious Non Infectious Proficiency Quality Milk Production Services is pleased to announce the offering of a Proficiency Testing Program to large and mixed animal practices The purpose of this program is to provide an external quality assurance program to veterinary practices as a means for assessing and monitoring laboratory methods and procedures for diagnosis of intramammary infections This program should also serve as a valuable resource for education self assessment self confidence and public confidence To enroll call the laboratory at Cobleskill 518 255 5681 Process The program will entail mailing two organisms to a participating veterinary practice four times a year Clinics will then be asked to identify the pathogens using bacteriological procedures and a form provided by QMPS Results should be returned to QMPS within two weeks of receiving the microorganisms QMPS laboratory staff will then assess the results an evaluation will be prepared and mailed to veterinary practices within a week of receiving the results from them Incorrect results will receive further training guidelines and suggestions to ensure correct identification in the future QMPS will maintain a data bank and generate a quarterly report to monitor results for all participating clinics Service Fees The fee for quarterly testing of pathogen analysis I D forms and evaluations is 200 per year Methods of payment include checks MasterCard or Visa cash or money orders made payable to Quality Milk Production Services Prepayment is required Important Information The material you receive for testing contains pathogenic organisms By participating in this program you assume all risks and responsibility in connection

    Milk Production Referral Serology Toxicology Virology All Test Types Infectious Non Infectious Minnesota Plates PDF version of manual Pdf version of brochure The Quality Milk Production Services QMPS and the University of Minnesota Udder Health Laboratory have reached an agreement whereby QMPS will distribute supplies and provide technical support for the Easy Culture II System in the Northeast This system consists of culture plates Bi plates and Triplates and a manual that explains their use and interpretation This service is intended to help you perform some relatively simple microbiological analysis procedures at your farm or veterinary clinic It is not intended to replace a high quality diagnostic laboratory or identify all organisms that may be present in the sample The Bi plate system is intended to identify a quarter as infected with Gram positive or Gram negative organisms but some further presumptive identification may be possible The Tri plate system is intended to give more complete identification of organisms causing the problem by including an additional media Both systems require an incubator and sterile cotton tipped swabs and are designed to be used on quarter milk samples only Optional materials needed to further identify microorganisms include Microscope and slides Hydrogen Peroxide Flat toothpicks Rabbit coagulase plasma Culture results can provide you with valuable decision making information Identifying infections early will facilitate treatment decisions and allow management changes that will have the greatest impact resulting in fewer new infections Generally reducing and or preventing new infections will depend on appropriate milking procedures cow dry and milking comfort and housing heifer rearing and appropriate dry cow management It is recommended that you and your veterinarian review all culture results and decide what mastitis management strategy is appropriate for your herd Easy Culture II plates and manuals as well as other laboratory supplies

    we also hosted the two day symposium on Molecular Methods in Milk Quality The first day was held in the Ramada Inn and attended by at least a hundred people Use of molecular and bacteriological methods in tracking of food borne disease outbreaks in vaccine development in monitoring of antimicrobial resistance and in trouble shooting milk quality and udder health problems were discussed In addition we were well fed as those of you that were there know The second day was held at the Vet School and attended by so many people that it was standing room only during the day Throughout both days we handed out QMPS pens cows and tri folds The audience included representatives from Ag Markets milk inspectors farmers veterinarians researchers the Dean of the Veterinary College assemblyman Bill McGee who went as far as saying that Quality Milk should become the state wide milk promotion theme Dr Alfonso Torres from the Diagnostic Laboratory representatives from pharmaceutical companies and many of you Thanks so much to all of you for helping to prepare the symposium and the open house and for your presence during the day s of the reception and the symposium To give you a flavor of the feedback we received here are some comments from people that participated in the symposium and the open house and even from those that did not attend but only received proceedings Just a quick note expressing my appreciation to all of you for making my recent visit to QMPS enjoyable Your hospitality as always was superb You have a great amount of momentum at QMPS and Cornell and I expect to see MANY great things happen in this exciting area Thanks for organizing such a wonderful symposium Thank you for organizing the molecular methods symposium I enjoyed
