    use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool please review our FAFSA Tips section Learn more about transferring tax data onto FAFSA automatically Step 2 Submit the FAFSA between January 1 and March 2 Students who file during this time period and who demonstrate the highest need will be given priority consideration for financial aid funding Those students who submit their applications after March 2 will not be given priority consideration awards will be based on the remaining funds available California residents applying for a Cal Grant must submit a GPA Verification Form as well as the FAFSA by the March 2 deadline GPA Verification Forms are available from the student s high school counselor or online at the California Student Aid Commision s website Step 3 Make any necessary corrections to the Student Aid Report SAR Once you have filed your FAFSA your information will be processed by Federal Student Aid and a Student Aid Report SAR will be generated typically within one week of your online FAFSA having been submitted The SAR is a summary of the information you entered on the FAFSA be sure to review the SAR for any errors You can make any necessary corrections online via the FAFSA website If no corrections are needed keep a printed copy of your SAR for reference Step 4 Submit any additional documentation requested Approximately two 2 weeks after processing your FAFSA the Department of Education will electronically transmit the information to CSUMB We will then review the data to determine if any additional documents i e tax returns citizenship documentation etc are needed This review is undertaken to ensure the accuracy of the information reported Please do NOT send information or documents that are not requested If additional documents are requested you may submit them In person to the

    any corrections to your FAFSA the corrected information will be sent back to the Federal Student Aid Processor to be revised Conflicting Information If the Federal Student Aid Processor was unable to confirm specific data provided on your FAFSA we will request additional documentation from you The most common documents requested are regarding U S Citizenship Permanent Residence Status A student must be a U S Citizen or permanent resident of the United States Eligible Non Citizen to receive financial aid We may be required to collect documentation that verifies your citizenship Examples of documentation are Copy of your birth certificate Copy of your passport Copy of your Certificate of Naturalization Copy of your Certificate of Citizenship INS document statement for Verification of Permanent Residency If you are an Eligible Non Citizen your alien registration number will be confirmed with the INS to verify your residency We may need to collect a copy of your alien registration card The copy will then be sent to the INS for manual verification If your status is verified we will continue to review your application for financial aid Social Security Number We may be required to collect a copy of your current social security card and drivers license If you do not have a current social security card or have lost your card you can go to the Social Security Administration Office nearest you and apply for another card Send a copy of the receipt to us right away and a copy of the card when you receive it Selective Service Status male students only Males who are between the age of 18 and 25 must register with Selective Service We may be required to collect documentation verifying you are registered with selective service If you meet one or more of the following

    in eRefund will receive funds the 2nd Friday of the start of term Please read Things to know before you cash your Paper Refund Check Grants Grants are automatically credited directly to a student s university account If excess funds remain after deducting any outstanding university charges a refund will be automatically issued via direct deposit through eRefund Federal Direct Stafford Loans Federal Direct Stafford Loans are disbursed in two equal amounts usually at the beginning of the semester with one disbursement occurring per semester In order for your Direct Stafford Loan to disburse you must first have done the following Returned all requested documents to the Financial Aid Office at CSUMB Accepted the Subsidized Unsubsidized Loan offer on CMS Student Completed the Direct Loan Master Promissory Note MPN Completed the Online Entrance Counseling first time borrowers at CSUMB only Enrolled in the appropriate number of units for half time status 6 for undergraduates 5 for Master s level Be making Satisfactory Academic Progress on your degree or certificate Once all of the above requirements have been met the loans will disburse and be credited towards any outstanding university related charges If there is any amount remaining from the loan disbursement a refund will be issued to you via direct deposit through the eRefund process Federal Work Study Awards Students in approved work study positions are paid monthly for hours worked The student must submit a time sheet to the employer by the 23rd of each month so that the student can receive a check on the 15th of the following month Students should discuss specific payroll procedures with their employer Scholarships You are required to notify the Financial Aid Office of any scholarships you are receiving including those awards issued by academic departments as well as awards you receive payment of directly We must include this funding with your other financial aid award s If necessary we may adjust other awards Students who receive scholarships from their high school or community groups should have their funds sent directly to CSUMB Financial Aid Office 100 Campus Center Seaside CA 93955 CSUMB will then disburse the funds directly to the student based on the donor s instructions All outstanding University charges must be settled before the funds can be released Who can answer further questions about Financial Aid For specific questions about your financial aid visit the Financial Aid Office located on the 3rd floor of the Student Services Building or call the office at 831 582 5100 When are funds processed In general students who are registered for Direct Deposit and are eligible for a refund will receive their disbursement the 1st Friday of the start of each term Students who are NOT registered for Direct Deposit will and are eligible for a refund will receive their disbursement the 2nd Friday of the start of each term It is important that you complete all paperwork and return any requested documents to the Financial Aid Office prior to the start of

    deadlines Add Drop Deadline Financial Aid will not be recalculated if a change in enrollment occurs after the Add Drop deadline The student is responsible for paying additional fees assessed and or any amount of ineligible Financial Aid as a result of decreased enrollment SAP Deadline If a student is on Financial Aid Probation a SAP Appeal Individual Learning Plan Academic Plan and a SAP Workshop must be completed 30 days after the start of term If a student is on Financial Aid Warning the student must attend a SAP Workshop before the end of term A SAP Workshop schedule deadline will be published on the Financial Aid Website every semester The SAP Workshop is designed to discuss the SAP Policy compliance Failure to meet the SAP Deadline s will jeopardize future Financial Aid Eligibility Census Date In the case of students who completely withdraw from CSUMB Federal regulations mandate that CSUMB adjust all unearned Financial Aid and return funds to the US Department of Education Unearned Financial Aid will be calculated based on the return to Title IV R2T4 formula established by Federal Student Aid The percentage of earned unearned Financial Aid is calculated based on the percentage of enrollment completed by the student The Financial Aid Office notifies students of their pending balance if applicable as a result of the R2T4 calculation via U S Postal Service For more information visit our Withdrawal Procedures webpage Payment Extension Deadline Applying for Financial Aid does not guarantee an extension of tuition fee housing payment Payment extensions are granted by the Financial Aid Office if the student was awarded enough Financial Aid to cover direct costs per term Students who are ineligible for a payment extension are encouraged to set up a Tuition Fee Installment Payment Plan IPP and a Housing
