    an Emergency Resources for Parents Guardians CSUMB Home Campus Life Housing Current Residents Safety Tips General Safety Tips 1 Do not walk alone after dark If you are out alone after dark walk with friends classmates or use Night Walk available Monday Thursday 6pm 11 30pm by calling 831 582 3573 2 Stay alert be aware of what is around you Be aware of your surroundings others who are around you and any dark areas where someone might be hiding Be alert to potential danger If it doesn t look right or feel right trust your instincts 3 Know where the emergency call boxes are located The University Police Department provides several emergency call boxes with blue lights above them If you need help use the box and an officer will respond 4 Park and walk in well lit areas If you absolutely must walk alone at night be sure to stay on well traveled and well lit walkways and paths 5 Make smart decisions Don t put yourself in vulnerable situations especially around people you may not know or trust Residence Hall Safety Tips 1 Do not prop open any residence hall doors A door propped open invites non residents into the building some of whom commit crimes against residents If you come across a propped door close it 2 Lock doors at all times even when you are home Locking your door when you are asleep or gone will probably be the most important thing you can do to ensure your safety 3 Escort your guests at all times Even if you trust your guests unescorted strangers can frighten others Keep track of where your guests are Do not let strangers into the building 4 Watch for unescorted people in the residence halls Do not let the person continue unescorted contact a member of the residence hall staff for assistance Report suspicious persons loitering or checking doors in your hall to UPD immediately Request identification and authorization from maintenance staff who request to enter your room 5 Be careful about leaving first floor windows open It is relatively easy to climb in and out of first floor windows and thefts can easily occur through open windows This applies to all first floor rooms 6 Always follow fire safety rules Ensure your smoke detectors are in working order and know the location of fire extinguishers Know your evacuation route and emergency exits for the building If you discover a fire activate the alarm and alert residents immediately Leave the building immediately and direct the fire or police department to the fire Tampering with fire extinguishers and triggering a false fire alarm endangers everyone and is grounds for eviction 7 Never loan your key card out to anyone and report lost key cards immediately Guests are only allowed into rooms when accompanied by the license holder Loaning a key card to anyone compromises the safety of all roommates this is also a residence hall policy violation If you lose your

    Licenses no exceptions Graduating residents will be allowed to check out by 12 noon on Sunday May 22 2016 Be on time for your check out appointment All items must be removed from your room and the space cleaned and before you are ready to check out Students with summer housing assignments do not need to check out of their Spring assignments by Saturday May 21 2016 Additional information will be sent to summer residents regarding the summer check in procedure and when they will need to check out of their spring assignment Main Campus You will need to schedule a check out appointment with your RA Beginning Sunday May 1 2016 your RA will have a sign up schedule available for check out appointments Check out appointments must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance and are made on a first come first serve basis If your preferred check out time is not available please select another time Graduating residents will be allowed to check out by 12 noon on Sunday May 22 2016 Graduates still need to schedule a check out appointment with their RA Be on time for your check out appointment If you rearranged the furniture in your room please make sure it is put back to the way it was when you first moved in Charges may apply for furniture that is not returned to its original configuration Residents who are late for appointments are not prepared or do not sign up for appointment times 24 hours prior to check out will be charged an Improper Check Out Fee of 75 Main Campus residents have an opportunity to bypass the standard check out process by completing an Express Check Out For more information on the Express Check Out process please contact your community director We recommended students complete the Standard Check Out process East Campus Beginning May 1 2015 your RA will have Check Out envelopes available at their front door for easy pick up envelopes will also be available at the East Campus Housing Office Prior to placing your keys in the Check Out Envelope please make sure you have removed all of your belongings from your room apartment cleaned according to the Cleaning Guidelines which are included on the envelope and below and locked your room Once this has been completed place your keys in the Check Out Envelope and give the sealed envelope to the East Campus Housing Office during regular business hours Regular Business Hours Monday Friday 8am 5pm Saturday 8am 5pm Sunday CLOSED Business Hours May 21 22 2016 Monday Sunday 8am 5pm While not encouraged if you need to drop off your envelope after business hours make sure the envelope is sealed completely filled outand place it in the drop box outside of 603 Thomas Court Once the information on your Check Out Envelope is completed signed and the envelope is turned in the Check Out Process is complete Check Out Appointment Optional If you would like to

    Parents Guardians Release of student information Mental Health Returning to Campus After an Emergency Resources for Parents Guardians CSUMB Home Campus Life Housing Current Residents Guest Registration Student Housing Residential Life Community Standard on Overnight Guests Subject to prior discussion with and the express approval of all roommates suitemates a student may host an overnight guest an individual whom stays in the room overnight In the interests of the rights of roommates suitemates and other residents there are limits to the duration and frequency of such visits Further as always the resident host is responsible for the behavior of their guest The following conditions and procedures apply to the hosting of overnight guests Guests that stay within any CSUMB housing facility between the hours of 12 00 a m and 7 00 a m are considered Overnight Guests and are required to be registered A resident may host an overnight guest in student housing with the prior consent of all roommates suitemates The total number of days a guest can stay is not to exceed 14 days over the course of the academic calendar year i e August through May Except with prior approval of all roommates suitemates and approval by Student Housing Residential Life no resident may host more than two 2 overnight guests at one time Each guest must be registered individually To promote overall campus safety and facilitate the entrance and exit of overnight guests from university housing residents are required to register their non residential overnight guests with Student Housing Residential Life Student Housing Residential Life reserves the right to deny guest registration Overnight Guest Defined An overnight guest is defined as any residential or non residential person who is staying within any CSUMB housing facility between the hours of 12 00 a m and 7 a m For current CSUMB housing students who are assigned a living space with CSUMB i e East Campus Apartment North Quad Main Campus and decide to stay overnight at another CSUMB housing students living space or host another CSUMB housing student the hosted student is required to be registered All non residential overnight guests must be registered in advance with the Student Housing Residential Life This purpose of this registration is designed for the safety of residents guests and other members of the University community Failure to register an overnight guest pursuant to this Community Standard will result in disciplinary action Non residential overnight guest refers to any guest who is a non student or a CSUMB student who does not live in University housing Registration of Overnight Guests within CSUMB housing The following link will be as identification on the Cal State University Monterey Bay Campus when presented by a guest who is accompanied by the host student The host student may also be required to present a valid CSUMB student identification card Guests may be required to vacate University premises and or events if they fail to present this form to university officials upon request Guests are
