  • Maintaining your financial aid | Cal State Monterey Bay
    student your accepted transfer coursework will be counted in the maximum timeframe You can repeat a course but the credits will be applied toward the maximum timeframe Required remedial coursework will not be counted toward your maximum timeframe up to 30 credits Undergraduate Enrollment Status Fulltime 12 or more undergraduate credits Three quarter time 9 to 11 undergraduate credits Half time 6 to 8 undergraduate credits Less than half time 1 to 5 undergraduate credits Graduate Enrollment Status Full time 8 or more credits Three quarter time 6 to 7 credits Half time 4 to 5 credits Less than half time 1 to 3 credits Financial Aid Probation Students who have not met the Minimum Standard Requirements will be placed on probation You are still eligible for Financial Aid consideration while on probation Students who do not meet Minimum Standard Requirements at the end of their probationary semester will be placed on suspension for the next term Students who are on probation will be required to attend a Satisfactory Academic Progress Workshop before funds are released for the following semester Financial Aid Suspension If the financial aid office determines that you have not met the Minimum Standard Requirements to receive Financial Aid you will be disqualified from Financial Aid assistance You are not eligible for Financial Aid consideration while on suspension Students who are on suspension will be required to attend a Satisfactory Academic Progress Workshop before funds are released for the following semester Reinstatement If you maintain satisfactory academic progress without financial aid for one academic year completing at least 12 credits total you may be eligible for reinstatement and regain eligibility for financial aid You must notify the financial aid office in writing when you have completed the reinstatement requirements Students who have been disqualified for exceeding the maximum time frame are ineligible for reinstatement and can only regain financial aid eligibility through the appeal process Students who are reinstated will be required to attend a Satisfactory Academic Progress Workshop before funds are released for the following semester Appeal Process You have the right to appeal your suspension from financial aid The appeal form is available on the Financial Aid website You should provide an explanation of any extenuating circumstances that prevented you from maintaining satisfactory academic progress Supporting documentation will strengthen your appeal The appeal will be reviewed by a financial aid counselor You will be notified of the result of your appeal by email or letter If your appeal is denied you may request an additional review by the financial aid appeals committee The appeals committee s decision is final Changes to your Financial Aid Award Financial aid award revisions will be made in the following cases If you receive additional resources such as scholarships Cal Grants or stipends If you reduce unit enrollment prior to add drop If you do not indicate your correct housing status on your Award Letter If you withdraw from all courses If your appeal for revision is granted Withdrawal from

    of language will count toward Area C GE units Students transferring into and graduating from an approved high unit major who are either A E Complete or who have 60 units are exempted Students should consult their advisor for more information Upper Division Upper Division Service Learning Courses fulfilling this requirement must be taken no sooner than the term in which the student achieves upper division status 60 units UDSL courses offer 2 units of upper division GE in Area D and also offer additional units counting toward another GE area or the major Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement Many courses on campus satisfy the GWAR Students should consult with their academic advisor as some GWAR approved courses also meet major requirements Major Requirements The State of California requires students to complete a minimum of 24 units in their major program of study 36 units for a BS These units are earned through successful completion of required courses outcomes and experiences Students should reference the University Catalog to identify specific program requirements Major Learning Outcomes All CSUMB major degree programs have a set of learning outcomes that students must satisfy through aligned courses or alternate assessments as designed by the program The University Catalog lists the MLOs for each degree program Concentrations Many degree programs require students to select a particular area of study within the major in order to attain greater depth of knowledge and understanding The University Catalog will indicate the options available to students Free Electives The State of California requires a minimum of 120 semester units to be eligible for a baccalaureate degree Students who complete general education and major requirements in fewer than 120 semester units are able to select additional courses as needed to meet the state requirement Requirements Entry Status If you enter CSUMB as a freshman you must fulfill all requirements while at CSUMB Entering as a Transfer StudentIf you transfer from a community college or another university the specific requirements depend on your status when you enter CSUMB Transfer Students with Fully Certified GE Breadth Requirements If you transfer from another California institution with fully certified GE Breadth Requirements or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum IGETC you automatically satisfy Lower Division GE Requirements You still need to satisfy the nine 9 units of Upper Division GE inclusive of American Institutions D4 and GWAR A4 the CSUMB Language Proficiency Requirement all major requirements and the minimum semester credit requirements No more than 39 semester credits of GE credit certified by other institutions will be applied to the GE requirements at CSUMB Transfer Students Without Fully Certified GE Breadth Requirements If you enter CSUMB without having fully certified all GE Breadth Requirements or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum IGETC you must complete all unmet GE Breadth Requirements through the corresponding CSUMB GE courses with no less than nine semester credits at the upper division level after achieving upper division status CSUMB Admissions certifies which GE area s you have met You also
