    Faculty experts Official University Accounts Social Media Guidelines Social Media Directory CSUMB Home News Panel examines issues around workforce development Building the workforce of the 21st century will be the topic addressed by a panel of experts on March 2 when the President s Speaker Series resumes at Cal State Monterey Bay A thriving Monterey Bay region requires a skilled educated workforce to power future high tech high value sustainable industries of the 21st century How can we identify what skills academic and vocational institutions should teach their students to help us achieve these goals What are the new educational and training models that leverage technology to connect students and workers with the jobs and companies of the future Panelists include Rick Antle CEO of Tanimura Antle He has followed in the Antle family tradition of leadership and innovation in the produce industry He constantly challenges his team to provide new solutions even if they go against conventional wisdom Dr Chris Benner professor of environmental studies at UC Santa Cruz His research focuses on the relationships among technological change regional development and structures of economic opportunity focusing on regional labor markets and the transformation of work and employment patterns Tim Rainey executive director of the California Workforce Development Board Previously he was director of the Workforce and Economic Development Program of the California Labor Federation Rick Antle Chris Benner Tim Rainey This year s speaker series is made possible by a generous contribution from Bud and Rebecca Colligan The discussion will start at 3 30 p m in the World Theater on Sixth Avenue near A Street A question and answer session and a public reception will follow The community is invited to this free event Reservations are requested and can be made by calling the World Theater box office

  • Cal State Monterey Bay
    State Monterey Bay is one of 44 colleges nationwide selected for a three year pilot program Re imagining the First Year of College RFY that aims to transform the freshman year in order to improve students chances of success in school and in the 21st century workplace CSUMB hosts screening of Latino Americans Latino Americans 500 Years of History a six part documentary was created for the Public Broadcasting Service PBS in 2013 CSUMB has been screening the films thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association On Feb 17 another installment in the series will be shown on campus A talk by director Ray Telles will accompany the screening CSUMB expands its presence in Salinas Cal State Monterey Bay has leased the main building vacated by last year s closure of Heald College in Salinas and will begin offering classes in that facility later this year The 25 000 square foot building on North Main Street and Alvin Drive includes office space and 11 classrooms It will be known as CSUMB North Salinas Panel examines issues around workforce development Building the workforce of the 21st century will be the topic addressed by a panel of experts on March 2 when the President s Speaker Series resumes at Cal State Monterey Bay Health care is the civil rights issue of the 21st century speaker says CSU Monterey Bay s College of Health Sciences and Human Services celebrates Black History Month with a lecture by physician and former Congresswoman Donna Christensen on Feb 24 Challenges facing women entrepreneurs topic of forum This semester s Entrepreneurship Forum at Cal State Monterey Bay features a discussion on the challenges and rewards women face in startups and tech companies The forum will be held Feb 11
