  • Faculty Borrowing Privileges | Oviatt Library
    the Library s Guest Services Desk where the item will be stamped with the date due Loan period Reference items borrowed Monday Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday are due the following day at 12 00 noon Items borrowed on Friday are due that SAME day at 4 45 p m Reference materials DO NOT circulate over or during the weekend Reference items must be returned directly to the Guest Services Desk Two overdue reference items may result in the cancellation of this privilege for the remainder of the academic year Overnight Periodical Loan Another special privilege for faculty is overnight borrowing of periodicals both bound and unbound This is intended to allow copying of needed articles using department facilities Periodicals checked out during the week are due the following day at noon Periodicals do not circulate over the weekend If they are checked out on a Friday they are due that day at 5 00 p m Check out and return periodicals at the Periodicals Microform Desk fourth floor east wing Two overdue periodicals will result in the cancellation of periodical check out privileges for the remainder of the academic year Periodicals do not circulate to students Recalls Faculty have the responsibility to respond promptly to recall notices When a hold is placed on a book borrowed by a faculty member Circulation staff create a recall and reset the due date of the item If the faculty member has had the item for less than two weeks the due date is reset to two weeks from the date of loan otherwise the due date is reset to the date of the recall A recall notice is sent to the faculty member who is expected to return the item immediately so that we may meet the need of the person who placed

    or valuable materials such as manuscripts Back to Top How do I request items on Interlibrary Loan The library catalog our full text databases and the Government Publications Shelf List for items published prior to 2000 must be consulted first to be sure the material is not held in the Oviatt Library Currently we have two methods for submitting requests Use the automated Interlibrary Loan System There are 4 request forms available an article a loan a book chapter and thesis Through most databases once you find the citation of the item you can order it by selecting the Find Text button Accurate and complete bibliographic information must be supplied along with the source usually an index major bibliography or a searched database where this information was verified Back to Top How long does it take to get an item from Interlibrary Loan The average time required to receive a routine item is approximately ten working days The time depends on the availability of the item the location of the potential lending libraries the speed of the delivery the accuracy of the information supplied in the requests and the volume of requests being processed by Interlibrary Loan The processing of the request can be sped up by making sure all the information submitted is complete and correct Requests with problems such as abbreviations missing or inaccurate information or a not needed after date of less than 2 weeks are resolved only as time permits See also sections on Notification and Questions Back to Top How will I be notified and where do I pick up my requested item The information you provide in your patron profile on the ILL System will determine how you are notified when the material arrives During our regular turnaround time please check your profile for the request status Loans can be picked up from the Interlibrary Loan office during our regular office hours Photocopies can be delivered to your desktop be picked up from the office or sent to you by U S Mail When the Interlibrary Loan Office is closed you will need to pick your items up at the Guest Services Desk Please see our Service Desk Hours http library csun edu Services ServiceDeskHours Back to Top What is electronic delivery Many libraries send photocopies of articles to us in electronic format In the past we printed these articles before delivering them to you Now through our automated system we are able to offer you the option of electronic delivery of these articles in PDF format Adobe s Portable Document Format You can read more about electronic delivery on the Electronic Delivery Information page Back to Top How long will I be able to keep the loan and can I renew it Lending libraries determine any conditions regarding the use of their materials including the loan period which varies from 14 21 days for all patrons including faculty The loan period begins on the date the material arrives at CSUN so any delays

    Reserves Periodicals and Microform staff for details A separate form is required for each course or reserve location A special note on accessibility It is the policy of the CSU to make information technology resources and services accessible to all CSU students faculty staff and the general public regardless of disability For more information see http www calstate edu accessibility If you have any students who may have special needs that may require additional processing to allow them to use the reserve materials please inform Reserves staff upon submission of reserve requests in person by phone at 818 677 3282 or by email at librbr csun edu We are making every effort to provide accessible reserve items However please contact the Reserves Periodicals and Microform department immediately if you are informed by any student that a reserve item in its present format is not useable To place materials on reserve Complete the Online Reserve Request Form and submit it via the web Alternatively you can complete the Printable Form print it out and submit it along with the materials to the appropriate reserve desk locations listed below For books and or e books not available in the Oviatt Library collection Enter Please order and provide the ISBN number in the Call Number column This order process may take several weeks Please note that you will be notified when the materials have arrived or if any issues arise Submission Guidelines for Electronic Reserves Articles or book chapters for electronic reserves not available online Photocopy appropriate pages please follow copyright guidelines Fill out Printable Form Deliver to appropriate reserve desk location see below You will receive course password at drop off We will notify you if any processing issues arise or when materials are uploaded and ready Electronic files links or citations
