    Policies WASC Information Ask a Librarian Live Chat 24 7 Text a Librarian Reference Desk Subject Specialists University Video Network UVN The University Video Network UVN delivers both university specific television programs and selected commercial channels to specially equipped classrooms throughout the CSUN campus Of the total 51 channels on the network 16 channels 20 35 are managed and operated by Music Media These channels as well as nearly 8 000 titles of instructional videos and DVDs from the Media Collection may be reserved by faculty for classroom showings The UVN allows faculty to focus on instruction without the inconvenience of transporting the AV equipment back and forth or checking videos in and out of the Library In the classroom instructors have complete control over video playback including start stop fast forward and rewind using the classroom telephone If further assistance is called for technical personnel are available during regular class hours To schedule videos for UVN playback contact Music Media at 818 677 2211 or submit the Multiple Booking Form by mail or fax 818 677 7167 Please call to verify receipt of faxed documents Collections Collections Overview Music Media Special Collections Archives Digital Collections Teacher Curriculum Center Government

    Policies WASC Information Ask a Librarian Live Chat 24 7 Text a Librarian Reference Desk Subject Specialists Viewing and Listening Stations Viewing and Listening Stations are located in Music Media for all patrons to review Library media or items brought from home The facility can be used for study assignments or simply for enjoying movies or CDs when time permits The lab s 24 individual carrels accommodate two patrons each In addition there is a group review room Viewing Carrels There are 20 carrels with VHS and DVD players and televisions one with a Daisy CD player for students with visual impairments A slide viewer is also available Two sets of headphones are provided Listening Carrels Four listening carrels contain CD Players Two of these carrels provide a combined CD and audio cassette recorder which can be used to record selected tracks from CDs to audio cassette for home study A turntable for LPs is also available and students can also record selected tracks onto audio cassettes Instructions for recording tracks are available at the service desk Patrons must provide their own audio cassettes for recording and follow Music Publishers Association Copyright Resource Center guidelines Group Review Room A Group Review Room is available for groups of 3 6 patrons to view videotapes or DVDs or listen to CDs Permission to use the room can be obtained at the service desk It can be used for the duration of the media up to two hours and can be renewed if there is no group waiting Under special circumstances larger groups can use the Music Media Lecture Room to view Library media Arrangements need to be made with the Music Media staff Services Services Overview Borrow Renew Interlibrary Loan Course Reserves Computers Laptops iPads Printing Photocopying For Faculty For Users with

    About the Collections Special Collections Archives is comprised of five areas within the Oviatt Library which were independently established between 1973 and 1996 In 1993 the Urban Archives Center University Archives and Special Collections areas were combined and became Special Collections Archives The Old China Hands Archives was added in 1996 and the International Guitar Research Archives in 2000 While each group of collections has a unique history patrons can access all materials in the Special Collections Archives Reading Room Oviatt Library Second Floor West Wing room 265 See also our list of former directors curators and archivists Materials in all of Special Collections Archives five areas have been used in several grant funded projects on campus These include a Hispanic Serving Institutions HSI Grant Project a Library Services and Technology Act LSTA Grant and others Special Collections Special Collections was established in 1973 to house the Library s manuscripts rare books periodicals maps prints and art Processed and cataloged collections are open for research International Guitar Research Archives IGRA The International Guitar Research Archives IGRA was founded in 1980 by Professor Ronald C Purcell upon the donation of the Vahdah Olcott Bickford Collection to California State University Northridge Old China Hands Archives The Old China Hands Archives was established in the fall of 1996 by Professor Robert Gohstand to preserve and publicize the heritage of the many people from other countries who have lived in China University Archives The University Archives is the repository for the historical papers of California State University Northridge s administration Faculty Senate schools and departments and student activities on campus Urban Archives The Urban Archives was established in 1979 to collect historically significant records of the organizations and citizens who have contributed to the growth of Los Angeles County Special Collections Archives Special Collections

    open Materials requested within 30 minutes of closing will be available at 9 00 AM the following business day See the Oviatt Library Service Desk Hours for our hours of operation To request materials please present a current form of photo identification either CSUN I D or government issued photo identification etc Researchers must also complete a Registration and Request Form before materials are paged Staff will issue researchers a key to a locker to store personal belongings such as backpacks purses briefcases computer cases and loose articles of clothing We prefer that your personal research material be stored in your locker If necessary staff can review and stamp personal research material before it is brought into the reading room Notes should be taken with the pencils and paper provided by reading room staff For preservation reasons ink pens and mechanical pencils are strictly prohibited Digital cameras can be used with the flash turned off Please respect others in the reading room If you need to talk please keep your voice low Please silence your cell phone If you need to take a call please step outside No food or beverages including water are allowed in the reading room Special Collections Archives reserves the right to inspect all research materials and personal articles before researchers exit the reading room Please note that the reading room is monitored by surveillance cameras and recorded on video at all times Using Materials To ensure the preservation of Special Collections Archives we ask that researchers keep materials flat on the table at all times Please do not lean on write on mark fold erase or trace over special materials If items require special handling reading room staff will help you and provide specific instructions Cotton gloves will be provided as needed One box or
