  • Black History Matters: Celebrate Black History Month at the Oviatt Library | Oviatt Library
    to have a variety of events which include some great speakers On February 2nd we will have one of CSUN s own professors Dr Josh Sides speak on the history of South Central Los Angeles Dr Amina Hassan and Judge Robin Miller will speak about the legacy of Loren Miller a noted civil rights attorney and journalist In addition we will have a wonderful exhibit here in our Library Exhibit Gallery Historicizin Contemporizin the Black Aesthetic with an opening reception on February 10th We will also have a workshop experience with our Wikipedia Edit a thon where librarians will help you learn to edit Wikipedia and contribute to the scope and content of Black History and the African Diaspora Float Queen Brenda A English Pasadena 1963 from the digital collection Tom and Ethel Bradley Center Photographis As well in the Library we will be hosting a student performance from the group Vocal ARTillery and another performance with the CSUN Gospel Choir And online will be Special Collections Archives blog devoted to Black History throughout the month and our Digital Collections hosts our Bradley Center Digital Exhibit Please check out our Events Exhibitions calendar for these wonderful events our Special Collections blog Peek in the Stacks and our Digital Collections Our month long series of events is made possible through our co sponsorship with the Department of Africana Studies the College of Social Behavioral Sciences the Mike Curb College of Arts Media and Communication and the Division of Student Affairs Please check the University Calendar for a list of events occurring this month outside of the Library Black History Matters Events Upcoming Events Feed Black History Matters Online Game and Raffle Oviatt Library Website February 1 2016 12 00am to February 29 2016 12 00am Answer a Question a day for

    your search to a specific set of databases How do I limit my OneSearch results to articles books ebooks other formats Your results in OneSearch will automatically put you in the Articles tab This is where you will find items that appear in our databases journal articles dissertations images and more If you are looking for a particular format just check the box When you click More Options you can include as well as exclude different formats Want everything except for dissertations Just click the exclude buttons If you are looking for books media CDs DVDs etc jump over to the Books Media tab Here you can limit your search by format as well I need a scholarly peer reviewed article from the last 10 years How do I find one OneSearch allows you to limit your results to scholarly articles with the check of a box Scroll down to create a customized date range I found the article I want How do I access it Click on the Full Text Available Link below the article information If you need further directions see our Find Text FAQ page I found the book I want How do I get it Below the title of the book you will see the relevant information to get to the book where it s located the call number and its availability If the book is in the library it will say IN LIBRARY If it is checked out you will see the date it is due If it is otherwise unavailable it will list the reason why LOST MISSING etc If you want this information sent to your phone click on the title and then on Send location to your phone What does ONLINE Electronic Book mean When you see Electronic Book or ONLINE in

    Maps Policies WASC Information Ask a Librarian Live Chat 24 7 Text a Librarian Reference Desk Subject Specialists Finding Sound Recordings Videos and DVDs in the Library Catalog The Library Catalog allows patrons to conveniently search for sound recordings videos and DVDs by title author subject and keyword Searches can be further refined to specific genres and even restricted to details such as actors and directors in feature films You can combine multiple search criteria using Advanced Search For example to find the BBC production of Macbeth you could search title for Macbeth and any field for BBC Using any field will return the greatest number of results see also How to Use the Library Catalog Advanced Search Media type Use the Optional Limits to limit your search to specific media type From the Material Type menu select MUSIC SCORE VIDEO FILM SPOKEN RECORD SOUND RECORD COMPUTER FILE or MIXED MAT Browse Feature Films for a list of feature films in the library search feature films in any field Under Optional Limits set the Display results by menu to Alphabetical Browse Genres Browse feature films as above specifying the desired genre e g Science Fiction Adventure Comedy etc using a second any field search box Search Results If the location listed in the individual record is Media Circulation Video or DVD it is available to be checked out by all patrons the same as a Library book If the location is listed as Media Instructional Video or DVD it is available to be booked by faculty or staff for classroom showings Students may check out these programs for three hours to view in the Library only Research Assistance Research Assistance Overview How To Guides Tutorials Subject Guides Course Guides Ask a Librarian Citing Your Sources Reference and Instructional Services CSUN
