    you must gain admission into a specific program Please contact the department office of the program to which you are interested in applying for specific admission requirements I m having trouble with the online application process Who can I call for help You may call 1 800 GO TO XAP for technical assistance How long does it take to process my application Once applications are complete processing time averages 6 8 weeks but varies depending on how long the department takes to make a decision Please contact your individual department for more information on their requirements for admission This process will be expedited if official transcripts are submitted with the university admission application The Office of Graduate Studies gathers the necessary documents to create each student s permanent record and verifies that the student has a bachelor s degree or its equivalent and meets minimum GPA requirements An application from a candidate who meets those university requirements are then forwarded to the department for their consideration Once a decision is made and the Office of Graduate Studies is notified admission or denial letters are mailed to the students I app lied to the department do I still need to apply to the university Yes the application process at Sac State consists of two tiers In addition to applying to a specific department you must also submit a university application to the Office of Graduate Studies in order to be considered for admission Top Do I ha ve to submit official transcripts from all the institutions I have attended Yes transcripts are required from all institutions of higher education that you have attended including institutions outside of the U S However CSUS transcripts are not required Applications that lack transcripts will be considered incomplete and will be denied Top Why do I n eed to send two official transcripts Do you take copies What if I graduated from CSUS with my undergraduate degree Two sets of official transcripts should be submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies unless your department instructs you to do otherwise Some departments prefer that you send one set directly to the department so they can begin an admissions file immediately Please check with the department first A copy sent directly to the Office of Graduate Studies is always required Students who completed or are in the process of completing their bachelor s degree at CSU Sacramento and have not taken any other coursework elsewhere since they graduated are not required to submit transcripts with their university application Top Do I need tran scripts from my junior college if the classes I took appear on the transcript where I earned my bachelor s degree What if I am just doing a credential program Yes Individual transcripts from each university college junior college or community college attended are required by the university to complete your graduate application Transfer credits from one institution that appear on the transcript of another institution may not be substituted for an individual official transcript Top Where should I ma il my transcripts Can I submit them in person Submit digit zip code when sending documents to different university departments Not including the last 4 digits of the zip code 6112 is the most common reason transcripts do not arrive in a timely manner You may submit official transcripts sealed in the issuing institution s envelope in person Transcripts that have been opened will not be accepted Top What is the cost of at tending Graduate School Fees are subject to change Current fees directly related to registration can be found in the class schedule Top Is financial assist ance available Application fee waivers to be submitted with your University admission application are available upon request Loan applications are available through the campus Financial Aid office Graduate Assistant and Teaching Associate positions may be available affect the amount of financial aid that I am eligible to receive Conditionally classified graduate students who enroll in less than 4 units of 200 level coursework per semester are only eligible for financial aid at the UNDERGRADUATE level 10 500 annual maximum In order to be eligible for financial aid at the GRADUATE level 18 500 annual maximum conditionally classified graduate students must enroll in 4 or more units of 200 level coursework per semester These conditions apply until the requirements to become a fully classified graduate student have been satisfied Top Is the class sched     such conditions Continuous Enrollment Graduate students who have been advanced to candidacy and who have completed all course work can maintain the required active degree program status without additional University registration by enrolling in Continuous Enrollment through Open University There are no units associated with this enrollment but a College of Continuing Education fee equal to one unit is required Culminating Experience The Thesis Project Dissertation or Comprehensive Exam required complete a Master s or Doctoral degree Top D Declassification Students may be declassified for Failure to make satisfactory progress or having too low of a GPA to advance to candidacy Students who have been declassified must reapply to the University in a subsequent semester Defense Thesis Dissertation As the final step toward a some Master s degrees or a Ph D candidates must pass an oral examination before their thesis or doctoral committee in defense of their thesis or dissertation Degree Conferral Upon successful completion of program requirements degrees are conferred on the last day of the semester see Academic Calendar Disqualification See Academic Dismissal Dissertation A requirement for the Ph D the dissertation is a report of an original investigation carried out under the direction of the candidate s major professor The dissertation must be the candidate s own work Although it may be the result of research enterprises in which the candidate collaborated with others it must reflect the candidate s own style and a substantial portion must represent the candidate s own creative contribution Doctorate Ph D The highest academic degree conferred by a university to students who have completed at least three years of graduate study beyond the bachelor s and or master s degree and who have demonstrated their academic ability in oral and written examinations and through original research presented in the form of a dissertation Top F Fee Waiver The application fee may be waived for a limited number of applicants for whom payment would be a financial hardship If you believe you qualify fill out the Application Fee Waiver portion of the online application On line fee waiver requests will be processed immediately and the applicant will be informed of their fee status at that time Please note that if your fee waiver request is denied your application will be placed in incomplete status and will not be processed until the fee is paid Fellowship A type of financial aid for graduate students that waives part or all of due tuition in exchange for some type of work or assistance in return FERPA Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act FERPA 20 U S C 1232g 34 CFR Part 99 is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U S Department of Education Students have the right to review their own educational records but schools must have written permission from the student to release such information

  • ACA-0110 Grade Appeal Policy
    the absence of compelling reasons such as instructor or clerical error prejudice or capriciousness the grade assigned by the instructor of record is to be considered final Students who believe that an appropriate grade has not been assigned should first seek to resolve the matter informally with the instructor of record If the matter cannot be resolved informally the student may present his her case to the appropriate campus entity have it reviewed and where justified receive a grade correction If the instructor of record does not assign a grade or if he she does not change an assigned grade when the necessity to do so has been established by appropriate campus procedures it is the responsibility of other qualified faculty to do so Qualified faculty means one or more persons with academic training comparable to the instructor of record who are presently on the faculty at that campus Each campus faculty senate has authority and responsibility for providing policy and procedures for the proper implementation of the foregoing principles Each campus president is responsible for ensuring that the policies and procedures developed by the faculty senate are in conformance with the principles and provisions of E O 1037 and for ensuring that such established policies and procedures are carried out Sacramento State has implemented procedures covering grade appeals with the provisions outlined in E O 1037 They can be accessed by clicking on the hyperlink below WHY THE POLICY IS NECESSARY Students are often not sure whether to appeal a grade the kinds of grades to be appealed and the processes and timelines for grade appeals With this policy students faculty and staff are provided with official guidelines under which to pursue resolution of grades in dispute consistent with Executive Order 1037 Section D of August 1 2009 entitled
