    Resources Fall 2015 Counselor Conferences CAMP Presentation CAMPs 30th Anniversary Videos Photos CAMP Migrant Student Leadership Institute Registrar Forms Contact Us FAQ Strategic Planning and Assessment Vice President For Student Affairs Office Eligibility ELGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Be a migrant or seasonal farmworker or a dependent of a migrant or seasonal farmworker To have worked in seasonal farmwork for at least 75 days in the last 2 year Be a legal resident of the U S or U S citizen TERMINOLOGY To be eligible to participate in CAMP you must be a migrant or seasonal farm worker or a dependent of a migrant or seasonal farm worker Migrant Farm worker a seasonal farm worker whose employment requires travel which kept the farm worker from returning to a permanent home within the same day Seasonal Farm worker a person who was employed for at least 75 days in farm work or a temporary or seasonal not year round basis ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS Students are expected to complete the comprehensive college preparatory courses and other requirements needed for admission to California State Universities Please check with your high school or counselor for the specific requirements Special admission If you did not complete all the college

    Student Leadership Institute Registrar Forms Contact Us FAQ Strategic Planning and Assessment Vice President For Student Affairs Office Message from the Director Since its inception in 1981 the College Assistance Migrant Program CAMP at California State University Sacramento has fostered a family like environment for students from migrant and seasonal farm worker backgrounds and an array of support services including pre college and first year assistance Most importantly CAMP has helped turn the dreams of hundreds of students into reality Hundreds of students from common humble beginnings are now enjoying continuing personal and professional success due to the opportunity that CAMP offers at Sacramento State CAMP has grown tremendously over the years and continues to provide migrant college students the same unique opportunities a family like environment and a place they can call their home away from home Today CAMP participants achieve a significantly higher rate of retention than Non Participants in spite of the fact that they have lower GPA s and SAT scores than Non Participants upon arrival to the university CAMP participants also have higher good standing continuation rates than Non CAMP students In addition at Sacramento State CAMP students benefit from participating in multiple equity programs

  • CAMP Scholars Program
    through training professional development and relationship building Purpose The CAMP Scholars Internship Program was created to progress migrant students personal and professional development The CAMP Scholars Internship Program combines leadership training with technical and practical experience throughout the academic year The Academic Component The program experience begins with a comprehensive orientation to clarify the expectations responsibilities and benefits of the program Speakers from various public sector agencies participate in the orientation providing the Scholars with advice and valuable information to succeed in the program Throughout the academic year the CAMP Scholars attend monthly training seminars The CAMP Scholars seminars focus on open discussion inquiry and discovery The seminars examine leadership and public policy within the context of a changing contemporary multicultural and multiethnic society The monthly meetings allow the students to expand their knowledge on a diversity of public policy topics explore future opportunities and develop leadership skills Topics include healthcare immigration climate change education and the economy Additionally excursions to expose students to the arts cultural historical and governmental sites also take place during the year to reinforce connections made with new ideas Office Placements CAMP Scholars are placed in offices throughout the Sacramento area to enhance their professional development and learn more about public policy and service Placements are determined by the needs of the office and on the Scholars skills and career interests In previous years CAMP Scholars have interned in the offices of California Senators and Assemblymembers chambers of commerce and at other non profit organizations and agencies Who are the Scholars The students selected to participate in the CAMP Scholars Internship Program are continuing CAMP students who have demonstrated a high level of motivation maturity and commitment to accomplish their academic goals They come from a migrant background and in most cases are the first in their families to attend college Many of the students have a history of community service and involvement in leadership and other extracurricular activities The program selects individuals from all academic disciplines who demonstrate leadership potential and an interest in public service Among the most popular majors are government business engineering computer science liberal studies economics and criminal justice The application cycle is during the last month of the spring semester to select students for participation in the following academic year Scholars are selected based on a review of their application a group interview and potentially a second follow up interview The Role of the Scholar The main purpose of the internship is to provide the students with the opportunity to acquire valuable leadership and employment skills in addition to general knowledge about the essential operation of the office or department Scholars are expected to intern 12 to 15 hours a week for an academic year The academic year runs from early September through mid December during the fall semester and from early February through mid May during the spring semester Scholars are not expected to work during scheduled recess time in the academic calendar The students fully understand the
