  • CSUS CREST Mission Statement
    broad based science consortium The Center will focus on critical elements and processes affecting the region s air water soil and biotic environments The Center will provide data collection interpretation storage and related services It will also provide for study design and the collection of scientific data critical to an understanding and assessment of natural system dynamics The Center will remain politically neutral though it will where appropriate examine the historical and future impacts of social choices on natural systems including plans and policies to modify or regulate those natural systems Through its activities the Center will provide opportunities for students to gain field research experiences familiarize themselves with the roles of science in social decision making and address fundamental issues in environmental research As appropriate the Center will offer CSUS facilities as non political arenas for discussions and debates The Center will also facilitate the development and presentation of educational experiences focusing on specific environmental challenges and issues leading to possible programs of certificiation in specific areas of scientific expertise The latter may be coordinated with the University s Regional Education Program The Center will seek to foster collaborative research relationships for short or long term studies as well
