available A variety of individual and group counseling opportunities exist that address personal social career and academic issues Disability management counseling may be scheduled through SSWD Students are encouraged to contact Psychological Counseling Services and other offices to seek counseling services as well How do students qualify for SSWD services Services are available to students with documented disabilities Documentation of disabilities must be provided by appropriate specialists See SSWD Application Process and Forms Documentation needs to be placed on file in the Office of Services to Students with Disabilities SSWD Students need to request and arrange for accommodations through the Office of SSWD What is the role of SSWD in the provision of academic accommodations SSWD verifies the existence of a disability functional limitations and authorizes reasonable academic accommodations and support services SSWD recommends all students discuss accommodation requests in the first two weeks of the semester however students are not required to do so SSWD is not the only one responsible for providing academic accommodations students faculty staff and the University all play a role Do I need to disclose my disability to my professors No The Certification of Test Course Accommodation letter is all they are entitled to You will need to speak with your professor to arrange the actual course test accommodations but you do not need to reveal the specific disability To receive an accommodation the student must request the reasonable accommodation in a timely manner How do the TRIO Student Support Services Program from the US Department of Education SSWD was awarded its latest four year TRIO grant for 2010 2015 TRIO Student Support Services SSS is an integral part and a critical program component of SSWD for the retention and graduation of students with disabilities SSS provides academic support services and instruction to program participants Currently enrolled students with disabilities certified by the SSWD office who have a need for academic support services in order to enhance their retention and graduation and who meet other TRIO SSS criteria may be referred to the program services Does SSWD have a program to assist students with writing and mathematics What other instruction is offered through SSWD The following courses instruction are available through the TRIO Student Support Services program to assist eligible students in writing and math Writing Instruction and LS 8 Math Instruction based on ELM score functional limitations and math preparation Additional limited instruction in Adaptive Computing Technology may be open to eligible SSWD students upon counselor referral and instructor permission through the SSWD High Tech Center Does SSWD provide tutors to assist students with disabilities Academic tutor service is considered a personal service and not a required auxiliary aid under Section 504 Many departments have tutoring services e g Writing Center etc see www csus edu saseep for partial listing and some instructors also arrange for group study sessions to supplement the classroom experience The student can utilize tutorial assistance offered through the academic department or available elsewhere on campus SSWD also provides limited paid tutors to work with eligible undergraduate students through the Student Support Services program Occasionally requests for tutors may go unfilled due to availability or scheduling conflicts Are taped recorded textbooks and other alternative media formats available SSWD has a list of readers who can provide taped textbooks for eligible print disabled students Students can also utilize Learning Ally formerly Recordings for

    from this database for interviews throughout the year for summer temporary or permanent positions Who is Eligible A candidate for the WRP must be registered with and or receive accommodations through the Services to Students with Disabilities Office have an intellectual disability severe physical disability or psychiatric disability which makes the applicant eligible to use the Schedule A hiring authority be a United States citizen be enrolled on a full time basis unless the severity of the disability precludes the student from taking a substantially full time load OR have graduated within the past year Students who graduated before October 2014 are not eligible for the WRP To be eligible to use the Schedule A hiring authority a candidate must be able to provide supporting documentation referred to as a Schedule A Letter see attachments below for more information regarding Schedule A eligibility and a sample letter A Schedule A Letter may be completed by a licensed medical professional licensed rehabilitation professional or any agency that provides disability benefits Although a candidate may not need to provide a Schedule A letter until later in the hiring process having it upfront and uploading it while applying online will improve the chances of being hired quickly INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING Please note that the registration application process is entirely online If you applied in the past you must re apply for the 2016 program If you are selected for a 30 minute interview with the federal recruiter you will receive an email instructing you to contact the SSWD Office to schedule this interview A candidate must register via the Registration link https wrp gov registerstudent by Friday October 16 2015 Registration must be approved by the campus coordinator before a candidate can complete his her online application A candidate may be contacted by

    needs that would impact their on campus housing in terms of access The request for housing accommodations is related to the functional limitations associated with a disability and the relationship of the accommodation to access Requests will be carefully considered on a case by case basis and reviewed based on the documented impact the availability of the requested housing arrangements and the respective needs of all applicants Requests that are not approved as essential for access will remain in consideration as a preference request in housing Documentation of disability will be reviewed by a committee of appropriate professional staff in SSWD who will consult with Housing staff regarding the requested accommodations Documentation submitted for housing accommodation requests will be retained in SSWD in secure files per FERPA regulations and CSU guidelines and only used to determine housing accommodations Procedure to request housing accommodations Complete the regular housing application and be sure to adhere to all housing deadlines and requirements For additional information visit the Housing and Residential Life website at www csus edu housing Complete and submit the Support Services Application to SSWD http www csus edu sswd ApplicationProcess Forms html Complete and submit the Request for Disability Accommodation in Housing form to SSWD by April 1 2016 for priority consideration Give the professional verification form to your treating health care provider for them to complete and submit to SSWD by April 1 2016 for priority consideration Accommodation requests will not be reviewed by SSWD until the student and qualified professional have both submitted all requested information to the SSWD office Students may contact SSWD with questions regarding the process to request housing accommodations Questions related to housing deadlines fees requirements for an application to be considered complete etc should be directed to Housing and Residential Life You will be
