    Give to the Department of Physical Therapy Priority The Department of Physical Therapy About Us Employment Frequently Asked Questions Forms and Campus Support Staff Directory Annual Giving Torchlight Fall 2014 Ranlett s high standards continue to inspire Katsiaryna Hoque is the inaugural recipient of the John G Ranlett Memorial Scholarship in Economics which alumnus Rod Swanson 63 Economics established to honor his former economics professor Economics professor John G Ranlett 50 Economics embraced his reputation as a tough teacher throughout his 45 years at Sacramento State So much so that he was known to put his nickname Dr Doom on his syllabus Despite his rigid exterior Ranlett s passion for economics rubbed off on countless pupils including Rod Swanson 63 Economics Swanson established a scholarship in Ranlettís honor along with a second scholarship of his own in the department If you were an economics major you had to take a class from Ranlett one way or another says Swanson There was no one else in the department who taught theory In economics there is a principle that says there is a substitute for everything but it would have been difficult to find a substitute for Ranlett Professor Ranlett expected his students to rise to the standards he set says Craig Gallet 86 Economics who took four classes from Ranlett and now teaches microeconomics at Sac State You had to work hard to do well in his classes and looking back on it I really appreciated that Katsiaryna Hoque received the inaugural John G Ranlett Memorial Scholarship in Economics during her junior year She is a double major in economics and math and plans on a career as an actuary I think the scholarship means more than just financial help says Hoque who moved to the U S from Belarus after

    Sciences Gerontology Government Liberal Studies Psychology Public Policy and Administration Social Science Sociology Women s Studies For Students Dean s Honors List Student Academic Achievement Awardees Other Student Awards Retention Statement Cooper Woodson College Career Center Registrar s Office For Faculty Staff ARTP Policy Faculty Staff Resources Access To Social Science Data Archives Webmail For Community Development Community Relations Sacramento State Annual Survey of the Region Employment Opportunities Academy of Distinction and Honor Renaissance Society 65th Street Corridor Collaborative Project SSIS Links SSIS News Commencement Centers Institutes The Policy Evaluation and Research Consortium PERC Scholarships Robert L Curry Robert Curry s heart has always been in Sacramento He grew up here and received his college education at his hometown institution Sacramento State College He earned the B A in 1959 and the M A in 1961 both in Economics and then completed the Ph D in Economics in 1968 at the University of Oregon That Robert Curry went on to distinguish himself in his field is indisputable That he did it by returning to his undergraduate and MA alma mater as a faculty member in the Department of Economics who for years gave his best to the students in the classroom is the primary reason that Robert L Curry s name is among those of the initial group of inductees into the SSIS Academy of Honor and Distinction Throughout his career Professor Curry has focused his attention upon international development especially as it pertains to Southeast Asia He has written extensively on the subject in such journals as Asian Thought and Society the Journal of Third World Studies the Journal of World Trade Law and the American Journal of Economics and Sociology He also has published books through the University of California Press Prentice Hall Duxbury Press and the U S Government Printing Office Professor Curry s career has taken him to teaching and research assignments in universities and institutes around the world among them George Washington University Hong Kong University Ho Chi Minh City University the University of Liverpool the East West Center National University of Singapore the Library of Congress the U S State Department and the United Nations He has been a Fulbright lecturer at Cuttington College of Liberia and Senior Fulbright Lecturer at the University of Zambia He has received numerous grants and awards from such organizations as the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities The above notwithstanding what has made Professor Curry one of the most respected of Sac State faculty members has been his willingness enthusiastically to share his excitement about research and his wealth of knowledge with his students For Professor Curry teaching has never taken second place His students in Economics will attest to this as will those who worked with him for years as he directed the program in International Affairs Many of those students have themselves gone on to distinguished careers Robert L Curry retired from CSUS in 1999 Since retiring Professor Curry has taught at

    Syllabi Spring 2013 Syllabi Spring 2014 Syllabi Spring 2015 Syllabi Center for Economic Education The Center for Economic Education at Sacramento State provides resources for economics teachers and educators in the Sacramento Region We offer a Certificate in Economic Education designed for elementary and secondary teachers Our website also contains links to interesting articles and examples that can be used in economics courses The center also sponsors the Student Leadership Summit for high school students Contact Tim Ford the Director of the Center for Economic Education for more information Requirements Certificate Economics Education The Economics Education Certificate Program is designed to give participants a solid foundation in economics that will enable them to teach the subject in primary and secondary schools The Certificate Program is intended for 1 future or practicing teachers who desire credential authorization to teach the one semester economics course required of all California public high school students and 2 future or practicing teachers who wish to infuse economics into other K 12 curricula Students majoring in Liberal Studies or Social Science or completing a teacher credential program are especially encouraged to participate The program consists of 15 units A grade of B or higher must be obtained in each of these courses Participants who are not enrolled in Sacramento State may take these courses through the College of Continuing Education For more information about the program contact the Director of the Center for Economic Education Associate Professor Tim Ford A Required Core Courses 9 units 3 ECON 1A Introduction to Macroeconomic Analysis 3 ECON 1B Introduction to Microeconomic Analysis 3 ECON 195 Economic Internship B Elective Course 6 units 6 Select any two upper division economics courses not including ECON 104 Note The ECON 195 requirement will enable the student to serve as a Teaching Assistant

  • PPA Commencement
