    the student has choosen English as his or her major and how the applicant hopes to use the English degree once he or she graduates two letters of recommendation from Sacramento State English professors official transcripts for all college coursework Return to Top Elizabeth Keith Olmstead John and Kathryn von Saltza Memorial Scholarship Professor Robert Olmstead and his wife have created this scholarship to honor the memory of Elizabeth Keith Olmstead and John and Kathryn von Saltza by providing support to students in their final year who are majoring in English Availability Applications for this scholarship are being accepted Spring 2015 Award Up to 1 000 per semester for up to two semesters Eligibility Applicants must meet the following criteria the semester the scholarship is awarded must have a minimum overall GPA of 3 5 and a minimum 3 5 GPA in all upper division level coursework The award winner must maintain a minimum 3 5 overall GPA to receive the award for the second semester must be undergraduate English majors with a minimum of 90 units completed toward graduation senior standing must be enrolled full time 12 units consideration shall be made for applicants who have been continuously enrolled at Sacramento State since their freshman year How to Apply Applicants must submit all of the following materials to Calaveras 103 by the department deadline English department Scholarship Applicant Information Form a statement of purpose of no more than 500 words two letters of recommendation from Sacramento State professors official transcripts for all college coursework a self addressed 8 by 11 envelope Return to Top Literary Insight Award The Literary Insight Award is designed to encourage students to explore literature in translation in the hope they might discover the extraordinary richness of literature written in another country and in another time It invites them to discover how despite historical and cultural differences such literature addresses enduring questions that remain a part of our contemporary human condition Availability Applications for this scholarship are being accepted Spring 2015 Award 350 for first place and 150 for honorable mention to be used toward tuition Eligibility Applicants must meet the following criteria the semester the scholarship is awarded must have a minimum GPA of 3 0 for undergraduates and 3 5 for graduate students must be junior or senior English majors or minors or must be enrolled in an English graduate program must be enrolled full time 12 units for undergraduates or 8 units for graduates How to Apply Applicants must submit all of the following materials to Calaveras 103 by the department deadline English department Scholarship Applicant Information Form Literary Insight Award application form A 1 200 1 500 word essay on one of the following novels Homer Iliad Classical Greece Cervantes Don Quixote Spain de Lafayette The Princess of Cleves France Goethe Faust Germany Stendhal The Red and the Black France Turgenev Fathers and Sons Russia Dostoevsky The Idiot or The Brothers Karamazov Russia Tolstoy Anna Karenina or The Death of Ivan

    12 00 hour up to 108 hours semester Minimum Eligibility Requirements for Student Employment The university sets minimum eligibility requirements for all student employees Only students who meet all of these requirements as well as any additonal requirements set by the department listed in the individual job descriptions on the student employment ad and GWAR Student Assistant flyer will be hired To ensure enrollment requirements are met applicants are advised to enroll during the early registration period Undergraduate Students Graduate Students Matriculation Enrolled in a Sac State degree program not including Open University Sac State employees are NOT eligible Enrollment Enrolled in 6 15 units Enrolled in 4 12 units OR Enrolled in a culminating experience course ENGL 500 500C or 598T OR Paid fees for continuous enrollment ENGL 599 GPA Minimum 2 5 GPA 2 25 for newly admitted students Minimum 3 0 GPA 2 75 for newly admitted students TA GA positions 2 5 for newly admitted students ISA positions Incomplete Grades Must satisfy any incomplete I grades two weeks prior to the beginning of the semester for which they are hired International Students International students must meet certain visa requirements to be eligible to work on campus How to Apply For all student positions except the GWAR Student Assistant position Complete an English Department Student Employment Application and required attachments described in Section III of the application form Applicants need only submit one department application regardless of the number of positions for which they are applying Complete an appropriate University application for each desired position for each ISA position complete a University Instructional Student Assistant Application for each GA and or TA position complete a University Graduate Assistant Teaching Associate Application Submit all completed forms and attachments to Calaveras 103 by the application deadline listed below Please
