    Students Athletics Make a Gift College of Arts Letters Toggle navigation About the College Vision Statement A Message From the Dean Centers Institutes and Galleries Departments The College Staff Directions College of Arts Letters Home Departments Student Resources Undergraduate Programs Graduate Programs Advising Tutoring Forms Commencement Clubs Organizations Health Center Computing Services Faculty Staff Resources E Mail Login Computing Services Forms Documents Policy Documents Announcements Governance Committees Employment For the Community Supporting the College Advisory Committee Calendar Visitor info Special Opportunities Sponsors Festival of the Arts The showpiece of Sac State s spring is the annual Festival of the Arts a celebration of all things arts running April 13 17 Last year s popular U Create street faire in downtown Sacramento will return filling selected art galleries and side streets with terrific artworks interactive experiences and plenty of music The free soiree will run 5 to 9 p m Thursday April 14 in the area of Seventh and S streets The Sac State campus once again will become a giant playground for children and adults alike with Sunday Funday a play day that offers attractions and events for the entire family from 11 a m to 3 p m April 17 Filmmaker writer and composer Trinh Minh Ha will screen her new film Forgetting Vietnam exploring the issues of trauma in relation to war and homeland It was made in commemoration of the 40 th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War The movie will be shown from 6 to 8 p m Saturday April 16 and will include a question and answer session Brian Crane creator of the popular comic strip Pickles will give a talk from 6 to 8 p m Friday April 15 in Mariposa 1000 followed by a reception in Mariposa 4000 The 2016 Dance

    students each year representing 28 of the University s total enrollment Faculty Accomplishments The prestigious 2014 15 Livingston Lecture Are Two Heads Better than One Collaboration and Coalition of Minds was presented by Mark Stoner a longtime professor of the Department of Communication Studies Professor Nigel Poor Department of Design was a recipient of the Community Journalism award from the Society of Professional Journalists for her work on The San Quentin Prison Report Radio Project a collaboration with incarcerated men at San Quentin State Prison Professor Poor also received a fellowship with Blade of Glass for her work with the community The College was the recipient of the Arts Business Council of Sacramento s Prelude Award for Art Business Partnership for collaboration with the Crocker Art Museum Professor Doug Rice Department of English was the 2014 15 recipient of Sacramento State s Outstanding Scholarly Achievement Award Professor Catherine Turrill chair of the Department of Art was selected as the recipient of the Yvonne Captain Faculty Award for Outstanding Contributions to International Education Phi Beta Delta the Honor Society for International Scholars awards the honor annually Governor Brown appointed Dr Bernice Bass de Martinez chair of the Department of Foreign Languages to the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians in May 2015 Grants Nikolaos Lazaridis Department of History was awarded a grant of 109 557 00 from the National Endowment for the Humanities NEH He managed a successful mission to North Kharga Oasis as part of the NEH funded project Travelers inscription from Kharga Oasis Egypt in December 2014 and January 2015 He presented the research paper Ancient travelers inscriptions from Kharga oasis a progress report to UC Berkeley s Ancient History Mediterranean Archaeology forum in February 2015 and published the article Crossing the Egyptian desert Epigraphic work at
