    Top LANGUAGE AND LITERACY The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology continues to be a leader in the diagnosis treatment and prevention of language based reading disorders In order to read and write children must first develop solid language abilities including a strong oral vocab ulary and grammar comprehension Reading and writ ing also depend on auditory processing and compre hension phonological awareness verbal expression letter sound correspondence and fluent decoding skills Speech and language therapy provides support for the development and growth of these skills pro moting children and adolescent s ability to access their academic curriculum Our clinic offers comprehensive language literacy evaluations conducted by student clinicians who in collaboration with Clinical Instructors determine ap propriate recommendations and provide individual and small group clinic based sessions to individuals with language based reading problems and developmental reading disabilities including dyslexia Go To Top Integrating interprofessional student learning community service and scholarly contributions NEURO SERVICE ALLiANCE NEURO SERVICE ALLiANCE NeuroSA is designed espe cially for adults with acquired neurogenic communication and or cognitive disorders Within NeuroSA a broad range of services are available including traditional therapy provided by supervised graduate clinicians and a vari ety of group based programs provided by trained and supervised undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology This newly developed program includes a variety of op portunities for persons with aphasia These aphasia friendly activities include conversation based groups Communication Recovery Groups Sacramento CRG SAC weekly Aphasia Book Club ABC meetings that are offered in English or Spanish and a weekly art class that blends creativity and communication Future growth within NeuroSA includes programs for persons and their signifi cant others who are living with dementia traumatic brain injury and Parkinson s disease Finally for those individu als who may benefit from using smart phones tablets and other devices a future program Creating Access with Tech nology will offer interested individuals with invaluable training and practice to support improved competence confidence and independence with technology In addition our on campus clinic provides exception al individual speech and language therapy for those individuals of all ages who are experiencing neurogenic cognitive communication deficits associated with stroke brain injury concussion progressive disorders and other neurological impairment Therapy sessions are designed to maximize the cognitive and or commu nication abilities of individual clients and utilize broad communication or cognitive strategies Our faculty provide expert knowledge and real world experience to guide and support student clinicians ensuring skillful therapy that is sensitive to the needs of each client The NeuroService Alliance programs with the exception of the Aphasia Choir Vocally Devoted have been placed on hold for the 2016 Spring semester due to a sudden medical condition involving a member of Dr Hagge s family The Alliance programs will resume for the Fall 2016 semester Currently the following is a list of available services for adults with acquired communication disorders 1 Participating in the Aphasia Choir Tuesdays 11 30 12 30 2 Receiving 1 1
